Westwood Hosts its third Annual Westwood New Year’s (Early) Eve Celebration!

Westwood NJ, the borough of Westwood Borough and the Westwood Recreation Department celebrated its third annual Westwood New Year’s (Early) Eve Celebration on Saturday, December 31 from 4:30-6:00pm at Veterans’ Park. This family friendly event featured live music from popular local musician Kyle Towey from 5:00-6:00pm and an exciting illuminated “ball drop” from the Westwood Fire Department’s bucket truck right at 6:00pm.

AJ had a vision, asked all the right questions in order to secure the governing body’s support, and he developed a strategic plan for fundraising and implementation. Then he followed through and delivered. What a wonderful tribute to our local veterans, executed by a young man with a plan!”

Westwood NJ, the Mayor of Westwood Ray Arroyo spoke at length in a Facebook post on the impact of the NJDEP Blue Acres Program on the tax base of the municipality .
The NJDEP Blue Acres Program (within the Green Acres Program) purchases improved residential lots in flood prone areas in cooperation with FEMA and once acquired, removes the structures and improvements from the floodplain.   The project area for surveys may include lands that have already closed or are under contract pending closing.

Westwood Volunteer Fire Department dispatched to a Strip Mall Fire on Kinderkamack Road

Westwood NJ, on Saturday October 22, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire on Kinderkamack road. Chief 15-1 arrived on scene and had smoke showing from the rear of a 1 story strip mall. Engine 1 arrived and stretched a line to the front door of a restaurant and found fire in the kitchen with extension to the cock loft. Crews from Truck 1 laddered the building and immediately went to the roof to open up. Engine 1-2’s crew assisted is stretching a backup line and overhaul. Crews made an aggressive attack to quickly knock down the fire and hold it to the store front of origin.

“Inappropriate Behavior,” Starring Robert De Niro and New Jersey native Bobby Cannavale Shooting in Westwood

Westwood NJ, Hollywood came once again to to Bergen County this week to shoot a movie with some big name actors. Jack’s Cafe in Westwood was a filming locale for an upcoming movie starring Robert De Niro and New Jersey native Bobby Cannavale. The movie, “Inappropriate Behavior,” directed by Tony Goldwyn is a road-trip comedy about a comedian and his son, who has Asperger’s, according to Variety.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Westwood by NJ Transit Train

Westwood NJ, a NJ Transit Pascack Valley Line passenger train headed to Spring Valley, struck and killed a pedestrian at the Jefferson Avenue grade crossing, Westwood on Monday morning, 09/12. No injuries were reported by the train crew or passengers on board. The victim was said to have been an elderly woman who was using a wheeled walker as she entered the crossing. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a hospital based paramedic team. Westwood Police, NJ Transit Police, and the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the tragic incident.

Westwood NJ, Westwood Mayor Ray Arroyo explains how the borough got its reputation as a film friendly town. “NJ.Com recently ranked Westwood the #4 most desirable Bergen County town. We haven’t asked for a recount. We don’t believe we are competing with ANY other town. And apparently, neither does the film industry. We’ve had a number of location scouts rave about Westwood as a visual backdrop and as a “film friendly“ place to work. The Borough issues film permits through the Clerk’s Office. The shoots are coordinated with Westwood Police Department to ensure everyone’s safety should traffic control be needed.”
