EAST GREENWICH TOWNSHIP NJ, New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher visited Powell’s Greenhouses in Gloucester County this week to highlight that poinsettias are now being shipped by New Jersey greenhouses and nursery growers. December 12 was National Poinsettia Day.
New Jersey ranked 11th in the U.S. in wholesale poinsettia plants sold in the USDA’s Floriculture Crop Summary released earlier this year. The summary reported 43 producers sold 1.3 million plants with a total value of $7.7 million. Nursery is the largest commodity group in New Jersey agriculture with an annual value of nearly $500 million.

JERSEY CITY, N.J.– In conjunction with federal, state, and county law enforcement partners, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal today released new information regarding the shootings yesterday, December 10, in Jersey City, including the identities of the two shooters and the three innocent civilian victims who were killed inside the supermarket. The identity of the fallen Jersey City detective, Joseph Seals, 39, was released previously by the Jersey City Police Department.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Library had a different, more pragmatic renovation plan prior to 2018. That plan was deemed sufficient to address the future service needs of the Library. In the 2018 library trustee meeting minutes, the architect mentions that plan would cost $5 million. That plan matches the alternate plan mentioned at this year’s meeting at Village Council: $4 million for the library. $1 million was probably for squaring the auditorium, which the alternate plan doesn’t include.

River Vale NJ,Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi ,” Today the Assembly Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to permit undocumented immigrants to receive full driver’s licenses in New Jersey. As with all bills the devil always lies in the details. While I would consider a type of driving privilege card for those who may not be here legally, this bill once again goes too far. One of my biggest issues with the bill is that just last year Governor Murphy signed into law an automatic voter registration law under which anyone and everyone who applies for a driver’s license in New Jersey automatically is registered to vote. You must pro actively exempt yourself or you are now eligible to vote in every election. All penalties for improperly registering to vote also were removed in that bill with a presumption that if you get “caught” you didn’t mean to do it (the specific language in A2014 signed into law in 2018 says “e. If a person who is not entitled to vote becomes registered to vote pursuant to this section, that person’s registration shall be presumed to have been effected with official authorization, and the person shall not be deemed to have committed a crime under 29 R.S.19:34-1). Therefore we are now potentially automatically registering to vote undocumented individuals who otherwise are prohibited from voting in our elections without real protections to prevent this. No one has given me any assurance as to how the State intends to prevent this from occurring. No language is in this bill that exempts these basic licenses from automatic registration.

Citizens for Positive Change NJ is hosting a press conference to warn the public about the dangers of granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

Teaneck NJ, a highly controversial 68-unit apartment complex will replace a vacant office building on State Street.The township’s Zoning Board voted 6-1 Thursday night to give a developer the approvals needed to go ahead with the project, over the objections of massive resident protests. The group Teaneck East Votee Neighborhood Assn has raised concerns about adding to the neighborhood’s density.The vote came after half a dozen hearings spread across nearly a year. Board member Monica Honis cast the sole vote against the project.
PARAMUS NJ, With the Dec. 31 retirement of Bergen Community College President Michael D. Redmond, Ph.D., approaching, the institution’s board of trustees has announced it will conduct a national search for the institution’s eighth president in the coming months and has named Anthony Ross, Ed.D., the College’s interim president effective Jan. 1, 2020. Ross has served as the College’s interim vice president of student affairs since September.
