Trenton NJ, The Department of the Treasury reported that June revenue collections for the major taxes totaled $2.92 billion, down $503 million, or 14.7 percent below last June. The June decline eclipsed last month’s decline of 13.5 percent over the previous May, indicating that the economic impact of the global pandemic shows little signs of abating. Fiscal year-to-date, total collections of $29.784 billion are now down $3.0 billion, or 9.2 percent below the same period last year.

The Randolph Tennis Center held what organizers called the “Reopen Businesses and Restore Livelihoods Rally.” Dozens gathered to hear speakers ask Gov. Phil Murphy to lift restrictions on businesses in order to help owners provide for their families during the pandemic. Under Governor Murphy’s prosecuting the knucklehead executive orders , Gurbir Grewal, the state Attorney General offered some some guidance.

Ridgewood NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 165, which lifts 50 percent capacity limits on NJ TRANSIT and private-carrier buses, trains, light rail vehicles and Access Link vehicles, and now requires that NJ TRANSIT and private-carriers limit vehicles to the maximum seated capacity, effective at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

Ridgewood NJ, The NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors today approved the purchase of eight additional ALP-45A dual-powered locomotives manufactured by Bombardier Transit Corporation for a cost of approximately $70.5 million. The new locomotives will allow NJ TRANSIT Rail Operations to retire some locomotives in the fleet to increase mechanical reliability, improve on-time performance, provide operational flexibility and promote a more sustainable planet for the future.

Franklin Lakes NJ, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the following actions taken in its ongoing response effort to the COVID-19 pandemic. A Letter to Clinical Laboratory Staff and Health Care Providers alerting them of an increased risk of a false positive result with BD SARS-CoV-2 Reagents for the BD Max System test.
In one study, the manufacturer found approximately three percent (3%) of results were false positive results. The FDA is working with Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) to resolve this issue and will continue to keep clinical laboratory staff, health care providers, manufacturers, and the public informed for new or additional information.

There is no doubt that New Jersey will require additional resources during this COVID-19 crisis. To address this, we need a comprehensive fiscal strategy that includes all tools at our disposal. Absent that, any plan for borrowing now is premature.
