Paramus NJ, At least three (3) individuals were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals with a variety of injuries following a spectacular crash in which three (3) vehicles slammed into a wall of the Chakra Restaurant at West 144 Route 4, Paramus late Saturday night, 03/24. One (1) of the vehicles flipped over onto its roof prior to hitting the restaurant. A vehicle parked outside of the building was reportedly among those involved. Although the building sustained significant structural damage, all of the injuries were to occupants of the vehicles involved; no one in the restaurant was hurt (all patrons were safely evacuated from the building immediately after impact). A utility pole and fire hydrant were obliterated in the incident. Paramus Police, Fire Department, EMS, and Rescue Squad units responded to the scene along with at least one (1) paramedic team. A mutual aid ambulance was also dispatched to assist with patient transport. The restaurant’s owner was at the scene and was overheard saying that the establishment would likely be closed for several weeks to facilitate necessary repairs.

Paramus NJ, Members of Paramus Fire Department Engine Company #3 quickly extinguished a fast moving brush fire before it extended to a single family home and a detached one (1) car garage in the 400 block of Gregory Road, Paramus on Saturday afternoon, 03/24. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which appeared to have been ignited by sparks from an outdoor fire pit. Paramus Engine Company #1 also responded to the incident.

Paramus NJ, Traffic on Route 17 northbound in Paramus was slowed to a crawl on Tuesday night, 03/20, after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole and rolled on its side just north of Ridgewood Avenue. The right and center travel lanes of the highway were temporarily shut while emergency crews worked. Two (2) of the vehicle’s occupants were injured; one (1) was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus; the other occupant refused medical attention. A dog traveling in the vehicle was also slightly injured; arrangements were being made at the scene to transport it to a nearby veterinary clinic. Paramus Police, EMS, FD, and OEM personnel responded to the incident. Tow truck personnel were standing by at the scene to remove the wrecked vehicle but were unable to do so until PSE&G Electric Division workers stabilized the downed utility pole and dangling wires.

Paramus Police, Fire Department, and EMS personnel responded to a Wednesday evening, 03/14, crash on Route 17 northbound near Kalisa Way, Paramus, in which an SUV hit a utility pole head on. The vehicle’s driver was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Center’s main campus. A paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital assisted Paramus EMTs with patient care. The force of the collision caused a pole mounted electric transformer to fall into a nearby parking lot. Traffic on Route 17 in both directions was slowed considerably until the wrecked vehicle was removed from the roadway by a flatbed tow truck. A PSE&G Electric Division employee was observed on the scene assessing damage to the electric distribution system equipment.

Paramus NJ,  Members of the Paramus Rescue Squad used the “Jaws of Life” to free a trapped occupant from a Toyota Corolla that was involved in a two (2) vehicle collision at the intersection of Forest and Oradell Avenues, Paramus on Sunday afternoon, 02/18. The victim, who appeared to have sustained non life threatening injuries, was transported by a Paramus EMS ambulance to Hackensack University Center’s Main Campus. Both wrecks were removed from the scene by tow trucks. Paramus Police, Fire Department and Oradell Police also responded to the scene.

Paramus NJ, Paramus Police, EMS, Fire Department, and Rescue Squad personnel responded to aid the entrapped adult female driver of a 4-door passenger sedan involved in a 2-vehicle crash at the intersection of Carl Place and Paramus Road, Paramus on Saturday afternoon, 02/10. Members of Paramus Rescue 7 used the “Jaws of Life” to remove the driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle in order to free her. She was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital assisted Paramus EMS. Both vehicles involved in the crash were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.

Paramus NJ, Non life threatening injuries were reported by the adult male driver of a passenger vehicle involved in a Sunday morning, 01/21, rollover crash on Route 17 northbound near East Midland Avenue, Paramus. Paramus Police, Fire, EMS, and Rescue Squad personnel responded to aid the victim, who was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The wrecked vehicle was righted and removed from the highway by a flatbed tow truck.

Paramus NJ, Personnel from Paramus Police, Fire Department, and the Bergen County HazMat Unit responded to Route 17 southbound in near Glen Avenue in Paramus on Thursday morning, 11/09 in response to telephone calls reporting that a tractor trailer owned by UPS had ruptured a diesel fuel saddle tank leaking a significant quantity of fuel onto the traveled highway. After the leak was plugged and the remaining fuel transferred, the disabled truck was towed from the highway by a heavy duty wrecker. A private contractor was called to clean up the highway.

Ridgewood NJ,A Wednesday morning, 10/11, single vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of East Midland and Beech Avenues in Paramus sent the vehicle’s adult female driver to Hackensack University Center’s main campus by ambulance. Paramus Police, EMS, and Fire Department Company #2 responded to the incident. Paramus EMS was assisted by a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital. The wrecked vehicle, a 4-door Chevrolet, was up righted and removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. A portion of East Midland Avenue was closed to through traffic while emergency responders worked at the scene. The vehicle appeared to have hit a tree just prior to rolling over.

Paramus NJ, A two (2) vehicle Wednesday afternoon, 09/27, collision in front of Bergen Community College’s Paramus campus sent an SUV careening off of the roadway, narrowly missing a bus shelter, and toppling a traffic light before coming to a stop. One (1) occupant of the vehicle was trapped inside, which required members of the Paramus Rescue Squad to use the “Jaws of Life” to free her/him. The injured person was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Paramus Road northbound was temporarily closed at the College’s entrance due to the crash. Both vehicles were removed by flatbed tow trucks. Paramus Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the incident also.

Paramus NJ, Paramus Fire department, Paramus Rescue Squad, Parmaus EMS, Paramus Police, and Paramus OEM units responded to a working house fire in the 800 block of Alden Road on Monday morning, 09/04. No injuries were reported in the blaze but the structure sustained heavy fire and water damage. Initial reports were that the home was vacant and under renovation at the time of the fire.

Paramus NJ , Paramus PD, EMS, and FD responded to aid an adult male motorcyclist who was involved in a Thursday afternoon, 08/03, collision on Route 17 southbound near A&S Drive. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) main campus; he was alert and conscious when the Paramus EMS team arrived at the crash site. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital accompanied the ambulance to HUMC.

Paramus NJ, A late Thursday afternoon, 06/15, fire in a computer server room at Bergen Community College’s Paramus campus forced the temporary evacuation of a building and warranted the response of Borough of Paramus and County of Bergen HazMat teams due to the activation of a fm200 chemical agent fire suppression system. A Paramus EMS ambulance crew was called to stand by at the fire scene, but was shortly released by fire department supervisors after it was determined that no one was injured when the suppression system activated. Damage was reported to at least one (1) computer server. Bergen County Sheriff’s officers were also observed at the scene. Paramus FD and Rescue Squad personnel were active within the fire building.

Paramus NJ, A bomb threat forced the evacuation and temporary closure of Bergen Community College’s Paramus campus on the morning of Thursday, 05/04. Paramus PD, EMS, FD, and Rescue Squad responded along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. The campus was closed from just before 11 AM until 2 PM.

Paramus NJ, A Honda SUV traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) near Route 4 in Paramus on Sunday evening, 04/23, careened off of the roadway’s right shoulder, down a steep embankment, and wound up on the grassy shoulder of Route 4 westbound near an entrance ramp to the GSP southbound. Witnesses reported that the vehicle completely flipped over at least once during the crash. Paramus PD, FD, EMS, and Rescue Squad personnel all responded to aid the driver, who was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s (HUMC) main campus with life threatening injuries. A paramedic team from HUMC also responded to the scene. The crash is being investigated by a trooper from the New Jersey State Police GSP Patrol Division, Bloomfield Barracks.
