Ridgewood NJ, During this past Wednesday evening’s Village Council Work Session (06/28), Ridgewood Mayor Susan Knudsen announced Ridgewood Water’s intent to acquire, via outright purchase, the building and property located at 111 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood, which is currently owned by the Ridgewood Elks Holding Corporation.
Mayor Knudsen further stated that Ridgewood Water would make improvements to the Elks Lodge building to permit the relocation of water utility operations currently housed in Midland Park, and at Village Hall in Ridgewood.
No information was made available during the aforementioned meeting as to whether the Midland Park property would be sold when vacated, nor what would be done with the water utility’s space at Village Hall once the utility leaves it.
Ridgewood Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh and Councilman Jeffrey Voigt both stated their opposition to the purchase. Councilman Ramon Hache said that he’d initially been opposed to the plan also, but now viewed it as a good idea.
Costs for property acquisition and building improvements are said to be in the neighborhood of $3 million, according to Councilwoman Walsh.
Further public discussions about the proposed plan with take place later in the summer, as per Mayor Knudsen.
Of course the district can re-assign students at any moment, and of course they are going to have to once the reality of all these new students hits home. Do you seriously think the developers are not going to market these apartments to young families with children? And, if you were a family of any age, wouldn’t you go for the cheapest way to obtain the best education for your family.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And when he was mayor, he went out of his way to give away the Village to others.
The apartment projects are going to attract good solid people, just like those who built the Village and those who work so hard to maintain the quality of life. But, people beget more people, and that’s the fact of life. Its not that we don’t want these people, in our Village – – we absolutely do. Its just that we can’t afford that many new people. We don’t want this number of new people.
The Aronsohn projects will bring in 300 to 400 families when all is said and done. You can expect your taxes to go up to take care of their schooling, lights for their roads, water & sewage infrastructure improvements, etc.
And now that this round of housing is done – – look for the developers to buy up more properties and say they should be able to build the same number of units. And ask this council what the hell it is doing to stop this nonsense, now that the word is out it is easy pickings for developers to zero in on Ridgewood.

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood YMCA Breakers competitive swim team will have two try-outs scheduled for the 2017-2018 short course winter season. The early bird try-out offers the opportunity for the swimmer to be evaluated by our coaching staff and receive notification about their result within 48 hours. The dates for the early bird try-outs are July 31 and August 2 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Registration is prior to the try-outs at 4 p.m. All ages are welcome.
A swimmer who attends the early bird try-out and needs to sharpen their competitive swimming skills will be encouraged to register for the try-out prep class and try-out during the regular try-out held in September. Try-out prep class will meet August 7 through August 23 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please contact Coach Rimbault for more information.
The dates for regular try-outs are September 5 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for ages 9 to 12 years old, September 6 from 5:00-6:45 p.m. for children 8 years old and under and September 7 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. for those children ages 13 and up. The Ridgewood YMCA Breakers competitive swim team encompasses swimmers who can properly swim the four competitive strokes; providing youths the opportunity to acquire the skills, self-discipline, confidence, and physical conditioning to become the best swimmers they can be. The program offers instruction, training, and competition to young people from ages 6 through high school. Swimmers will improve their skills while also learning the values of teamwork and sportsmanship and individual responsibility.

Ridgewood NJ, A two (2) vehicle Thursday afternoon, 06/29, collision at the intersection of East Glen Avenue and East Saddle River Road in Ridgewood resulted in a non life threatening elbow injury to one (1) vehicle occupant. Both vehicles involved, a Nissan Rogue and a 1930 Ford Model “A”, were towed from the scene. The injured party was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital. Ridgewood Police, Fire, and EMS responded. Fire Department personnel attended to a crash related fluid spill. Ho-Ho-Kus Police assisted with traffic control.

You don’t care about what will be irretrievably lost in Ridgewood, the small town character , feel , charm, that special personality…. that I moved in for in nineteen seventy- eight and that yes, by and large remained, and that idiot planning board member, who said RIDGEWOOD IS A BUSY PLACE, so it’s NOT SO BAD that there will be all this multi family mess, is an example of the majority mind set and lack of aesthetic sensitivity. What in the HELL does he mean a BUSY PLACE. Everyone in the world , basically, raises a family, works a job, does that mean we have to live in an ugly overcrowded , polluted environment. All beauty and charm gone. I spoke at many meetings about keeping Ridgewood THE SAME, wrote many letters. To no avail. You will all be overjoyed to know that this is my goodbye to the blog and to all town meetings. James does a great job with the blog, but the town, as I have known it will soon be transformed into another crowded Joisey mess and I no longer want to be involved. One last point, Earth Day also means living in a pleasing environment without tons of traffic and pollution resulting from traffic. Earth Day is ruined in Ridgewood as far as I am concerned.

2017 Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Launches 50/50 Raffle to Fundraise for its 107th Annual Celebration –
Grand Prize winner will have a chance to win up to $25,000 Ridgewood, NJ – June 14, 2017 – The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Committee today announced the launch of a 50/50 raffle to help fundraise for its 2017 celebration. The Committee will sell tickets at various community events now through July 3, 2017.
Tickets are $100 dollars each, with a maximum of 600 tickets sold. If the maximum number of tickets is sold, the Grand Prize winner will receive $25,000 dollars. There will also be ten $500 prize winners. Winners will be announced at 8:30PM on July 4th, prior to the fireworks display at Veteran’s Field. • Flag Raising: 9:00AM Wilsey Square (Ridgewood train station parking lot) Short program followed by traditional flag raising: Although the parade and firework portions of the day have on occasion been cancelled, the flag raising has occurred without interruption since the start of the committee in 1910. • Parade: Beings at 10:00AM (rain or shine) Parade runs along Godwin Ave and onto Ridgewood Ave through downtown, turning right on Maple Ave past the grand stand at Village Hall and ends at Leuning Park Follow the line of chairs set up by residents securing their spot. Don’t miss the competitive elementary school float competition and the Grand Marshal for this year, Bob Paoli, American Legion Post 53 Commander.
• Evening Entertainment and Fireworks: Gates open at 6:00PM Veterans Field (on the corner of Maple Ave and Linwood) The field is the ideal place to see the fireworks, which have been named the best in Bergen County by 201 Magazine for 11 years running. The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration is organized by the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration, Inc., an all-volunteer, non-profit community group. All aspects of this annual celebration including fireworks, bands, evening performers, insurance, police and fire personnel are funded by voluntary contributions from local businesses and individuals. The Committee continues to require the generous donations from the community to keep the tradition alive. The Ridgewood tradition began in 1910 when the local papers, the civic section of the Woman’s Club and the Ridgewood Fire Department joined forces to create a “safe and sane” holiday with an emphasis on Patriotism.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police issued three (3) summonses in connection with a Wednesday afternoon, 06/28, single vehicle crash at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Kensington Drive, Ridgewood. The adult female driver of a VW station wagon reportedly mistook a pedestrian sidewalk for a roadway and ran head on into a street sign and tree. No injuries were reported by the driver, who was the lone vehicle occupant. A flatbed tow truck removed the wrecked vehicle from the scene. The question now arises under the new shade tree policy who pays if the tree is lost?
Ridgewood NJ, Approximately 50 gallons of cooking oil spilled into a Village of Ridgewood municipal parking lot on Wednesday morning, 06/28. Officials from the Village’s Health, Police, Fire, Engineering, and Sanitation departments responded to investigate the incident. Fire department personnel applied an absorbent material to the affected surface areas and a private contractor was called to undertake a thorough clean up process. It is believed that 55 gallon drum containing the cooking oil was inadvertently knocked over by a refuse removal contractor trying to access a nearby garbage dumpster.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood residents have a tradition of their own, they start setting out chairs along the Fourth of July Parade route on North Maple Avenue as early as this weekend.
The placing of chairs along the parade route is a village tradition dating back over 50 years. While we do get complainers generally is a lot of fun and often a bit competitive over spots .
The Police leave the chairs alone and some people tie up their , to keep them together and from blowing out into the street.
Normally by July 3, most of the parade route for this year’s the 107th annual Ridgewood Fourth of July Parade will be lined from beginning to end with chairs.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. July 4, and the theme of the 2017 Fourth of July Celebration is “Honoring Those Who Serve.”
