Fake COVID-19 vaccination cards are widely available

Ridgewood NJ, as more employers, universities, and venues in the US and Europe implement vaccine mandates, officials are warning of a rise in fake SARS-CoV-2 vaccination certificates. According to investigators and cybersecurity experts, the past few weeks have seen a number of ways to purchase counterfeit vaccine cards on social media, messaging apps, and the dark web. While the European Union has a digital vaccine passport system that assigns a unique QR code to each individual, the US relies on paper cards distributed by the US CDC, which are easy to forge and were never intended to be used as proof of vaccination. Some US states are working to implement digital verification systems, but other states have outlawed the use of such systems or implemented punishments for businesses and other entities that ask for proof of vaccination.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood restaurant It’s Greek to Me, will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination from all diners who wish to be seated inside the business’s main dining room. On the restaurant’s Facebook page its states ,“For the safety of our fully vaccinated staff and patrons, beginning Tuesday August 10, indoor dining will be reserved for those showing proof of vaccination. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. All of our outdoor dining will remain available to everyone.”

Election Integrity: 74% Of Voters Support Photo ID Requirement

Ridgewood NJ, Voters overwhelmingly believe it’s important to prevent cheating in elections and agree that requiring photo identification is a reasonable measure to ensure election integrity.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 90% of Likely U.S. Voters think it is important to prevent cheating in elections, including 79% who say it’s Very Important. Only seven percent (7%) of voters believe it’s not important to prevent election cheating. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Chris’s unmatched enthusiasm and energy was a beautiful thing to behold- a room full of children laughing, dancing, and shouting out song requests was a sight to brighten even the cloudiest day. Chris was a beloved performer and friend, and we hope that his legacy of putting smiles on faces will live on. Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this incredibly difficult time.”

US Economy adds 943,000 Jobs in better-than-expected jobs report

Washington DC, Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 943,000 in July, and the unemployment rate declined by 0.5 percentage point to 5.4 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
reported today. Notable job gains occurred in leisure and hospitality, in local government education, and in professional and business services.

Justice Department Reaches Agreement with State of New Jersey over failure of disability transportation offices to provide voter registration opportunities

Trenton NJ,  the Justice Department announced today that it has entered into a proposed consent decree to settle a voting rights lawsuit with the State of New Jersey and state officials.

The Justice Department’s lawsuit, brought under Section 7 of the National Voter Registration Act, challenges the failure of disability transportation offices in the State of New Jersey – including NJ Transit Access Link and county-based Community Transportation programs – to provide voter registration opportunities to their customers.

Warning: Phishing Emails Impersonate NJ MVC

Phishing emails are being sent to New Jersey state employees and the public regarding driver’s license updates, similar to recently circulated SMS text scams. These messages claim that the recipient needs to update their information with the Social Security Administration to avoid suspension of their license. These phishing email includes a link that, if clicked, directs the user to a malicious website that appears to be a French news site. The website is now identified as malicious by a number of anti-virus programs; however, new websites  – as well as different sender emails and subject lines – may be used in subsequent phishing campaigns. Email and text-based phishing messages impersonating the MVC may be targeting New Jersey residents in part due to the rollout of REAL ID.

Two Men Admit Receiving over $500,000 in Global Robocall Scam that Defrauded Elderly Victims

Camden NJ,  two Indian nationals today admitted to conspiracy to commit wire fraud by accepting illegally obtained wire transfers from victims across the country totaling over $600,000, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced.

Zeeshan Khan, 22, and Maaz Ahmed Shamsi, 24, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joseph Rodriguez in Camden federal court to an information charging each with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Glenwood Road to Reopen Going One Way From Ridgewood to Ho-Ho-Kus

Ridgewood NJ, at Wednesday’s Village Council meeting Village Manager Heather Mailander announced that Glenwood Road was reopening going one way from Ridgewood to Ho-Ho-Kus . Glenwood Road hill was closed while the NJ Department of Transportation and NJ Transit improved the railroad crossing at the Ho-Ho-Kus train station.
