Ridgewood Crash Sends One Victim to the Valley Hospital

Ridgewood NJ, an adult occupant of a 4-door Mazda 3 was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital following a two (2) vehicle, Saturday evening collision in the 100 block of South Maple Avenue, Ridgewood. The victim’s injuries appeared to have been non-life threatening in nature. Both vehicles involved in the collision were towed from the scene. Ridgewood Police Department, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services officers/firefighters/EMTs responded to the incident.

Ridgewood Firefighters Free Trapped Driver After SUV Rollover Crash on Route 17 South

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services officers/firefighters/personnel responded to aid the adult victim of a single vehicle, rollover motor vehicle crash with entrapment that occurred on Route 17 southbound near Paramus Road, Ridgewood on Sunday afternoon, 09/25. The victim was quickly extricated by Ridgewood firefighters and transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital. Tow trucks righted the vehicle, a Honda SUV, and removed it from the scene. Traffic flow on Route 17 southbound near the accident site was restricted on one (1) lane while emergency responders worked. The victim’s injuries appeared to have been non-life threatening in nature.

School Bus Crash in Ridgewood Injuries Seven

Ridgewood NJ, seven (7) injuries were reported in connection with a Monday afternoon, 09/19, crash involving a Ridgewood Public School bus and two (2) passenger vehicles at the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood. Five (5) crash victims were transported to local hospitals by multiple ambulances according to Ridgewood Emergency Services officials. All three (3) vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel rushed to aid the victims. Additional EMS support was provided by EMS units from The Valley Hospital.

Ridgewood Fire Respond to Stove Top Fire at “Chestnut Village” Housing Complex

Ridgewood  NJ, Thursday afternoon, 09/01, multi-family high density housing structure fire, that reportedly originated on a stove top in an unoccupied apartment, resulted in the complete evacuation of the recently constructed “Chestnut Village” housing complex, located in the 100 block of Chestnut Street, Ridgewood. Ridgewood Fire Department, Ridgewood Police  and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel & equipment responded to the incident. Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department and Midland Park Fire Department personnel assisted Ridgewood Fire at the scene. No injuries to firefighters were reported. One (1) adult male building occupant was evaluated by EMTs at the scene; he refused further medical attention. Fire, smoke, and water damage appeared to have been limited to a single apartment.

Falling Tree Crushed New Car in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, a 10-day old Volkswagen Tiguan, unoccupied and parked in a driveway, was crushed by a fallen tree in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue, Ridgewood late Tuesday evening, 08/09. The tree also caused moderate damage to a single family home when it fell. No injuries were reported by any the home’s occupants, who were able to return inside once it was deemed safe to do so by a team of Ridgewood firefighters. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Emergency Services also responded to the incident.

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce and the Ridgewood Police Department along with the Ridgewood Fire Department and Ridgewood Emergency Services hosted a “Touch a Truck” event at two locations Van Nest Square Park and Wilsey Square. The family friendly event featured all the different Village vehicles and equipment from from 10:00 to 2:00.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In Glen Rock Route 208 Crash

Glen Rock NJ, a Sunday afternoon, 07/03, crash on Route 208 northbound, in which a motorcycle operator sustained life threatening serious injuries, resulted in an approximate one (1) hour, complete closure of Route 208 northbound between Maple and Lincoln Avenues in Glen Rock. The crash victim was rushed by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus with the assistance of a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital. Glen Rock Police and Glen Rock EMS responded to aid the victim. Fair Lawn Police and Ridgewood Emergency Services assisted with traffic control. A pothole/roadway depression may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Truck Takes Out Utility Pole Near Glen School in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, the driver of small box truck escaped injury when he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole on East Glen Avenue near Van Emburgh Avenue, Ridgewood on Monday morning, 06/13. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel and vehicles responded to the incident. Motor vehicle access to and from the Glen School and several nearby homes was disrupted by the incident for an extended period.

Ridgewood Emergency Services Announces the Passing of Eugene “Gene” Connors

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Emergency Services announces the passing of Eugene “Gene” Connors :
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eugene “Gene” Connors on April 13th at the age of 78 years old. Gene was a member of Ridgewood Emergency Services for the past 13 years, as both an EMT and a Special Operations member. Gene volunteered thousands of hours to the Village and was the recipient of the “Top Call” award in 2009. In August 2021, Gene became an Inactive Life Member. This is an honor for those members who have provided continuous dedicated service to the department for over 10 years. Gene had joined our department after retiring from his career as a school teacher. Gene had an active interest in sailing and also volunteered with The American Red Cross.

Ridgewood Westside Reporting Power Outages

Ridgewood Nj, electric power outages in sections of the Village’s west side may have been related to a downed tree in the 300 block of Godwin Avenue that took out two (2) utility poles when it fell early Saturday afternoon, 03/12.  No motor vehicles were hit when the tree fell, nor were any personal injuries reported.  Godwin Avenue was closed in both directions from Melrose Place to West End/South Murray Avenues as of 1300 hours.  Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel and vehicles responded to the incident.

No Injuries Reported After Bricks Fall From a Building Façade on East Ridgewood Avenue

Ridgewood NJ, no injuries were reported when several bricks from a building facade fell to the ground on busy East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood shortly after 4PM on Sunday, 03/06. Ridgewood firefighters rushed to the scene and quickly removed any remaining bricks that were loose, and cleared roof located debris that then allowed several feet of standing water to drain. A temporary sidewalk “walk-around” was established by Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel, who also assisted Ridgewood Police with motor vehicle traffic control during the incident. Anthony Merlino, Director of the Village’s Building Department, was also on the scene to assess the building’s structural integrity.

Ridgewood Emergency Services holds its TIES (Teenagers in Emergency Services) training in CPR

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Emergency Services held its TIES (Teenagers in Emergency Services) training in CPR at it’s recent drill night. Over 40 High School students learning CPR for the first time and several refreshing their skills. They are the First Responders on scene when seconds count, be it at home, at school, on the street or at the mall. Learning CPR and volunteering with Ridgewood Emergency Services are valuable skills. The teens are our future EMTs, Paramedics, Doctors, Nurses, Police Officers and Firefighters.

Saturday Night Cooking Oil Spill Closes Chestnut Street in Ridgewood’s Central Business District

Ridgewood NJ, a containment vessel hose line of a single axle tanker truck carrying cooking oil ruptured on Chestnut Street, Ridgewood early Saturday evening, 02/12, while the truck was parked and its driver was servicing a nearby restaurant. An unconfirmed report was that 200-300 gallons of oil may have leaked, with an unknown quantity having spilled into a Chestnut Street located storm drain. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department , Ridgewood Emergency Services, and Bergen County HazMat personnel and vehicles responded to the incident. Clean-up, by a commercial contractor hired by the tanker’s owner, was expected to take several hours. The driver indicated to police that he was in the basement of the restaurant he was servicing at the time the hose line ruptured, and was made aware of the spill by a pedestrian who noticed the oil slick. Despite slick sidewalk and street surfaces, no injuries due to slips & falls were reported in the incident.
