Reader asks Where is the traffic study for the impact on the three immediate train line crossings?

1) How does making it one-way help when there are instances of vehicles getting stuck both going up as well as going down (James – you should start posting the photo of the tractor trailer that got stuck going down).

2) That bus in the photo was already in violation of the posted vehicle restrictions for that road. Who is to say they will not violate a new restriction?

3) Where is the traffic study for the impact on the three immediate train line crossings in the vicinity of this crossing – Glen St and Franklin Tpke in Ridgewood and Wyckoff Ave in Waldwick? How about the traffic impact study on Linwood Ave, intersection of Linwood and N. Maple, and intersection of N. Monroe and Wyckoff Ave?

  2. Also the Ackerman Ave. underpass.

    Frankly, that road should be completely reconfigured or closed. It’s a horror show, especially in slippery conditions.

    HOWEVER, restrict “large vehicles” – buses Trucks, vehicles with trailers.

  4. You can’t have it both ways.

    It is dangerous for cars and large vehicles. The residents on Hillcrest and the other street are capable of driving down Glen Ave to the train. Lazy is not a good reason.

    The shortcut should be pedestrian only.

  6. Close the road. Let the commuters walk up/down the hill. Great workout. Solving two problems at once!

    Those who can’t handle the walk can drive to their choice of local train station.

    I drive down this road almost every day in all types of weather and encounter all manner of vehicles mid-road (and the vehicles that I drive are not particularly small) and I have NEVER had any problem traversing the road.
    The speeds traveled are equivalent to a brisk walk, people pay attention and there are no issues.

    My experience indicates that any drivers who are uncomfortable driving on this road do not use it.

    Leave it alone – ban large trucks, busses, trailers.

  9. Agree with 12:22. It’s already illegal for trucks to use this road – what’s needed is police enforcement. This road has been around, and in use for more than 150 years. People need to learn how to drive. When you go up a hill with a curve, you’re not supposed to slow down, you SLIGHTLY accelerate to maintain speed. When you go down the hill you stay in your lane – not the middle of the road.

    Anyone who had tried to turn left from Hillcrest/Upper Blvd onto Glen at rush hour, and also driven up/down Glenwood knows fully well which one is more ‘dangerous.’

    Folks who find driving on Glenwood to be dangerous need to have their licenses immediately revoked – they have no business driving on any road anywhere.

    The whole argument is absurd. A few trucks/buses have not followed posted signs, so let us post some new signs.

  11. This entire debate is silly. I agree with previous posts that this Road has been in use for several decades with minimal issues. Traffic on this road is mostly local, and the hill is obviously used by those who are comfortable with it. Folks who get nervous about traversing lanes of normal width ought not to — and as a matter of practice don’t — use the hill. As far as I can tell, the “safety” issues all arise out a few anomalies where drivers of large trucks/buses have managed to get up/down the road without noticing the traffic signs. As with many other roads in the village, this is simply a matter of poor — or entirely missing — signage. Simply install PROPER and VISIBLE signs (“LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY”, “NO BUSES”, “NO TRUCKS”) and this will be quickly resolved. Turning the road into a one-way street is intellectually lazy and doesn’t address any of the true underlying concerns.

  12. Close it. Close it. Close it. Or don’t and when someone is badly injured or worse, I’ll say I told you so. One way or two way, it won’t matter. The same stupidity is going to keep happening over and over again.
