New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission Extends Deadlines and Streamlines Processes

Lodi NJ, Governor Murphy today signed legislation (A4486) which authorizes the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to use stored driver’s license or identification card photos for longer than eight years and limits certain appointment times at MVC locations to senior citizens and persons with certain medical conditions during COVID-19 pandemic.  The Governor also signed A4520, which temporarily extends deadlines to register vehicles and obtain driver’s licenses for new State residents during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Women Leaps or Falls From Warren Avenue Bridge in Ho-Ho-Kus

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, Ho-Ho-Kus Police, Ho-Ho-Kus EMS, and Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department personnel rushed to aid an adult female who either fell or jumped off of the Warren Avenue Bridge into the shallow Ho-Ho-Kus Brook late Tuesday afternoon, 09/08. A “low angle rescue” procedure was implemented by firefighters from Ho-Ho-Kus Fire to extract the victim from the water and transport her up a steep embankment. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital assisted Ho-Ho-Kus’ emergency responders. The victim was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Center’s main campus. She was alert and conscious at the time transport began.

Multi Alarm Fire Rips Through Waldwick Home Monday Evening

Waldwick NJ, No injuries were reported in conjunction with a multiple alarm Monday night, 09/07, house fire on Vine Street in Waldwick. However, the single family home was mostly gutted despite the efforts of Waldwick Fire Department and numerous mutual aid fire companies. The fire was reported via a 911 telephone call. Waldwick Police was first to arrive at the scene and reported a “fully involved house fire.”

Bergen Attorney Charged with Fraudulently Obtaining $9 Million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans

Cliffside Park NJ,  A Bergen County, attorney was arrested today and charged with fraudulently obtaining approximately $9 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito and Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian C. Rabbitt of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, announced.

Jae H. Choi, 48, of Cliffside Park, New Jersey, is charged by complaint with three counts of bank fraud and one count of money laundering. He is expected to make his initial appearance by videoconference today before U.S. Magistrate Judge James B. Clark III.

Minivan Slides off Rain-covered Route 17 Temporarily Shutting Down Southbound Traffic in Ho-Ho-Kus

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, Ho-Ho-Kus Police responded to a Wednesday morning, 09/02 crash in which a minivan slid off of rain-covered Route 17 southbound near Hollywood Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus into an adjacent wooded area. The vehicle’s adult male driver was uninjured in the mishap. A flatbed tow truck winched out of its predicament and towed it away. The on ramp from Hollywood Avenue to Route 17 southbound was closed while police and tow truck operators worked at the location.

The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Lodi Police Department under the direction of Chief Donald Scorzetti.

Long Lines Persist, NJMVC Is Still Broken

Lodi NJ, Senator Anthony M. Bucco said the continued long lines at MVC facilities in Randolph and across New Jersey make it clear that the Murphy administration needs to implement real solutions to better serve drivers.

“Despite Governor Murphy’s insistence that everything’s under control again at the MVC, nothing could be further from the truth,” said Bucco (R-25). “Six weeks after agencies reopened for business, people are still lining up in the middle of the night for a chance to get through the door. Drivers shouldn’t have to arrive at the MVC before dawn to guarantee they’ll be successful in obtaining their license, registration, or title.”

Greenwood Lake NJ, Fish and Wildlife’s Conservation Police Officers from the Central Region recently focused their patrol efforts on illegal ORV use in Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area.

On Saturday, July 25, two ATV riders attempted to flee from the officers. Once they were apprehended, the riders received summonses for criminal obstruction, interference with the duties of a Conservation Police Officer, and Wildlife Management Area use violations. The two ATVs were impounded.

NJ State Police and the Englewood Cliffs Police Department seek the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint in Englewood Cliffs

Englewood Cliffs NJ, The New Jersey State Police and the Englewood Cliffs Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect wanted for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint on Bayview Avenue in Englewood Cliffs.
On Sunday, August 2, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a male suspect pointed a silver handgun at the victim, forcibly removed a watch from his wrist, and fled the scene on foot with another suspect in the direction of Sylvan Avenue.
The suspect who brandished the gun is described as a dark-skinned Hispanic male in his late 20’s to early 30’s, wearing a purple shirt, light blue jeans, and gray and white sneakers.
A detective with the New Jersey State Police Forensic Imaging Unit created a composite sketch of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Englewood Cliffs Police Department Detective Bureau at 201-569-8088.
