Jersey Mike’s Subs Partners with Food Banks to Help Texas Residents Impacted by Hurricane

Jersey Mikes Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, More than 1,300 Jersey Mike’s Subs locations across the country including Ridgewood are partnering with the Houston Food Bank and Corpus Christi Food Bank to help Texas residents impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

This two-part program provides needed donations to the two local food banks:

From Monday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 17, participating Jersey Mike’s locations will donate $1 for every regular sized #7 Turkey Breast and Provolone sub sold.
Through a grassroots program in September, Jersey Mike’s will hand out special cards in local communities nationwide offering a free sub for a $2 donation to the food banks. Cards can be redeemed in participating restaurants from Friday, Sept. 15, through Friday, Dec. 1.

“We want to let people know about the fundraiser so they can come together and join us in this national effort to help all those affected by the devastation in the Greater Houston and Corpus Christi areas,” said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO, Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems. “We are grateful to our local owners, managers, and crews who dropped everything to make sub sandwiches for thousands of people in need as well as for fire departments, EMS and other first responders.”

John Enterline, Houston area director, Jersey Mike’s, who is heading up local efforts, said, “Our focus at the local level is on feeding as many people as possible who are in need and in shelters, as well as providing sustenance to first responders so they can continue their life saving work. We appreciate the support from our customers across the country as well as from the Jersey Mike’s system as we start to rebuild as a community.”

All franchisees and team members are safe, and all locations are now open, according to Enterline.

Jersey Mike’s is a fixture in Texas neighborhoods, with 16 locations in the Houston area and two in Corpus Christi. The company expects to raise at least half a million dollars for the food banks.

“There are a lot of people down here in Texas who have lost homes and livelihoods,” said Dalton Stewart, a Jersey Mike’s area director in Dallas, who brought down a team to help colleagues make subs in Houston. “It doesn’t surprise me that the Jersey Mike’s family would step up in these difficult times to make a difference.”

Stewart added that Jersey Mike’s locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are feeding evacuees at local shelters as well as at the Red Cross Command Center there.

Judge rules no conflict for ex-Ridgewood councilman

A Superior Court judge in Bergen County ruled Tuesday that a former Ridgewood councilman was not in conflict when he voted to rezone areas of downtown for multifamily homes, a council move that caught the ire of some residents who decried the push toward higher densities in their sleepy bedroom community.

Following four major amendments to the village’s master plan in 2015 that nearly tripled the allowable density in certain municipal zones, a group calling itself Ridgewood Citizens for Reasonable Development sued the Village Council, looking to block the ordinances that codified those amendments.

The group alleged that then-Mayor Paul Aronsohn and Councilman Albert Pucciarelli had discussed and approved the ordinances despite two separate conflicts of interest.

Ridgewood NJ, There are two events coming up in the Village. These events are designed to help us create a more connected and vibrant community. Numerous organizations are collaborating on this effort. The Village of Ridgewood has given their endorsement as has the Chamber of Commerce and The Ridgewood Guild.

The first event is a forum which will be held at the Ridgewood Public Library the evening of September 26. It is titled, Moving Forward Together: Fostering a Pedestrian Friendly Community. There are several panelists who will speak about the benefits of experiencing our village on foot. When we encourage residents to walk whenever possible we strengthen our bond as a community, we add to our personal health and well-being and we create a safer environment for pedestrians.

The second event is a village-wide, month-long walking initiative that will take place during October titled Walktoberfest. Guided walks are being scheduled to entice residents to learn more about our village and its businesses. There will be historic, architectural, food, fashion, beauty, parks, interfaith and municipal building tours available.

Ridgewood may skirt bid process on new garage

Hudson Street lot

Nicholas Katzban, Staff Writer, @NicholasKatzban Published 10:37 a.m. ET Aug. 28, 2017

Two years ago, the Village of Ridgewood proposed to ease its parking crunch by building a garage in the Central Business District.

As the chosen site for the project still lays in disrepair, and the council aims to designate the area “in need of redevelopment,” some locals and officials are beginning to question how a seemingly straightforward objective has grown so long in the tooth.

Seeking to streamline the process, the council unanimously approved a resolution on Aug. 9 to hire the village planner, Brigette Bogart, to determine whether the Hudson lot meets the criteria for an area in need of redevelopment.

That option was presented to council members by Village Attorney Matthew Rogers during a workshop meeting the prior week. Rogers explained the designation would allow the village to negotiate directly with a chosen contractor, rather than work through a public bidding process, to “save some time, save some money” and “be able to approach this in a faster and more efficient manner.”

Fish Urban Dining – Liquor License Transferred (so the “closing for kitchen renovations was indeed a lie?)

FISH

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood News edition of Friday, August 18th will carry the attached legal notice, which indicates that Fish Urban Dining’s liquor license is being transferred to a new establishment, Oak Street Liquors, LLC.

Our June 7, 2017 Headline Story was then indeed accurate then; Fish Urban Dining is gonzo.  The “closed for kitchen renovations” sign previously posted on their front door was just propaganda.  Figures.  They must think that we’re all a bunch of idiots.  Nice try John.

Reader says Yeah, right. It’s that simple. The Village Of Ridgewood will just “buy” the Town Garage lot.

town_garage_theridgewoodblog

“Buy.”
.
Yeah, right. It’s that simple. The VOR will just “buy” the Town Garage lot.
.
First things first. The town initially needs to lower the price of the property in question, and simultaneously eliminate the Village’s competition for buying it. This is done by declaring that portion of the VOR business district “blighted” which is defined either narrowly, i.e., by the very borders of the property in question, or a little more broadly, i.e., by the square block defined by Franklin Avenue, Walnut Street, Ridgewood Avenue, and Oak Street.
.
/s (sarc off). Governments these days, be they federal, state, county, or municipal, don’t just wade into fights anymore. For a modern politician, there is no fight worth having unless it is fixed fight, meaning, safely fixed in advance. This is sadly probably true with respect to our current Village Council.
.
How many times does this need to be repeated? Many years ago, Ridgewood borrowed some fifteen million dollars via a formal municipal bond, both to finance the purchase of this same Village Garage site AND to erect a municipal parking garage thereon. This maneuver being undertaken in the immediate aftermath of the US Supreme Court’s notorious “Kelo” decision (the noxious holding of which being that a Constitutionally acceptable public use is any use an elected official can dream up and get approved, however hare-brained the scheme), village residents were actually wise to this trick. They loudly objected to the use of the eminent domain power to deprive a fellow VOR property owner of his/her holdings at an artificially depressed price when the “public use” to which the property was to be put was of dubious future value to the public (in this case, a parking garage boondoggle). In light of this, the spooked Village Council dropped the plan before the parcel was even acquired. The bond money, rather than being used to pay off the bond, was promptly spent on other priorities. What a racket, right? We’re still paying off that debt!

Village Council Considers Buying Town Garage Property in Ridgewood

Town Garage Ridgewood

August 4,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, it appears the council has heard the cries about the disrepair of the “Town Garage” property .

Mayor Susan Knudsen announced at the Village Council meeting on Wednesday night that she is in favor of the Village buying the town garage .

Deputy Mayor Mike Sedon and Councilmen Ramon Hache also spoke strongly in favor of the Village buying the garage and pointed out the Village could make up the lost tax revenue in 5 months with parking at the town garage .While Councilmen Voigt was concerned about remediation  and thought the first priority to build a garage on Hudson Street .
The mayor continued to articulate a long term parking strategy for the Village of Ridgewood .Councilwomen Walsh felt strongly the Village should compel the current property owner to clean up the site . The village engineer gave an over view of the contamination , his estimate for the clean up was not forth coming ,however he stated the Village had $900,000 in its capital fund allocated for clean up.
