Justice Department: Harry Reid pressured Obama administration to help Bob Menendez ally

by Melissa Quinn | Aug 31, 2017, 3:04 PM

The Justice Department alleged this week that Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., pushed his colleagues and the Obama administration to change federal policy in order to help a man that authorities charge lavished him with gifts.

In a brief filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the department said Menendez asked then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to pressure the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to reverse a decision that hurt Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen. Melgen is thought to have plied Menendez with lavish vacations, and authorities are trying to show those gifts influenced Menendez’s actions in the corruption case they are bringing against him.

Just which American Citizens will be the targeted ones to pay the reparations?

RE: Pro Cop Killer Joanne Chesimard Group Pays a Visit to Ridgewood

I am curious, Just which American Citizens will be the targeted ones to pay the reparations? Everone? Including them? Just those in the Southern States who did the enslavement? Just the ones the POP decides are the enslavers?  As a family member of emancipated Afro-Americans in Ridgewood pre-Civil War and a grand-father of Afro-American grandchildren, and vocal advocate in the face of the sitting governing bodies in New Jersey to save the Zabriskie Tenant House which was razed to the ground effectively erasing the history of our part of American that fought to preserve the dignity and equal status of our brothers and sisters from Africa. I am just wondering who is it they are singling out? Dear POP seen you coming for 60 years and Martin Luther King, Macolm X, and ALL the Black Panthers got my back….who got yours?

Sincerely, Peter Zabriskie

PSE&G says paving and Village street restoration is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018

August 10,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, for months now there have been constant complaints about Village streets and their poor surface conditions . Long term readers of the this blog will remember that for several years there seems to be almost constant complaints about the roads. Unfortunately for the Village as long as PSE&G continues in their gas line up grade program ,there is really no end in sight for poor road conditions .

Beginning in June, work was expected to take place Monday through Saturday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting. The gas main replacement portion of the work is expected to be completed by the fall. The paving and street restoration is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018.  Folks it is what it is !

According to PSE&G :

• To upgrade the gas lines, PSE&G digs trenches, primarily in road surfaces, and lays new pipes block by block to minimize disruptions. There will be short-term road closures and detours during construction. Local police direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic. At the end of each workday, the trenches are filled in and protective plates secured on any open areas so people can safely drive and walk. Customers always have access to their driveways.

• When possible, the utility does not dig on properties. If PSE&G does have to dig on a customer’s property, the utility restores any disturbance after the service line is installed. Grass areas are repaired and seeded, and concrete or asphalt openings are patched until final restoration work is scheduled.

• After construction, a PSE&G technician needs to access the customer’s home to connect the service line and gas meter to the new gas main. The utility contacts homeowners to arrange a date and time to do the work. During this reconnection, customers can expect to be without gas service for about 4 hours.

• If a gas meter is inside, PSE&G relocates it to the outside of the customer’s home or business. A technician relights all appliances and makes sure they are working safely before leaving a home.

• When work is finished, the utility repairs roads with temporary pavement until the ground settles. This takes about 45 to 90 days. PSE&G then restores the roads with permanent paving in accordance with town ordinance and paving requirements.

Americans Are Dying Younger, Saving Corporations Billions

Obamacare-SC

Life expectancy gains have stalled. The grim silver lining? Lower pension costs
By
John Tozzi
August 8, 2017, 4:00 AM EDT

Steady improvements in American life expectancy have stalled, and more Americans are dying at younger ages. But for companies straining under the burden of their pension obligations, the distressing trend could have a grim upside: If people don’t end up living as long as they were projected to just a few years ago, their employers ultimately won’t have to pay them as much in pension and other lifelong retirement benefits.

In 2015, the American death rate—the age-adjusted share of Americans dying—rose slightly for the first time since 1999. And over the last two years, at least 12 large companies, from Verizon to General Motors, have said recent slips in mortality improvement have led them to reduce their estimates for how much they could owe retirees by upward of a combined $9.7 billion, according to a Bloomberg analysis of company filings. “Revised assumptions indicating a shortened longevity,” for instance, led Lockheed Martin to adjust its estimated retirement obligations downward by a total of about $1.6 billion for 2015 and 2016, it said in its most recent annual report.

Mortality trends are only a small piece of the calculation companies make when estimating what they’ll owe retirees, and indeed, other factors actually led Lockheed’s pension obligations to rise last year. Variables such as asset returns, salary levels, and health care costs can cause big swings in what companies expect to pay retirees. The fact that people are dying slightly younger won’t cure corporate America’s pension woes—but the fact that companies are taking it into account shows just how serious the shift in America’s mortality trends is.

Christie Administration Launches Online Portal to Report Abuse or Diversion of Prescription Opioid Fueling Addiction Crisis

Prescription-Drugs
Atlantic County Pharmacist Credited with Tip Leading to Arrest of Essex County Doc Accused of Prescribing Pain Pills to South Jersey Drug Ring
August 3,2017
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,  Expanding Governor Chris Christie’s efforts to stem the flow of pain pills and other prescription drugs fueling New Jersey’s opioid crisis, Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino and the Division of Consumer Affairs today announced a new web-based portal that will allow pharmacists, medical practitioners, and members of the public to easily report suspected abuse or diversion of controlled substances.

The Suspicious Activity Report (“SAR”) portal, a new feature of the NJ Prescription Monitoring Program (NJPMP), permits individuals to report suspicious activities such as the overprescribing of controlled substances, “doctor shopping” to stockpile drugs, or the circulation of forged or stolen prescriptions.

The SAR portal can be accessed on the Division’s website. Information contained in filed reports will be reviewed for possible administrative and criminal enforcement action.

“As the deadly scourge of addiction continues to claim lives in our state, we’re making it easier than ever for New Jerseyans to fight back,” said Attorney General Porrino. “By taking a few minutes to submit a Suspicious Activity Report online, you could be preventing a fresh supply of habit-forming drugs from hitting the streets and destroying lives.”

It was a tip from an Atlantic County pharmacist that led to last week’s arrest of Essex County internist Dr. Craig Gialanella and 16 alleged drug dealers accused of running an illegal pill ring that distributed tens of thousands of high-dose opioid pain pills.

Gialanella was charged with second-degree distribution of narcotics for allegedly writing the prescriptions that supplied dealers with large quantities of oxycodone and alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax, for sale on the street. Upon his arrest, Gialanella, signed a Consent Order with the State Board of Medical Examiners agreeing to the temporary suspension of his medical license and his registration to prescribe Controlled Dangerous Substances (“CDS”) in the state, pending further action by the Board.

“The sharp eyes and quick actions of this Atlantic County pharmacist helped bring down a drug ring allegedly being supplied by a doctor abusing his prescribing privileges,” said Steve Lee, Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs. “We’re hoping the new Suspicious Activity Report portal will encourage more individuals to play an active role in preventing deadly drugs from falling into the hands of addicts or dealers.”

The Division began investigating Gialanella in October 2016, when the Atlantic County pharmacist, who has not been identified, reported that numerous local residents were obtaining large quantities of opioids from Gialanella, a Belleville internist whose office is 100 miles away.

The pharmacist noted that Gialanella’s “patients” frequently presented prescriptions for oxycodone that were issued in the same name with a different date of birth, in an apparent attempt to avoid detection by the NJPMP and to avoid limits on permitted quantities of such narcotics.

A subsequent review of the NJPMP revealed that Gialanella had issued and/or authorized to be issued 6,600 CDS prescriptions in large quantities – for a total of 734,000 dosage units – since the beginning of 2015. His patients had filled prescriptions at 500 pharmacies throughout the state, including Atlantic County, according to the Consent Order.

The Division of Consumer Affairs referred the case to the state Division of Criminal Justice which launched a criminal investigation that led to the arrest of Gialanella and the 16 alleged street dealers he was allegedly supplying.

According to the criminal charges, Gialanella charged purported patients $50 to $100 for an “office visit,” which typically lasted just a few minutes and did not involve any type of exam, testing or treatment. Gialanella would write prescriptions for 90 or 180 tablets of oxycodone 30 milligram, and 90 tablets of alprazolam 2 milligram, according to the criminal charges. It is alleged that Gialanella would write from two to as many as five prescriptions for each drug for a single patient every 30 days, frequently leaving the date of birth blank.

The alleged dealers sold the 30 milligram oxycodone tablets, known as “Blues,” for between $18 and $25 per pill. They allegedly sold the alprazolam pills, known as “Zannies,” for $5 each, according to the criminal charges.

The criminal investigation is ongoing, and it is suspected that Dr. Gialanella may have been illegally prescribing oxycodone to individuals in other counties.

The new SAR portal is the latest enhancement to the NJPMP, a centralized data sharing system for healthcare providers and pharmacists in partner states to track prescription sales of narcotic painkillers, and other drugs that often lead to deadly heroin addictions.

Last month, the Division expanded the NJPMP’s capabilities to allow users to review two years’ worth of prescription records, instead of just one. In addition, the system now automatically converts all opioid medicines to a standard “morphine milligram equivalent” dose to help avoid over-prescribing or patient overdose.

Established in 2011, the NJPMP now contains nearly 74 million prescriptions written or filled in New Jersey. Each record in the database contains the names and addresses of the patient, doctor, and pharmacy; drug dispensing date; type, days’ supply, and quantity of medication; and method of payment.

Practitioners are required to check the NJPMP the first time they prescribe a Schedule II CDS to a new or current patient for acute or chronic pain, and on a quarterly basis (every three months) during the period of time a current patient continues to receive a prescription for a Schedule II CDS for acute or chronic pain.

Pharmacies that dispense Schedule II-V CDS and Human Growth Hormone (HGH) in New Jersey, or into New Jersey, are required to submit data on all transactions for such drugs to the NJPMP on a daily basis.

Twelve states – Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina, and Minnesota – share data with the NJPMP.

The NJPMP is also a valuable tool for law enforcement and regulatory investigations into the unlawful diversion of prescription narcotics. The database has been used to identify and successfully prosecute healthcare professionals associated with “pill mills” that dispense narcotics without a legitimate medical purpose.

For more information visit the Division’s NJPMP website at www.NJConsumerAffairs.gov/pmp.

For information on New Jersey’s new opioid prescribing regulations, or to find guidance on safer pain medication prescribing practices, visit the Division’s Prescribing for Pain website at www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/prescribing-for-pain.
Patients who believe that a licensed health care professional is prescribing CDS inappropriately can file an online complaint with the State Division of Consumer Affairs by visiting its website or by calling 1-800-242-5846 (toll free within New Jersey) or 973-504- 6200.

Judicial Watch Warns California to Clean Voter Registration Lists or Face Federal Lawsuit

old paramus reformed church
Data Show LA, San Diego, San Francisco Have More Registered Voters than Eligible Adult Citizens – LA Voting Rolls Have 144% of the Total Number of Eligible Residents
August 5,2017
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced it sent a notice-of-violation letter to the state of California and 11 of its counties threatening to sue in federal court if it does not clean its voter registration lists as mandated by the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). Both the NVRA and the federal Help America Vote Act require states to take reasonable steps to maintain accurate voting rolls. The August 1 letter was sent on behalf of several Judicial Watch California supporters and the Election Integrity Project California, Inc.

In the letter, Judicial Watch noted that public records obtained on the Election Assistance Commission’s 2016 Election Administration Voting Survey and through verbal accounts from various county agencies show 11 California counties have more registered voters than voting-age citizens: Imperial (102%), Lassen (102%), Los Angeles (112%), Monterey (104%), San Diego (138%), San Francisco (114%), San Mateo (111%), Santa Cruz (109%), Solano (111%), Stanislaus (102%), and Yolo (110%).

In the letter, Judicial Watch noted that Los Angeles County officials “informed us that the total number of registered voters now stands at a number that is a whopping 144% of the total number of resident citizens of voting age.”

Under Section 8 of the NVRA, states are required to make a reasonable effort to remove the names of ineligible voters from official lists due to “the death of the registrant” or “a change in the residence of the registrant,” and requires states to ensure noncitizens are not registered to vote.

There is “strong circumstantial evidence that California municipalities are not conducting reasonable voter registration list maintenance as mandated under the NVRA,” Judicial Watch wrote in the notice letter sent to California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

Judicial Watch referred California officials to a settlement agreement it reached with the State of Ohio in which Ohio agreed to update and maintain its voter registration lists and to keep a current voter registration list online and available for public access.

“California’s voting rolls are an absolute mess that undermines the very idea of clean elections,” JudicialWatch President Tom Fitton said. “It is urgent that California take reasonable steps to clean up its rolls. We will sue if state officials fail to act.”

In April, Judicial Watch sent notice-of-violation letters threatening to sue 11 states having counties in which the number of registered voters exceeds the number of voting-age citizens.  The states are: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and Tennessee.

On July 18, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against Montgomery County and the Maryland State Boards of Elections under the NVRA. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, Baltimore Division (Judicial Watch vs. Linda H. Lamone, et al. (No. 1:17-cv-02006)).

Election Integrity Project California, Inc. is a registered non-profit corporation that seeks to preserve a government of, by, and for the people. To that end, Election Integrity Project California empowers citizen volunteers through education and training to protect the integrity of the electoral process in California.

The director of Judicial Watch’s Election Integrity Project is senior attorney Robert Popper, who was formerly deputy chief of the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department.

TRENTON — Motorists whose licenses, learner’s permits, registrations or inspections expired on Friday, before the state was thrown into a three-day government shutdown, will get a two-day reprieve.

The Motor Vehicle Commission said it will give drivers until Thursday to get their documents updated.

Motor Vehicle Commission offices typically open for business Saturday and Monday were closed as part of the government shutdown that also shuttered state-run beaches, parks and courts after lawmakers failed to agree on a fiscal year budget by the July 1 deadline.
