A walk in the park may soothe the mind and, in the process, change the workings of our brains in ways that improve our mental health, according to an interesting new study of the physical effects on the brain of visiting nature.
Most of us today live in cities and spend far less time outside in green, natural spaces than people did several generations ago.
City dwellers also have a higher risk for anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses than people living outside urban centers, studies show.
These developments seem to be linked to some extent, according to a growing body of research. Various studies have found that urban dwellers with little access to green spaces have a higher incidence of psychological problems than people living near parks and that city dwellers who visit natural environments have lower levels of stress hormones immediately afterward than people who have not recently been outside.

An undercover video was released today allegedly showing a Planned Parenthood senior executive negotiating the price of aborted fetal body parts.
The video, released by the Center for Medical Progress, adds to allegations that Planned Parenthood is profiting from fetal tissue donation. It follows the release of an earlier undercover video with another Planned Parenthood executive that sparked congressional investigations and calls for federal defunding of the organization.
Planned Parenthood maintains that it is not profiting from the sale of fetal tissue. The video released today shows Dr. Mary Gatter, president of Planned Parenthood’s Medical Director’s Council, saying she doesn’t want to “lowball” the price of an aborted fetal part.
Gatter and the investigators eventually agree on a $100 price tag per specimen, but Gatter says she has to ask Planned Parenthood Federation of America “for a waiver” before moving forward.
According to the Center for Medical Progress, Gatter was medical director at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles until 2014, and she now oversees their Pasadena affiliate. Gatter holds additional leadership and advisory positions at the national level of Planned Parenthood.
Gatter said she “wouldn’t object” to asking the surgeon to use a “less crunchy” abortion technique that would increase the odds of an intact specimen, which would violate patient protocol.
At the end of the negotiations, Gatter tells investigators, “I want a Lamborghini.”
Last week, another senior executive at Planned Parenthood was caught on camera by the Center for Medical Progress. In that video, actors portraying potential buyers from a “human biologics company” met with Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s senior director of medical services.

WHEN IS an improving fiscal situation not really an improving fiscal situation? When it’s the United States’ current one.
That’s the lesson of the White House’s annual budget update, known as the Mid-Session Review, which was published Tuesday by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Data in the report show the federal government is on course to record a $455 billion budget deficit this year, which is $128 billion less than the Obama administration had projected six months ago. Expressed as a percentage of gross domestic product, this is even more impressive: it amounts to six-tenths of a percent of GDP that we were planning to borrow this year, but won’t have to borrow after all. Well over half of this unexpected deficit reduction is due to above-forecast tax revenue, generated by the economy’s continued growth. Given the report’s forecasts for next year, it is likely that, as a share of the economy, the budget deficit at the end of the Obama presidency will be three-quarters smaller than it was at the beginning. Not too shabby.
Here’s the problem: This year’s progress is likely to get canceled out later on. The same White House report projects no real improvement in the long-term fiscal outlook, and indeed foresees a slight deterioration. In February, the OMB forecast that the public debt — the stock of accumulated annual deficits — would drift down from 75.3 percent of GDP this year to 73 percent by 2025. Now, however, the OMB sees public debt stuck at 74.6 percent in 2025. Though sustainable in the short run, no one can say for sure how long that level of debt will remain affordable; it is well above historical norms for the U.S. economy. It leaves the United States a narrower “fiscal space” to help cope with another recession, war or other emergency. And it represents the uncomfortably high base from which debt is expected to rise even more in the years after 2025, according to the Congressional Budget Office and other experts.
These stubbornly high levels of public debt, and the prospect of truly uncontrolled debt in the years beyond 2025, reflect the lack of fundamental reform to U.S. entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security. President Obama may be able to boast about lower deficits on his watch, but not his avoidance of this issue.
That much is, alas, familiar; but the White House report adds sluggish economic growth to the list of reasons for the troubling long-term picture. Specifically, the OMB now expects the U.S. economy to expand only 2 percent this year, as opposed to the 3 percent it forecast at the beginning of 2015. That lower forecast, in turn, caused forecasters to downgrade growth expectations slightly for the rest of Mr. Obama’s second term; the annual rate will probably not reach 3 percent in that time.

I got into an early discussion today about America. I came to the conclusion that today’s America* is an ugly fraud. We wave the flag adorned with stars and stripes, we reminisce about a glorious history, we point to the constitution, the founding fathers and freedom and then we include ourselves as part of this legacy; as though we have some natural right to call ourselves by the same name. But is that true? Do Americans* by way of history simply get to partake in the greatness of our past? Do we get to say we are somehow part of all the great things done by those who came before us?

In addition to the lowering of the flags, Mr. Trump has established a hotline (855- VETS- 352) and email address ([email protected]) for Veterans to share their stories about the need to reform our Veterans Administration.
If he is elected President he will take care of these and all Veteran complaints very quickly and efficiently like a world-class business man can do, but a politician has no clue.

The American Red Cross North Jersey Region has announced it will be placing its Ridgewood location at 74 Godwin Avenue on the market in the upcoming weeks. The move comes as part of the organization’s 2017 planning strategy is the utilization optimization of Red Cross facilities.
Currently, the Red Cross North Jersey Region operates out of 13 facilities, some of which are under-utilized and others that are in need of significant repair. The North Jersey Region is in the process of reviewing its real estate footprint taking into account its service delivery, volunteer operations, training locations and storage needs.
The vast majority of Red Cross program and services in Ridgewood and across the region are performed out in the community and not at the organization’s brick and mortar locations, the organization wrote in a statement. The Red Cross remains committed to ensuring residents in all of our communities, including Ridgewood, continue to receive Red Cross services.

(CNSNews.com) – As of Monday morning, July 20, the U.S. flag continued to fly at the top of the pole above the White House and at the U.S. Capitol building, five days after a gunman launched attacks in which he murdered five U.S. military personnel at facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn.
President Barack Obama has yet to order the flags to half-staff following this tragedy. By contrast, in 2012, President Obama did order the flags flown at half-staff on the same day as the shootings at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Last Thursday, 24-year-old Mohammod Abdulazeez, armed with multiple weapons, opened fire at a local military recruiting center before continuing his rampage at the nearby Navy Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center Chattanooga.

Similar stories for two King’s Ponds
To the Editor:
What do the King’s Pond in Ridgewood and the King’s Pond in Franklin Lakes have in common? Both have been allowed to fall into disrepair due to years of inaction by both municipalities. The administrations in both towns have used the “kick the can down the road” approach to the maintenance of these ponds by refusing to plan and budget for the necessary repairs and restorations during their tenure. The result at this point is that both ponds are approaching swamp status.
The Franklin Lakes pond, which has never been dredged, has fallen into serious disrepair with low water levels, decaying vegetation and noticeable smell. Its pond is inaccessible due to overgrowth of foliage on its shoreline.
Similarly, the pond in Ridgewood has fallen in disrepair. It was last dredged in October 1999. Today, the water level in the center of the pond is five inches deep with vegetation protruding its surface. Access to the entire length of the pond existed in 2007. Today, the entire shoreline is overgrown thus denying access for fishing and viewing.
At least Franklin Lakes has finally taken action to resolve years of neglect for its King’s Pond by budgeting to dredge and restore the pond to its intended use.
To date, Ridgewood has done nothing to restore its King’s Pond to be worthy of its Wildscape status. After years of bringing this blight to the attention of past as well as the current administration, no plan or budget has been introduced to resolve this deterioration. Ridgewood’s lack of concern for these natural resources is irresponsible.
Both communities should be ashamed for allowing their inaction to promote this preventable deterioration.

The Obama administration is moving forward with regulations designed to help diversify America’s wealthier neighborhoods, drawing fire from critics who decry the proposal as executive overreach in search of an “unrealistic utopia.”
A final Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rule due out this month is aimed at ending decades of deep-rooted segregation around the country.
The regulations would use grant money as an incentive for communities to build affordable housing in more affluent areas while also taking steps to upgrade poorer areas with better schools, parks, libraries, grocery stores and transportation routes as part of a gentrification of those communities.
“HUD is working with communities across the country to fulfill the promise of equal opportunity for all,” a HUD spokeswoman said. “The proposed policy seeks to break down barriers to access to opportunity in communities supported by HUD funds.”
It’s a tough sell for some conservatives. Among them is Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), who argued that the administration “shouldn’t be holding hostage grant monies aimed at community improvement based on its unrealistic utopian ideas of what every community should resemble.”
“American citizens and communities should be free to choose where they would like to live and not be subject to federal neighborhood engineering at the behest of an overreaching federal government,” said Gosar, who is leading an effort in the House to block the regulations.
Civil rights advocates, meanwhile, are praising the plan, arguing that it is needed to break through decades-old barriers that keep poor and minority families

Trump: I don’t need to be lectured

John McCain has called his own constituents who want a secure border “crazies.” No one in the news media or the establishment, including theRepublican National Committee, criticized the senator for those comments.
Now, as respected reporter Sharyl Attkisson has proved point by point, the news media are also distorting my words. But that is not my point. McCain the politician has failed the state of Arizona and the country.
During my entire business career, I have always made supporting veterans a top priority because our heroes deserve the very best for defending our freedom. Our Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals are outdated dumps. I will build the finest and most modern veterans hospitals in the world. The current medical assistance to our veterans is a disaster. A Trump administration will provide the finest universal access health care for our veterans. They will be able to get the best care anytime and anywhere.
Thanks to McCain and his Senate colleague Bernie Sanders, their legislation to cover up the VA scandal, in which 1,000+ veterans died waiting for medical care, made sure no one has been punished, charged, jailed, fined or held responsible. McCain has abandoned our veterans. I will fight for them.
The reality is that John McCain the politician has made America less safe, sent our brave soldiers into wrong-headed foreign adventures, covered up for President Obama with the VA scandal and has spent most of his time in the Senate pushing amnesty. He would rather protect the Iraqi border than Arizona’s. He even voted for the Iran Nuclear Review Act of 2015, which allows Obama, who McCain lost to in a record defeat, to push his dangerous Iran nuclear agreement through the Senate without a supermajority of votes.

More than 60 percent of registered Hispanic voters do not think a pathway to citizenship for illegals would benefit the country, and most do not see it as the best way to solve the country’s immigration problems, a new poll shows.
Of the 62 percent who felt a pathway to citizenship for illegals would not benefit the country, 33 percent felt it would hurt the economy, 7 percent felt it would overly burden public schools and 10 percent felt it would create public safety issues,the McKeon & Associates Wednesday poll found.
