2021’s Best Cities for Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse

Ridgewood NJ, how could you survive a zombie apocalypse? The CDC weighed in on the subject, albeit tongue-in-zombie-cheek.  But in the (unlikely?) event of a zombie uprising, where do the living have the best chance of defending themselves?

Inspired by the CDC’s Zombie Preparedness 101 guide, Lawn Love dug in the data graveyard to rank 2021’s Best Cities for Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse. We compared the 200 biggest U.S. cities on 23 key indicators of zombie-preparedness — from the share of the population in good physical health to the share of available homes with basements to hunting-gear access. Check out the 10 best (and 10 worst) cities for fighting against the undead below, followed by some highlights and lowlights from our report.

The Invasive and Highly Destructive Emerald Ash Borer has arrived in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, Heather A. Mailander the Village Manager sent out and email yesterday defining the destructive nature of the Emerald Ash Bore . The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a small (1/2 inch), invasive insect currently destroying Ash trees in many regions of North America. It was first discovered in Michigan 20 years ago and has killed tens of millions of Ash trees throughout the midwest. EAB is working its way up the East Coast, and is now very active in Ridgewood. EAB kills 100% of untreated ash trees.

The Consumer Price Index Rose at a 5.4% Annual Rate

Ridgewood NJ, according to the Bureau of labor Statistics  the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.5 percent in July on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.9 percent in June.  Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 5.4 percent before seasonal adjustment. The indexes for shelter, food, energy, and new vehicles all increased in July and contributed to the monthly all items seasonally adjusted increase.

Ridgewood Teens Join Other Teens Volunteering for New Archdiocese of Newark Service Program

Ridgewood NJ,  Dozens of young Archdiocese of Newark parishioners volunteered some of their vacation time this summer to assist with maintenance projects at sites throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties. Their efforts were part of “Days in the Diocese,” a new program presented by the Archdiocese’s Office for Youth & Young Adult Ministry that offered one-day service immersion experiences to teens enrolled in a parish youth group or Confirmation program.

An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.
