Trenton NJ, NJ Sierra Club, Environment New Jersey, NJ Clean Cities Coalition, Charge EVC, the Trenton YMCA and Isles hosted an educational lunch and learn on electric school buses. The educational luncheon provided the opportunity for districts and townships in New Jersey to learn how they can take advantage of state and federal funding from the IRA and IIJA through NJ’s Electric School Bus Program and the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program. The event provided information on key grant deadlines, as grants and rebates from these life-saving programs would directly allow local communities in New Jersey to get zero-emission school buses on our streets and in our neighborhoods.

Ridgewood NJ, George Washington Middle School alumni and current Ridgewood High School student Aarav Motivala visited students in the GW Economics Club to share his experience with financing, investing, and economics. Aarav created Edunomix, a non-profit that provides free economics lessons to youth worldwide. Aarav credits Mr. Watkins’ 7th grade Social Studies class for inspiring him to pursue his interest in economics and game-based learning. One of the main components of Edunomix is game-based activities where students learn financial literacy.

Ridgewood NJ, during Monday night’s BOE meeting, a resident alleged that BOE president Michael Lembo unlawfully formed a new BOE committee (the “personnel” committee). State law prohibits formation of committees without prior BOE approval. No such approval was obtained by Mr. Lembo, said the speaker.

Trenton NJ, to tackle the ongoing teacher shortage crisis, the New Jersey Education Association is actively advocating for the elimination of a basic skills test for teachers. In a statement released on Wednesday, the union outlined its goal to lower entry requirements for aspiring teachers, stating that such a move would help address the state’s urgent shortage of educators. The NJEA is encouraging supporters to express their endorsement of Bill S1553 by writing letters to Gov. Phil Murphy.
Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood DECA 5K Dash was a running success! DECA Members were joined by the community on Saturday, November 4th at 9AM for a run around the Ridgewood Wild Duck Pond and beyond. Funds raised from the run are used to finance the chapter’s competitions, making it more affordable to allow all students to participate. 10% of the funds raised go toward charities that increase access to education.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood’s remarkable season concluded in the Group 4 State Final against Freehold Township, finishing with an impressive 17-2-2 record and securing a third consecutive sectional title championship. Despite this success, they faced a 3-0 defeat in the Group State Finals, marking only their second loss of the season and the third in the past two years, with two defeats against the Patriots. Coach Kay emphasized that the loss doesn’t hurt more than losing to any other team. The 2023 season showcased Ridgewood’s continued dominance in the Big North Conference since the COVID-affected 2020 year. The Maroons have consistently triumphed in the sectional finals since 2021 and made consecutive appearances in the state final. Wait till next year !
