Campaign related Facebook Page used to communicate official Ridgewood business?

Ridgewood NJ, It has come to our attention that a current member of the Ridgewood Village Council is now making use of an election campaign related Facebook page to communicate with Village taxpayers.  If we recall correctly, in the State of NJ, there are strict rules in place for ensuring the openness and transparency of such actions (using social media for official communications).

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) certifies the first small modular nuclear reactor design

Ridgewood NJ, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has certified a design for an advanced small modular reactor (SMR). SMRs are cheaper and easier to build and site than traditional nuclear power plants. The certified design can generate up to 50 MW of electricity. There are plans to build a demonstration plant in Idaho with six modules collectively generating 462 MW. The NRC has only ever certified six other kinds of nuclear reactors.

Researchers use WiFi Routers to Produce 3D Images of Humans

Ridgewood NJ, researchers at Carnegie Mellon University were able to create full-body images of subjects using simple Wi-Fi routers. The technology could revolutionize healthcare, security, gaming, imaging, and many other industries. However, it could present many privacy issues as the technology can monitor people’s movements through walls without their knowledge or consent. The technique involves analyzing the amplitude and phase of Wi-Fi signals to find interference and then using AI algorithms to produce an image.

Sussex County Woman Arrested for Alleged Syrian Terrorist Support

Hopatcong NJ, a woman was sentenced today to 34 months in prison for concealing her attempts to provide material support to Syrian foreign terrorist organizations, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger, Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division, FBI-Newark Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy, and FBI Assistant Director for Counterterrorism Timothy Langan announced.

Ridgewood Crew Wins Gold at the 2023 Ironmen Erg Classic Regatta

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Crew team participated in the 10th Annual Ironmen Erg Classic hosted by Don Bosco Prep High School in Ramsey on January 21, 2023. The event attracted 22 clubs. Ridgewood Crew had 64 entries, second only to Montclair High School.

Ridgewood Water : Emergency Hydrant Repair

Ridgewood NJ, from the Ridgewood Water Facebook page on January 24th 2023  :Please be advised that an emergency hydrant repair this morning on Newcomb Road in Ridgewood required Ridgewood Water staff to flush a significant volume of water. The flushing caused a change in the typical directional flow of water, thereby producing discolored water in parts of the service area. Discolored water has been reported across Glen Rock and as far north as Steilen Avenue in Ridgewood.

Microsoft Announces New Multibillion-dollar Investment in Artificial intelligence

Ridgewood NJ, Microsoft announced yesterday it is expanding its partnership with OpenAI, the start-up behind the viral ChatGPT chatbot (see overview), with a multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment. Specific financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but reports say Microsoft is expected to invest $10B, in addition to the $3B it has already invested since 2019.

Ridgewood NJ, the renowned West Point Band, comprised of some of the finest musicians in the world, will present a concert titled “American Influences” at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood on Sunday, February 5 at 3:00 pm as part of the 47th season of the West Side Concert Series. West Point’s last concert at West Side took place on March 1, 2020 – just a week or so before the pandemic changed our world. So their return to West Side is particularly meaningful.

Honda Sedan Gets the Worst of a Rear End Collision Involving itself and a Dodge Ram Pickup in Fair Lawn

Fair Lawn NJ, a 4-door Honda sedan got the worst of a rear end collision involving itself and a Dodge Ram pickup truck in the 1000 block of Fair Lawn Avenue, Fair Lawn, on Monday afternoon, 01/23. Members of the Fair Lawn Rescue Squad cleaned up the mess left behind on the street, including vehicle parts and engine fluids. Minor injuries were reported in the incident; all refused hospital transportation. Fair Lawn Police handled the crash investigation and report.
