The Ramapo Munsee Land Alliance (RMLA), the Ramapo Munsee Lunaape Nation, and The Land Conservancy of New Jersey are happy to announce a long-awaited, historic transfer of the Tahetaweew—commonly known as Split Rock Mountain—back to the Ramapo people. This landmark moment returns stewardship of sacred land to the nation for the first time since 1737, before the American Revolution.

Mahwah NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of AMEL MERSALI (DOB: 7/18/1990; single; unemployed) of 2102 Hawthorne Lane, Mahwah, NJ. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Mahwah Police Department under the direction of Chief Stephen Jaffe.

Victim of Motorcycle Accident Airlifted to Hospital in Mahwah

Mahwah NJ, on the morning of March 21st  Mahwah EMS was dispatched to a motorcycle accident in which the victim was flown via helicopter to the hospital. These calls are always hectic and require many agencies to work together smoothly to ensure the best outcome for the patient. Also on scene were Mahwah Police , Mahwah Fire Department  ,Valley Health System Paramedics and Hackensack Meridian Health AirMed One for amazing teamwork.

Bergen County Celebrates the Completion of the Modernization of the Law and Public Safety Institute in Mahwah

Mahwah NJ, on Tuesday, Bergen County celebrated the completion of a major modernization project at the Law and Public Safety Institute’s in Mahwah which now solidifies our academy as one of the best in the entire nation. At the dedication ceremony, the Department of Law and Public Safety unveiled the training facility street as “Larry Rauch Boulevard,” named after former Law and Public Safety Institute Safety Coordinator Larry Rauch who served in that role for over 18 years and dedicated much of his life to the fire service.

Mahwah NJ, the Mahwah Republican Club is holding a fundraiser on March 3rd at the Mahwah Elks Club at 630pm to raise money for our annual student scholarships. Over the last two years, we have awarded four winners. We hope to raise enough money this year for three scholarships. The scholarships are based on written essays and are judged on thought formation, organization, and proper grammatical structure. In addition to raising funds for the scholarship, the event will be used to promote leadership amongst our local students. All Mahwah student residents attending their senior year in high school are eligible. Please join us for a good cause and a fun night out.

A soft rollout in progress with a dozen emergency calls answered . Bergen County Emergency Medical Services is now on the road assisting our EMS partners and municipalities answering emergencies throughout Bergen County!  Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and Commissioners cut the ribbon today to make this service go live.

February 2 was Joyce Kilmer Day in Mahwah!

Mahwah NJ, of the many artists and writers who lived in Cragemere, poet Joyce Kilmer may be the most famous. Kilmer was born December 6, 1886, in New Brunswick, NJ. He moved to Cragmere in 1912, while working as a special reporter for the New York Times Magazine. A fellow commuter would recall that Kilmer was never dressed for work on time and was busy putting himself together on the school bus that dropped them off at the train station.

New Housing Plan Spells an End to the Mahwah Sheraton on Route 17

Mahwah NJ, the township of Mahwah has approved a redevelopment plan that reduces its largest affordable housing site surrounding the Mahwah Sheraton on Route 17. The original plan to build an 800-unit multi-housing project with 120 affordable units has been scrapped in favor of one that calls for two warehouses and 74 affordable units on the site of the hotel, which faces demolition. Without these revised agreements, Mahwah taxpayers would most likely have to pay Veolia for additional water capacity, move towards paid fire department and ambulance services, and increase the number of our police officers in the Mahwah force.
