Ridgewood NJ, Governor Phil Murphy signed S1080, which eliminates the use of mandatory driver’s license suspensions as a penalty for certain non-moving offenses.
“Driver’s licenses suspensions for reasons unrelated to moving offenses are often overly punitive and can have a disproportionate financial impact on many working-class and minority families.” said Governor Murphy. “A stronger and fairer New Jersey includes adapting our laws to support working families and not act against them.”
“I agree with American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators that we should not be suspending driver licenses for offenses unrelated to driving,’’ said Motor Vehicle Commission Chief Administrator Sue Fulton. “Whether you’re going to work, a doctor’s appointment or taking children to school, a driver’s license is a tool – a permit to drive on our public roads. It is no more nor less than a way for us to keep our roads and drivers safe.’’
S1080 eliminates mandatory driver’s license suspensions for certain non-moving violations. The law also repeals the driver’s license suspension required for criminal convictions related to the possession or sale of illegal drugs and removes the provision that a person’s driver’s license be suspended by operation of law upon the issuance of a child support-related warrant.

Trenton NJ, Governor Hands Out Benefits to Non-Citizens While State Residents Suffer
Senator Michael Testa chided Governor Phil Murphy for signing legislation that grants driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.
“New Jersey families take a backseat to illegal immigrants under the Murphy administration,” said Testa (R-1). “Trenton Democrats prioritized handouts for illegals over lowering our sky-high property taxes and properly funding schools for our children. I will continue to fight this lunacy and prioritize making New Jersey more affordable for the hard-working legal residents of our great state.”
Testa voted against S-3229, which creates a second tier of driver’s licenses for those who are unable to prove lawful presence in the United States.
“First, it was college tuition aid for illegals, now its driver’s licenses. What’s next?” asked Testa. “This move is an insult to every law-abiding citizen of the Garden State. We need to get this state back on track and focus on what residents really want – a more affordable New Jersey.”

Edgewater NJ, A Bergen County, New Jersey, man was arrested this morning after using his Twitter account to threaten to kill agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Carlos Alejandro Tariche, 22, of Edgewater, New Jersey, was arrested by agents of U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and charged by complaint with one count of interstate communications containing threats to injure. He is scheduled to appear this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court.

The 2020 Annual Commuter (Ridgewood Parking Permits – RPP) will go on sale on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. at the Reception Desk in the lobby of Village Hall, and will continue to be sold Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except holidays. All applicants must bring their driver’s license and vehicle registration(s) for car(s) they wish to list on their permits, as the RPPs allow up to 3 cars on each hang tag. Trenton NJ, Governor Phil Murphy Signs Restoration of Voting Rights to People on Probation and Parole.With the stroke of Gov. Phil Murphy’s pen, New Jersey restored the right to vote to people on probation or parole.
The bill, A-5823, was passed on November 25 by the Assembly and on December 16 by the Senate. It restores voting rights upon a person’s release from prison, and to those on parole or probation. The law will go into effect 90 days from signing, or March 17, 2020.
Once implemented, this law will restore the right to vote for an estimated 83,000 New Jerseyans on probation or parole.

Saddle River NJ, The Garden State Preservation Trust has approved and recommended to the New Jersey State Legislature nearly $87 million in funding for projects to develop or update parks, playgrounds and fields, including $1 million for Vista Park in the City of Paterson, to help enhance quality of life statewide, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Catherine R.
