American Legion Post 53 Community Drive to raise funds for Gold Star Families Monument in Memorial Park at Van Neste Park in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, American Legion Post 53 is beginning a Community Contribution Drive to raise funds for the placement of a Gold Star Families monument in Memorial Park at Van Neste Park. This will be only the second monument for Gold Star Families in New Jersey. It is the goal of the Legionnaires to raise funds from the Village and beyond so the monument become a Community Project.
The Legion deeply appreciate your support and your assistance reaching out to friends, neighbors and families for this monument that expresses the loss and grief of Gold Star Families.

Pearl River NY, Orange and Rockland Utilities today advised its customers that New York State has adopted a new consumer protection law designed to help shield NYS consumers from potential gift card scams.
The new law requires all businesses selling gift cards to display a notice at or near where any gift cards or gift certificates are displayed or sold to alert consumers about gift card fraud.
Requesting gift cards as payment has become increasingly popular with thieves as funds are nearly impossible to trace. According to the Federal Trade Commission in 2022, nearly 65,000 consumers filed a complaint related to gift card scams, equating to a total loss of $228.3 million.

Elderly Couple Found Shot to Death in Hackensack Nursing Home

Hackensack NJ, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department are investigating an apparent shooting that occurred in Hackensack on Saturday, July 15, 2023. At approximately 8:51 a.m., the Hackensack Police Department responded to a 911 call from a nursing facility. Responding officers found a deceased 73-year-old female victim and a deceased 76-year-old male victim with apparent gunshot wounds.

Lightning Strike Starts Single-Family Home Fire in Paramus

The fire was quickly knocked down without any serious injuries.

Franklin Lakes Council Postpones Vote to Rezone Cigna Property for Mixed Use

Franklin Lakes NJ, the borough postponed a vote to rezone the Cigna property for mixed use until August 15th . The vote was scheduled for action at the Borough Council’s July 6 meeting, but it was postponed that night until at least its July 18 session. Tuesday’s notice on the borough’s “Latest Buzz” website newsletter changed the vote date to Aug. 15.

The West Glen Avenue Sidewalk Installation Safety Initiative Back in Play in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, with one failed initiative after another , the Village of Ridgewood Council puts pedestrian safety back on the front burner . Thanks to Councilwoman Lorraine Reynolds who championed the transfer of $500,000 designated for repairs to the village’s historic Zabriskie-Schedler house toward an estimated $1 million sidewalk project , known as the West Glen Avenue sidewalk installation safety initiative at the budget meeting in May, Reynolds argued that the historic home repairs would be stalled by lawsuits and the money should be put to more immediate use on “safety projects.”
