Ridgewood NJ, Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care has welcomed its first patient in the ICE COMPRESS clinical trial that is comparing the effectiveness of three approaches in the prevention of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. At this time, Valley is the only site in New Jersey participating in the trial. The clinical trial is sponsored by SWOG Cancer Research Network in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Ridgewood NJ, Virgin Galactic’s first tourists rocketed to the edge of space on Thursday. The tourists were a former British Olympian who bought his ticket 18 years ago and a mother-daughter duo from the Caribbean. Virgin Galactic can now start offering monthly rides. There are currently about 800 people on Virgin Galactic’s waiting list, with tickets costing $450,000.

Fair Lawn NJ, a young driver lost control of his new SUV within the busy intersection of Fair Lawn Avenue and Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, and crashed it into a nearby concrete block retaining wall shortly after 12 noon on Saturday, 08/12. No one was injured in the mishap. Fair Lawn Police responded to incident. A flatbed tow truck lifted the damaged vehicle from the retaining wall and towed it away. Police at the scene did not indicate whether any crash related summonses were issued.

Saddle River NJ, Road closure, please plan accordingly. East Allendale Road will be shut from 7AM to approximately 4PM on or about Monday August 14 and Tuesday August 15 in both directions at West Saddle River Road and East Saddle River Road. The road will be shut due to construction at the bridge.

Wyckoff NJ, Wyckoff Police Department reminds residents to lock your car doors! We’ve had an increase in theft from vehicles as well as actual vehicles taken in our area. All of the vehicles have been unlocked. Thieves typically go driveway to driveway looking for unlocked cars. If they find a locked car, they move on until they find an unlocked one. The simple act of locking your car can decrease your chances of becoming a victim. Also, please do not leave your keys or key fobs in the vehicle. Thieves often will check to see if the keys are in the vehicle or push the start button on keyless ignition. It’s bad enough to wake up to find your vehicle gone through, but it can be worse if your vehicle is taken.
