The Ridgewood Education Foundation has contributed mightily to the Ridgewood schools

Jim Morgan  BOE Vice President

As a former President of the Ridgewood Education Foundation and current Trustee of the Ridgewood Public Schools, I can state that this comment is completely incorrect. Through the Foundations contributions, the high school and middle schools have been able to give each student a Chromebook. The Foundation contributed significantly to the Maker’s Space at the high school and the renovations in the BF & GW science facilities. Over the years the Foundation has contributed mightily to the Ridgewood schools. There is no basis in fact whatsoever for this posting. The Foundation is an all volunteer organization that works exclusively for the children of Ridgewood

Reader Questions Ridgewood Education Foundation’s Commitment to Ridgewood Education

RHS_theridgewoodblog

RE: “Since Inception the Ridgewood Education Foundation has donated more than $1,000,000 to our public schools and community”

The Ridgewood Education Foundation hasn’t donated a PENNY to the schools…. they just shame/bully/cajole/guilt the parents into paying EVEN MORE into an overpriced school system (which is experiencing dwindling returns each year as its value gets reduced to a bumper sticker with no value: “tradition of excellence”)

Parking is NEVER an issue. Gorgeous Saturday night. Just came from town. Restaurants are jumping. People eating in and eating out. Plenty of people strolling. And the Cottage lot is almost empty. Park and walk a couple of blocks folks. If Jerry could walk then so can you.

Lot of water leaks in town – – our infrastructure is aging and we need to take preventive steps. At the same time, we need to be prepared for the additional strain of the hundreds of new families who are going to be moving downtown once the projects are completed.
Is the council taking steps for this gathering storm?

Ridgewood Emergency Services 2017 Fund Drive

Ridgewood Emergency Services

October 22,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Friends of Ridgewood Emergency Services (FOREST) has mailed to all Ridgewood residents and businesses its annual Fund Drive request. It’s the time of year to once again ask for your annual continued generous financial support of Ridgewood Emergency Services (RES). They count on the support of our neighbors like you to
assist in supporting the RES First Responders in their mission to serve the Village with your charitable donation.

We have recently seen three virtually unparalleled disasters in Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria that have mercifully spared the Northeast. But
given the capricious nature of weather – and other unpredictable emergency events – we cannot afford to simply hope for the best; we must be prepared and that preparation
requires funding.
We all saw how crucial emergency services workers were in helping victims of the recent hurricanes. Ridgewood residents can take comfort in knowing that RES provides
emergency assistance to the village 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year.
RES has responded to over 1,246 emergency calls year to date – which equates to 13,275 cumulative hours donated by the volunteers to the Village of Ridgewood on
active duty. It does not include time spent on training, meetings, meeting and event preparation: a cost savings of over $1 million dollars to the Village of Ridgewood.
With your financial support in 2017, RES was able to purchase new transport and communication equipment and additional public access Defibrillation units.
One of the goals for 2018 is the purchase of self-lifting stretchers to eliminate back injuries to the responders. These stretchers cost over $40,000 each (for a total of
$120,000).
By making a financial donation to FOREST, Ridgewood Emergency Services can  continue to respond to the needs of the residents of Ridgewood and its visitors. Please
make your check payable to FOREST (Friends of Ridgewood Emergency Services Teams), 33 Douglas Place Ridgewood, NJ 07450 or online at www.ridgewood911.org
FOREST is a charitable organization under IRS section 501(c)(3) s, your contribution is tax deductible.
Should you be interested in exploring the idea of becoming a member, please call them at (201) 670-5570 or e mail them at [email protected]

Catch a Glimpse of the Orionid Meteor Shower in the Night Sky

Orionid Meteor Shower 2017

October 21,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, according to our friends at SPACE.COM ,”one of the year’s best sky shows will peak this weekend between Oct. 20 and 22, when the Orionid meteor shower reaches its best viewing. The meteors that streak across the sky are some of the fastest and brightest among meteor showers, because the Earth is hitting a stream of particles almost head on.”

“Orionid meteors are visible from anywhere on Earth and can be seen anywhere across the sky. If you find the shape of Orion the Hunter, the meteor shower’s radiant (or point of origin) will be near Orion’s sword, slightly north of his left shoulder (the star Betelgeuse).”

“As is the case with most nighttime skywatching events, light pollution can hinder your view of the Orionid meteor shower. If possible, get far away from city lights (which can hinder the show). Go out around 1:30 a.m. and let your eyes adjust to the dark for about 20 minutes. Bundle up against the cold if necessary. Lie back and use only your eyes to watch the sky. Binoculars and telescopes won’t improve the view, because they are designed to see more stationary objects in the sky.”

Ridgewood NJ,  Special Properties Real Estate Services, LLC, an exclusive affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, has welcomed one of the region’s top real estate agents and Ridgewood native, Amy Bourque, as a Realtor® Associate at its new Ridgewood, NJ office as part of the agency’s ongoing expansion throughout the region.

A resident of the village for more than two decades, Amy Bourque brings a strong network of industry contacts, a deep knowledge of Ridgewood and the greater Bergen area, and a commitment to customer service to Special Properties. She brings a genuine passion for the area and prides herself on her personality, communications skills, and her ability to connect with and understand each client’s unique needs. By coupling Amy’s unique abilities with the Special Properties Christie’s innovative marketing tools, she is able to provide clients with the highest levels of real estate counsel and service.

Amy, a graduate of the University of Delaware, moved to New York City to pursue her passion and first career – music. During her early post-collegiate years, she worked in the fast-paced financial arena on the trading floor at UBS Securities during the day, and performed in a downtown band, the Big Cats, in the evening. After getting married and starting a family, Amy returned to her suburban Ridgewood roots.

Amy still puts aside some time for the stage and is actively involved with the Ridgewood music scene, performing with locally based musicians at fundraising events and functions. She also sits on the Village’s Central Business District Advisory Committee. As an alumna of the Ridgewood public schools, Amy is active with the school system that educated her and her three children. In her downtime, she also enjoys cheering on local athletic teams and supporting Ridgewood’s high school athletic programs.

Ridgewood Schools lock down Willard School

file photo by Boyd Loving

How have we gotten to a point where a man asking for directions to a school triggers 8 cops and a lock down? It was a grandfather asking for directions. I am glad the police responded but it seems pretty extreme to bring him in for questioning instead of just figuring out that he was a grandfather and then giving him directions to the school
