Columbus Day is an unusual American holiday. It doesn’t commemorate a President or a great American statesman. Christopher Columbus found North America, but he didn’t find, or found, the United States.

Ridgewood NJ, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in Ridgewood, hosts an “Open Center” every Wednesday night. Teenagers of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church parish get together for the youth group’s “Open Center”. Teens enjoy ping pong, pool, air hockey, foosball or just hang out and talk with each other. Then we gather together for Shared Prayer. All high school teens are welcome !

Glen Rock NJ, the Glen Rock Police reported two (2) vehicle late Saturday afternoon, 10/08, collision near the intersection of Harristown Road and Maple Avenue, in Glen Rock, propelled a 4-door Honda Accord sideways into the front of a nearby building occupied by a convenience store. The Accord’s driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by a Glen Rock BLS EMS ambulance to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported in the incident. A tow truck removed the wrecked Honda from the scene. Glen Rock Police responded to aid the victim and to investigate the crash, and a Glen Rock Fire Chief responded to evaluate damage to the building.

Ridgewood Nj, unlike last year’s Ridgewood Maroons thriller Defeat of Wayne Hills in Overtime 13-7, this year saw the Maroons take the early lead and never look back. Leading the whole game , scoring 14 in the first quarter and 21 in the second quarter giving the Maroons (5-1) their 5th win of the season and a much needed victory after a heartbreak loss to Paterson Eastside a week ago.

Ridgewood NJ, Scientists will soon see the results of an experimental HIV treatment that uses CRISPR technology. The treatment is a one-time infusion that takes an hour to administer. It targets regions in the HIV genome important for viral replication. A man with HIV received the treatment in July. He will soon stop taking his antiretroviral drugs to see if the treatment was a success.
