Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Art Institute has reinstituted in person classes for sometime now.  Some Artist Members painting from the Live Model in Rebecca Leer’s Wednesday and/or Thursday Morning Oil Painting Class. Creating Art produces endorphins which help to galvanize us in these challenging times. Thankful to be back in our beautiful North Light Studios!

Fair Lawn NJ on February 11, 2002 Columbia Bank hosted a ribbon-cutting  ceremony to commemorate the grand opening of its second branch in Newark, New Jersey. Deputy Mayor of  Newark Ligia DeFretias, Carmen Mosca Chief of Staff for Council President Luis A. Quintana, bank executives  and others, gathered to mark the occasion which was held on-site at 260 Chestnut Street in the Ironbound  section of the city.

Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra is back to In-person Rehearsing

Ridgewood NJ, as the pandemic wanes the RIDGEWOOD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is back to rehearsing in person—safely!—for its concert on Friday, May 6. The program will include masterpieces by Igor Stravinsky, American composer Richard Danielpour and Gustav Mahler. Acclaimed violist Brett Deubner will make a guest appearance for Danielpour’s “The Voyager,” and soprano Kristen Plumley, a longtime Ridgewood resident, will join the orchestra for Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. Fallen Power Line Engulfs Two Cars in Flames in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, City of Hackensack Fire Department 3rd platoon responded to several cars on fire on Arcadia Road due to a power line down. Fire Companies had to wait for the arrival of PSEG to secure power before extinguishing the cars on fire. No damage reported to any buildings. Time of incident 1:15 am on Thursday the 18th with no reported injuries.

Babysitter Steps Through the Floor of Ridgewood Home

Ridgewood NJ, an adult female babysitter and her young charge were injured when the sitter’s leg fell through a floorboard at a single family home in the 400 block of Prospect Street, Ridgewood early Friday afternoon, 02/18. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS personnel and vehicles rushed to aid the two (2) victims. Arriving fire department personnel observed evidence of an active construction site with no permits visible. A Village of Ridgewood building inspector was summoned as a result of the Fire Department’s observation.

Paramus NJ, yesterday for Bergen New Bridge Medical Center celebrated the opening of the hospital’s newly renovated ambulatory surgery center with a small ribbon cutting ceremony. Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco said ,” This is yet another example of the impressive and ongoing transformation the County’s public hospital, which continues to garner national acclaim. The facility has evolved not only into a tremendous hub of healthcare, but a shining community asset and I am excited for what the future of the facility holds!”

Ridgewood NJ, Startup wants to drill 12 miles into earth’s crust to tap the boundless energy . Quaise Energy , a startup that spun out of MIT in 2018, recently secured $40 million in funding for their deep-drilling energy project. The startup plans to drill holes as deep as 12 miles into the Earth’s crust where it reaches temperatures of over 700 degrees Fahrenheit. It plans to use the holes to convert water into supercritical steam to drive turbines and produce electricity. If successful, the technique could be used anywhere in the world to produce nearly 100 percent renewable energy at terawatt levels.

Uber to Let You Know if You Suck As Customer

Ridgewood NJ, Uber users will soon be able to see how drivers view them as a customer . Uber is allowing its customers to see what ratings they have received from drivers. Customers will be able to see their ratings in the app’s new privacy menu. Uber uses the rating system to police its users. A low rating can result in both drivers and riders being kicked off the platform. Uber released a list of cities with the highest and lowest ratings. New York City came in first for the lowest average rider rating among large US cities.
