Ridgewood NJ, The Village of Ridgewoood Department of Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce that the Graydon Pool will open for the season on Monday, June 29th at 10:00 am following COVID-19 protocol and newly designed policy and procedures.

All must wear masks upon admittance to the facility; read and sign a COVID 19 release waiver, and continue to practice social distancing measures while on the premises.

NJ Business Coalition Urges Safe Reopening of All Businesses Currently Closed

The New Jersey Business Coalition, a group of more than 100 leading business and nonprofit groups throughout the state, issued the following statement calling for the safe reopening of all New Jersey businesses that currently remain closed.

“The New Jersey Business Coalition is pleased to see movement toward the reopening of New Jersey’s casinos on July 2. The casinos are a significant economic driver of New Jersey’s economy and our tourism industry.”

CDC: The risk of getting COVID-19 from food or food packaging is very low

Ridgewood NJ, Coronaviruses, like the one that causes COVID-19, are thought to spread mostly person-to-person through respiratory droplets when someone coughs, sneezes, or talks. It is possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object, including food or food packaging, that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. However, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. Currently, there is no evidence to suggest that handling food or consuming food is associated with COVID-19.

After shopping, handling food packages, or before preparing or eating food, it is important to always wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Remember, it is always important to follow good food safety practices to reduce the risk of illness from common foodborne pathogens.

“There’s a very old, but wise, proverb “If the upper beams are not straight, the lower beams will go aslant.” Indeed, if society’s leaders set a poor example, the rest of society will follow. There is a clear absence of leadership on all fronts, these days. Ridgewood NJ, Governor Murphy continues to promote the idea he is making decisions on reopening the state of New Jersey based on “science”  ?  According to “Murphy’s Science” School graduations are dangerous yet mass protests are not ?  Maybe the real problem is just that , the focus on government sanctioned protests and not education. Worse yet Murphy joined the protests with the intent of protesting himself ? I mean he is the governor  after all .

N.J. Voters will Now Get to Correct Signature issues on Vote by Mail Ballots in the Primary Election

Ridgewood NJ, residents whose votes are tentatively rejected due to inconsistent or missing signatures in the upcoming July 7 primary will get the opportunity to fix their ballots after an agreement was reached Tuesday in a federal lawsuit.

In Ridgewood over 700 ballots were rejected in connection with the May 12, 2020 Board of Education, Board of Education Budget, and Village Council General Election. They were rejected for many reasons including mismatched signatures .

You Can Finally Visit Loved Ones at Nursing Homes in New Jersey

Paramus NJ, Statewide, almost 12,000 people have died, and long-term care patients may account for as many as 6,000.  While the Murphy Administration was cracking down on golfers and joggers , they were sending COVID-19 positive patients into nursing homes .

Finally residents of long-term care facilities will be able to have outdoor visits with loved ones in designated outdoor space starting Sunday, June 21—Father’s Day– under a directive to long-term care facilities issued today by the state Department of Health.

Ridgewood NJ, According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s website, National Kids Count, approximately 35 percent of children under 18 live in a single-parent home as of 2016. As many as 25-percent of children in the U.S. live in households with a mother alone. That is over 18 million children who do not live with a father figure. Additionally, father-only households were noted at just 8 percent.

Most research focuses on two major causes for the growth in fatherlessness since the early 1960’s: divorce and out-of-wedlock births.

How Corrective Bariatric Surgery Could Save Millions of Lives

The history of bariatric surgery is fascinating. It originated from the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery that was meant to cure stomach ulcers. The surgery involved cutting out most of the stomach, leaving out a small part that would then be joined with the small intestine. Dr. Edward Mason conducted the operation on an overweight lady in 1966, and this resulted in her losing weight. It was from this one case that bariatric surgery was born. The good doctor continued offering his services to other overweight people, but the wave of the weight loss surgery did not catch on until later in the 90s. At this time, doctors discovered that the procedure could be carried out laparoscopically, which meant that the surgery was safer. Today, it is possible to carry out this type of surgery, and if it does not work, corrective surgery can be done to improve what was initially done. In this article, we discuss how this type of surgery can save lives today.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire extinguished a passenger vehicle fire in the parking lot of an auto body shop located at 264 South Broad Street, Ridgewood on Friday afternoon, 06/19. No injuries were reported in the conflagration. The vehicle, a 4-door Buick sedan, was totaled. No tow truck was necessary due to the charred remains’ location.

Today Marks Juneteenth

Ridgewood NJ, Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.  Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.
