George Washington Middle School Goes All Remote Learning

Ridgewood NJ, Due to two recent separate positive COVID-19 cases of unknown origin, George Washington Middle School will transition to all remote learning tomorrow, Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Inperson instruction will resume on Monday, November 30, 2020. Please make sure that George Washington Middle School students do not participate in out of school activities during this time of remote learning.

The Search of a New Ridgewood Superintendent of Schools is On

Ridgewood NJ, at Monday nights Ridgewood Board of Education meeting Ridgewood Board of Education President Mike Lembo provided a brief update on the superintendent search being conducted by R-Pat Solutions, LLC. The posting is currently available online, and it is printed in newspapers on Sundays. Mr. Lembo was told there are a large number of applicants including some from out-of-state. A survey to collect input from stakeholders is currently being formulated, and it will be going out to the community. Based on R-PAT’s timeline, the Board is anticipating that candidates will be narrowed down in January.

De La Cruz ordered Village Clerk Heather Mailander to add the One Village One Vote group’s petition to November’s ballot when the petition clearly didn’t include the number of registered voter signatures required by law (NJSA 19:60-1.1)?

Ridgewood Schools Sues Electrical Contractors Over Faulty “Smart Plugs”

Ridgewood NJ, In July 2018, after a fire occurred in a classroom at the district’s Willard Elementary School. A subsequent inspection of a “smart plug” installations identified other similar devices at Willard and Orchard Elementary School that exhibited heat damage leading the district  to promptly remove the devices  in August 2018.

Ridgewood Schools Reopening Plan: Transition to Phase 2

Ridgewood NJ, Stacie Poelstra Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum opened her presentation on Ridgewood school districts transitioning to phase 2  by sharing COVID-19 activity level data for New Jersey, which currently has the entire state at the moderate level. The district continues to closely monitor health data as it informs our reopening plan and its various phases. Recently, the district surveyed staff, parents, and students to collect feedback on the reopening and input regarding considerations for the next phase. Additionally, our Pandemic Response Teams are meeting consistently to review our plans and progress. Department, faculty, and administrative team meetings also continue to evaluate the reopening, and Dr. Fishbein meets regularly with the Health Officer, Dr. Yankus, and other physicians.

Search for a New Ridgewood Superintendent of Schools Moving Forward

Ridgewood NJ,  the search for a permanent Ridgewood Superintendent is underway , Board of Education Member Mr. Lembo shared that Ms.Ojetta Townes, District Manager of Human Resources at Ridgewood Public Schools has provided the Board with a list of search firms. The Board discussed the next steps to secure proposals from the search firms and to arrange presentations.  The position of Interim Superintendent was posted last week, and the posting will close on October 16, 2020.

Ridgewood voters have an opportunity to reaffirm their right to vote and pass judgement on the massive $115 million Ridgewood school budget. Residents are told over and over the Village of Ridgewood is a place people come to for the schools . The Ridgewood school system  enjoys an excellent reputation, and is known for its “Tradition of Excellence” .Ridgewood voters have enjoyed the right to pass judgement and confirm spending and management decisions by the Board of Education.
