Ridgewood NJ, at Mondays Ridgewood board of Education meeting the Ridgewood High School Social Justice Club did a presentation on “Implicit Bias”, Three students from the RHS Social Justice Club, Laurence Fine, Nicole Constant, and Amy Adawalla, gave a presentation on Implicit Bias. A longer version of the program had previously been given at an RHS Home and School Association meeting, an RHS faculty meeting, and various club meetings. The students explained implicit bias and discussed Harvard’s IAT tests which can be taken by individuals to measure implicit bias. They shared why we should study implicit bias, how it can lead to discrimination, and what questions should be considered when having these important discussions.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Schools implemented the K-1 model on March 29 . Phase II of the reopening plan begins on April 19. The number of remote students for Phase II (10% at the elementary level to 25% at the high school level) is consistent with where they were in September. We still need parents and students to be vigilant and to assist us in keeping schools open by not hosting large gatherings of students where COVID is easily spread. To help combat the spread of the virus, remember to follow the 3W’s – watch your distance, wear a mask, and wash your hands.

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Crew team recently participated in the first Manny Flick of the 2021 Manny Flick Series of rowing races before the annual regatta season begins. To give the crews time to size up the competition, local teams came up with a series for the rowers at the “flicks” on the famous Schuylkill racecourse. The “flicks” are named after Manuel A. Flick, a father who organized the first series in the 1950s.
