Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey voters overwhelmingly supported legalizing marijuana on the November ballot. But many municipalities in the state are banning dispensaries, pot farms and manufacturing, and taking a “not in my back yard” approach to legalized marijuana sales.
Montvale NJ, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced that the payroll manager for a Bergen County construction company pleaded guilty today to demanding cash kickbacks from employees and failing to pay them for numerous hours of work to circumvent prevailing wage rules on public works projects. The company, UniMak, LLC, of Saddle Brook, N.J., entered into a non-prosecution agreement with the Attorney General’s Office last month under which it agreed to pay $1 million to seven employees who were cheated out of earned wages.
North Haledon NJ, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced that an unregistered investment adviser has been charged with stealing $644,000 from 24 investors he recruited to invest in an unregulated commodities trading group he founded called Think Big Institute, LLC (“Think Big”).
Fort Lee NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of JEBARA IGBARA, aka “JAY MAZINI” (DOB: 05/27/1985; married; unemployed) of 100 Alexander Way, Edgewater, New Jersey; ISHIMEER ALLEN (DOB: 11/11/1998; single; unemployed) of 61-69 Park Avenue, Paterson, New Jersey; ALAZIZ DALMIDA (DOB: 11/08/1999; single; unemployed) of 859 South 14th Street, Newark, New Jersey; and RAMI ALJIBAWI (DOB: 11/09/1983; married; sales associate) of 14-16 Graham Place, Clifton, New Jersey on charges related to a kidnapping and assault in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Fort Lee Police Department under the direction of Chief Matthew J. Hintze.
Leonia NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of SAMANTHA KRAKOWER (DOB: 04/21/1997; single; teacher) of 246 East Central Boulevard, Palisades Park, New Jersey on charges of Sexual Assault, Criminal Sexual Contact and Endangering The Welfare Of A Child. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, and the Leonia Police Department under the direction of Chief Scott Tamagny.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police units and Ridgewood Fire Department personnel were dispatched to assist the driver of a refrigerated box truck that became entangled in a communications cable serving a multi-use building located at 305 East Ridgewood Avenue on Friday morning, 04/23. No injuries were reported in the mishap and damage to the building and cable was very minor.
Washington DC, Following a thorough safety review, including two meetings of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have determined that the recommended pause regarding the use of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 Vaccine in the U.S. should be lifted and use of the vaccine should resume.
Tokyo Japan, SBI Holdings and the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) have partnered together to build the Osaka Digital Exchange (ODE), a blockchain-based stock exchange to compete against the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The exchange will allow investors to trade digital securities using blockchain technology. SBI and SMFG will set up the ODE in March. The exchange will start trading digital securities in 2023.
Ridgewood NJ, Russian hacking group REvil is targeting Apple in a $50 million ransomware attack. The group stole engineering and manufacturing schematics from Quanta, a company that manufactures products for Apple. It has already begun posting the stolen data. REvil is hoping that Apple will pay the ransom by May 1. Quanta refused to pay the ransom, saying that the hack did not impact the company’s business operations. The result being a massive data leak implying its a legitimate threat .

Newark NJ, The New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit coordinated a 3-day mobile deployment initiative that led to the arrest last week of 20 fugitives in Essex County, including individuals wanted for violent crimes. Of the 20 people arrested, 12 were identified as street gang members.
Wyckoff NJ, a Bergen County, New Jersey, man was arrested today on charges of engaging in mortgage fraud, fraudulently obtaining an SBA loan, and stealing another person’s identity information, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced.

While the advertised budget (see link below) has the correct figures for the 2021-2022 County Approved Budget, the Special Education figures were transposed on the slideshow which was presented on Monday, April 19, 2021. The slides have been corrected and will be presented at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
Ridgewood NJ, Valley Health System has received a supply of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and have opened up the ability to make appointments for those ages 18 and older. The Moderna vaccine is not approved for administration to those under age 18; 16 and 17-year-olds CAN NOT receive the Moderna vaccine.
