East Rutherford NJ, in what East Rutherford Fire Department is calling the first incident of the New Year, at 230 am January 1st , East Rutherford Fire Department responded to an accident at Al Di La, a restaurant on Hoboken Road and Enoch Street. The vehicle, a Dodge pickup, had crashed through the wall and into the restaurant .

Hackensack NJ, Hackensack Fire fighters ended the year by logging in a busy month December 30th , 350 prospect avenue 2nd alarm fire. Fire was on the number 5 floor. Fire was knocked down by Engine 2. All searches are negative. Englewood and Teaneck fire departments assisted at the scene along with Hackensack UMC BLS . No reported injuries. Fire is currently under investigation.

Ridgewood NJ, Waymo is collaborating with Geely, a Chinese automotive company, to create an EV for its US ride-hailing service. The future EV will have no steering wheel. Its design will focus on riders, with features like plenty of head room, leg room, and reclining seats, screens and chargers, and an easy to configure and comfortable cabin. Regulatory changes will likely be required before Waymo will be allowed to release a car without steering wheels and pedals in the US.

Saddle River NJ, One of our own North Jersey personalities, The King of Con’s Thomas Giacomaro—who grew up in Paterson before living a life of Koi ponds and Bentleys in Saddle River—
was once the inspiration for a Christmas character created by “Queen of Suspense” novelist, Mary Higgins Clark—also a Saddle River/Spring Lake resident until her death last year.
It was Christmas eve 2004 (Higgins’ birthday) when Giacomaro, who bilked Clark for millions after she invested in one of his companies, read Mary’s description of him in her holiday offering, The Christmas Thief.
In a case of art imitating life, Higgins’ lead character, Packy Noonan, was “a world-class scam artist whose offense had been to cheat trusting investors out of nearly $100 million in the seemingly legitimate company he had founded… Fifty years old, narrow-faced, with a hawk-like nose, close-set eyes, thinning brown hair, and a smile that inspired trust.”
Yup. That’s him all right. “The guy even looks like me,” says Giacomaro today, still a NJ local but now reformed and living life on the straight and narrow.
Mary was a tad more lenient on her fictionalized scam artist than a judge was with Giacomaro, who was sentenced to four months more prison time than her lead character:

Beginning January 1, 2022, each household is limited to putting out a maximum of 7 items on bulk pickup day. This will reduce the amount of bulk refuse being put into the landfills, which will save the Village money. We request that you consider donating useable items to a non-profit or charity. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. If you have more than 7 items to be picked up, you may request a special pick up from the Village, by calling 201-670-5579. An extra fee will be charged for the special pick up, per Village ordinance.

Ridgewood NJ, It’s New Year’s Eve and Americans are ready to say good-bye and good riddance to 2021.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only two percent (2%) of American Adults rate 2021 one of the best years ever. Another five percent (5%) think it was an excellent year and 16% rate 2021 a good year. These numbers are dwarfed by the 48% of Americans who give 2021 a poor rating.
