Ridgewood NJ, 04/03/2016: Ridgewood firefighters were kept busy throughout the day by two (2) incidents of fallen trees that became entangled in high voltage power lines. The incidents, located within a few blocks of one another, required responses from the Village’s police, Emergency Services, and Shade Tree Division personnel as well.

Saturday, April 9th from 9am to 12:30pm, rain or shine, at Ridgewood Recycling Center , behind the Fire House, 201 E. Glen Avenue – unwanted documents and papers will be safely recycled for free. You can watch on camera as documents are securley shredded. There is a limit of five (5) file size boxes per vehicle.
Place items in a paper bag or cardboard box only. No plastic bags. FREE to all Ridgewood residents and Ridgewood businesses.
This is an opportunity to to safely dispose of cancelled checks, computer printouts, envelopes, letterhead, etc.

Ridgewood NJ, Valley is a business first and foremost. They do not pay taxes, do minimal charity work and pay their execs millions.
As any time they can be acquired/sold to a large hospital system, making the execs even more money.
This expansion is an attempt to polish their brand, nice hospital in upscale setting. Who wouldn’t want to go there for elective surgery? They compete against hospitals in Bergen, Pasaic, Rockland, Westchester and Dutchess counties. The judge sais that he was looking out for the needs of the region not just the neighbors.
While the “common good” is often sighted as the reason for the Valley Expansion ,but in 2012 The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood did all they could to block HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley from opening .
It’s important for young East Side parents to understand how important this is. Your kids are little but this project will still be going on when they are in middle school. Think about that for a minute. Valley does NOT care about you our your kids. Their lawsuit against the Village claims that Ridgewood “acted capriciously” but putting the needs of Valley’s immediate neighbors (including Travell School and BF Middle School) above the needs of the region. Said a different way, any detriment to Valley’s immediate neighbors will be outweighed by their self proclaimed benefits to the broader region.
Valley is not your friend.
Ridgewood NJ, The men caved and the women behaved like troopers. The men all voted YES for less than gallant reasons: Fear of further litigation and possible results that might be worse than the ” so called compromise.”
The women believed that Ridgewood was worth that risk and felt that the detrimental effects of the Valley Expansion far out weighed any benefits.
The public comments were unbelievable including little kids who spoke eloquently.
Our Board of Education members were missing and should have been there and should have advocated for Benjamin Franklin Middle school . Their primary concern should be the health and safety of the children. I don’t know why they would concede to Valley without a good argument for a better compromise. We elected them to represent us.
Again I don’t know who is looking out for Ridgeood except Susan, Wendy and Debbie, The “Steel Magnolias” of the Planning Board.
Good lord will you people ever give up?
It’s a done deal. No matter how much you whine about what’s transpired it finished…
Everyone knew that once this thing was presented to a neutral third party for review ( A judge who is a she rather than a he) it was going to go in favor of the hospital. And rightfully so. It’s not all about YOU. It’s about building a hospital that is sorely needed for the GREATER GOOD of all the residents in the surrounding towns. You should have bought your home in Ho Ho Kus or Saddle River, not on top of A VERY LARGE MULTI YEAR EXISTING HOSPITAL.
This is exactly what I’m talking about…complete nonsense and blather. You are a classic example of whats wrong with your minority. Sorry to leave you behind, were moving forward and making progress for the greater good. PS your property value just dropped 20 %. Good luck with that.
Because that’s where Valley is and has been since 1952. What difference does it make moving the well established campus 1/2 west on Linwood Avenue? Mahwah? Why the hell would we want it up there??? Listen, Just because you bought a home in the lap of the hospital and now your in a tizzy because the inevitable that was bound to happen is now happening just doesn’t cut. The hospital was a part of this community long before you got here. It belongs in Ridgewood and here it will stay…For many many years to come.

TRENTON — Lawmakers took action on a package of bills that would impose tougher state regulations on tiered health plans Monday, sparked by a backlash against Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey’s new OMNIA products that steer cost-conscious patients to select hospitals.
The Assembly Regulatory Oversight Committee approved four bills that would require more disclosure on how hospitals and doctors are chosen to join tiered networks. State regulators would have to insure hospitals that serve low-income people are included in these networks, which offer consumers the choice of paying less if they use hospitals and doctors in the preferred tier.
When Horizon last fall debuted the two-tiered OMNIA plans and the cost-cutting arrangement it had struck with 36 “tier 1” hospitals, it instantly generated outrage among the hospitals relegated to “tier 2” status. Patients could still use them but would pay higher co-pays and have to meet higher deductibles to do so.

The Ridgewood Concert Band (RCB), A New Jersey Wind Symphony, continues its 33rd season with a concert featuring a wide variety of music. Guest soloist Scott Hartman (trombone instructor at Yale University’s School of Music) will perform Gregory Fritze’s “Trombonico”. Also joining the RCB will be Robert Sherman, who will act as guest narrator on Vincent Persichetti’s “A Lincoln Address”. The program will also include Joseph Schwanter’s “Luminosity” and this concert’s featured “classic”: Richard Wagner’s “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral”.

Dear Resident,
I am writing to inform you of a Municipal Information Forum that we will be hosting for Ridgewood residents regarding Ridgewood Water.
The intent of this forum is to educate the public on how water is delivered to your faucet. We will deal with current issues in the news as well as discussing the quality of our water, sustaining water for the future, budget and capital investments and our short-term and long-term strategies.
Our decision to hold this forum emanated from several sources. One clearly is the amount of interest that residents have expressed in learning more about Ridgewood Water; this has definitely been heightened by stories in the news. Secondly, we have held two sessions such as these at both our 2016 budget reviews as well as at a Glen Rock Council meeting. These were two-way dialogues that were well received and I believe went a long way in a better mutual understanding of how the water we consume is delivered to our homes.
We are planning on conducting this forum on two separate dates. The first is Thursday April 21st from 9-11 AM. The other is Monday April 25th from 7:30-9:30PM.

Ridgewood NJ, The meeting got off to a poor start as the PB chairman announced to the crowd they would be going into closed session before public comment! Thankfully the people waited to be heard and they were back out in about 50 minutes.The speakers were great. Their statements were diverse, intelligent and heartfelt. It is hard to imagine what the counter argument could be though we know there is one.
There were about 30 speakers at the PB meeting. It was good to see that we are not just a small vocal group. They are allowing more public comments tomorrow. Please come to the next PB meeting and let them know what you think. It’s at 7:30 in the Town Hall
The Valley mediation proceedings resulted in a win for Valley and nothing for Ridgewood except how they will mitigate the damages.
The Valley expansion is too big for the 15 acres it sits on and too big for the neighborhood even if there wasn’t a school adjacent to it.
Ridgewood needs our planning board and council to look out for the village and it’s residents.
Valley will continue to thrive and grow. They have purchased numerous properties for off site facilities and can certainly modernize the Ridgewood location and not destroy the Master Plan in doing so.

Ridgewood NJ, The Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey, in collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Health, today announced the winners for the fourth annual Protect Me With 3+ adolescent immunization awareness poster and video contest. Both the winners and finalists in each category were honored at an awards ceremony and banquet held at the Conference Center at the Robert Wood Johnson Fitness and Wellness Center in Hamilton on April 3, 2016. The top three winners in the poster and video categories received prizes and the opportunity for their submissions to be distributed during statewide immunization awareness activities. The teachers whose classes submitted the most eligible entries in each category also received awards.
In its fourth year, the Protect Me With 3+ contest increases awareness about the importance of four adolescent immunizations: tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap), human papillomavirus (HPV), meningococcal conjugate, and influenza (flu).
“The Protect Me With 3+ contest is an important opportunity to spread awareness about adolescent vaccines in a fun and creative way,” said Ilise Zimmerman, Executive Director of the Partnership. “We are so happy to have received a record number of entries into the contest and can’t wait to see what students and teachers come up with next year!”
“This year’s winners made some very creative and informative posters and videos that we are excited to use at statewide health events,” said Dr. Tina Tan, State Epidemiologist and Assistant Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health.
New Jersey students in grades 5-8 were eligible to submit posters while students in grades 9-12 were eligible to submit either posters or videos. The public voted for their favorite entries from February 29 through March 13, 2016.

Ridgewood Nj, a reader says ,”The (Elks)club membership is dealing with over zealous state reps ( in very fancy tuxedos mind you) who have been gunning for the lodge for years. It’s not business, it’s personnel. The membership has retained councel who will defend their interests. This includes the building that does NOT belong to ANYONE other than the clubs membership via a holding corporation to protect it from situations just like this. So forget your theory’s , forget about the library and forget about ANYONE getting anything that belongs to the lodge.”

Ridgewood Nj, Only the terms of the mediated settlement between Valley Hospital and the Planning Board is known at this moment and Ms. Hauck had nothing to do with that negotiation. It was PB Chairman Nalbantian and Vice Chairman Joel.
Ms Hauck and Ms. Knudsen are the two VC members negotiating Valley Hospital’s suit against the Village Council. We understand that a court date is set for early May. At that time we will know more about that case.
In the meantime, CRR has not stopped their efforts and are encouraging people to show up to Monday’s PB meeting. They are also working on educating a whole new group of younger parents that are less familiar with this issue. If you would like to help, contact [email protected] or[email protected]
