Ridgewood NJ, thanks to our pedestrian safety activist Frank Geraghty for pointing out my suggestion to have dangerous sign removed from near center of sidewalk to curb located on Broad street near East Ridgewood avenue. The sign was removed today and a base for new sign placed just where he suggested at Kiosk, probably saving some weekend reveler from getting a dislocated shoulder.
Also, just around the corner on East Ridgewood avenue a blank sign that I also complained about which confused motorists was also removed today and replaced by a plastic cone. Hopefully a badly needed YIELD SIGN that I called for will be placed at that spot soon.
Ridgewood NJ, according to pedestrian safety activist Frank Geraghty , “Most towns in Bergen county have less neglected traffic problems than the Village of Ridgewood which I have observed and written about many times. Recently while out walking on East Ridgewood avenue as I turned into Broad street I stopped abruptly as I saw a newly erected misplaced traffic sign which stuck out like a sore thumb on the sidewalk outside of Patchi Alotchi. The sign which was located five and a half feet from curb near middle of sidewalk had a sign informing motorist of a nearby KIOSK which was at the curb where the new sign should have been placed. A local worker who saw me photographing and measuring the sidewalk told me about an incident he witnessed recently when one child chasing after his big brother smashed into this badly placed sign near middle of sidewalk. The village worker who just recently installed this sign at the center of a newly sprayed circle near the middle of the sidewalk was just following recent orders from someone in the village who spray painted the white circle which is clearly seen at bottom of sign in photo. A few minutes later as I was leaving I walked around the corner to E Ridgewood avenue and photographed a similar but very discreetly placed sign next to kiosk which was close to curb located outside ENVY store.
Ridgewood NJ, a motorist who returned to his vehicle and found a parking summons affixed to it tracked down the responsible Ridgewood Parking Enforcement Agent (PEO) on Friday afternoon, 08/18, and dumped a full glass of soda through the open driver’s side window of the agent’s official vehicle. The incident occurred on Chestnut Street in Ridgewood, near East Ridgewood Avenue. A Ridgewood Police Patrol Officer and Patrol Supervisor responded quickly to assist the Ridgewood Parking Enforcement Agent , but the perpetrator had fled prior to their arrival. A copy of the summons issued will be used to identify & charge the suspect. The Ridgewood Parking Enforcement Agent was uninjured. Clearly someone acted before thinking about the consequences.
In our increasingly urbanized and interconnected world, pedestrian safety has become a paramount concern. The bustling streets that once epitomized progress and modernity now serve as a backdrop for an unfortunate reality: pedestrian accidents. The interplay of various factors contributes to this alarming phenomenon, and a deeper examination of these causes unveils a tapestry of challenges that must be addressed comprehensively to ensure the safety of those on foot.

Ridgewood NJ, so this weekend was the first weekend since the pedestrian mall was discontinued and the central business district was jumping . The village seemed to have its old swagger back . Customers seemed to be able to find parking spaces , the annual sidewalk sale seemed to draw them in in big numbers . Takeout , pickup and drop off flourished. The weather moderated and many local merchants made their numbers for the first time in a while.
