Ridgewood NJ, I am extremely disappointed that the Ridgewood Board of Education (BOE) has still not made provisions for taxpayers without computers to make comments during their virtual public meetings. As of today, the only way a taxpayer can make a public comment during a virtual BOE meeting is to submit it in writing via a hyperlink posted on the BOE’s website (the hyperlink is also embedded in the electronically circulated meeting notice).

Reopening America requires all of us to move forward together by practicing social distancing and other daily habits to reduce our risk of exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19. Reopening the country also strongly relies on public health strategies, including increased testing of people for the virus, social distancing, isolation, and keeping track of how someone infected might have infected other people. This plan is part of the larger United States Government plan external iconand focuses on cleaning and disinfecting public spaces, workplaces, businesses, schools, and can also be applied to your home.

Mr. Mahmood has ignored or sidestepped questions from the residents—- which is opposite his claims of transparency. He needs to answer the questions with substantiation, because this role is too important.

School budget supports the district’s mission and vision
This year’s election faces many challenges due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, which has resulted in the closure of schools, businesses, and public spaces across the country. On Thursday, March 19, Gov. Murphy announced that Annual School Elections scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, will be postponed until Tuesday, May 12, and will be conducted solely via vote-by-mail ballots, which will be sent to all registered voters.
These unprecedented yet necessary measures to flatten the curve and lessen the burden on our health care system have already had a significant impact on our daily lives. Parents are juggling work schedules and remote learning for their children. Grocery stores are scrambling to restock items as quickly as possible, but shelves continue to be emptied. Our beautiful, vibrant downtown is still and quiet; our businesses are being hit hard. People are feeling isolated and disconnected. As the district leader and a community member, I empathize with the students who miss their classmates, teachers, and school activities, the elderly who are alone, the individuals who are being laid off, and the health care workers who are on the front line of this crisis.
Ridgewood NJ, at Mondays Ridgewood Board of Education meeting, Ms. Poelstra provided an update on the Home Instruction Plan. Information about the plans for K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 are posted on the homepage of the district website for easy access. These Google sites contain valuable resources for students and parents to help them through the process. For K-5, the Google site has sections by grade level where parents can access the daily lessons. Initially, daily lessons were posted in the morning, but after receiving feedback from parents, the district began to post them the evening before, which gives working parents time to review and prepare for the next day of home instruction. Teachers are online every day from 8:00-12:30 to answer questions. The middle school and high school websites are designed specifically for the students to give them easy access to information about the schedule, attendance, resources, technology issues, and more. Additionally, our Technology Innovation Specialists are evaluating tools that be used for face-to-face instruction, particularly with the elementary students.
