Westwood NJ, Wednesday morning at 6:45 am, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a reported dumpster fire in a apartment building complex on Kinderkamack Road. Engine 1 arrived on scene and stretched 1 line to extinguish a well involved dumpster fire. Engine 1-2 was also on scene and assisted with overhaul.
Westwood NJ, on Thursday August 17th, just after 8am, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Mountain Avenue for a reported house fire. Upon arrival of the first due units on scene it was confirmed that there was a fire with smoke coming from the front door. Command then called for a working fire assignment, which dispatches the River Vale Fire Department for a “fast team”. (A fast team is used in the fire service as a stand by crew ready to grab a downed firefighter at a fire scene in case the firefighter becomes injured or trapped).
Westwood NJ, on April 16, 2023, the Westwood Police Department responded to a report of an accident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist at the intersection of Washington and Mountain Avenues. This accident involved very serious injuries suffered by the cyclist, It was a scene that likely will not ever be forgotten by those who responded to render aid. Following the accident, follow ups were made to determine the condition of the cyclist and thoughts and prayers were offered to the young man, whose life appeared to have taken a tragic turn.
Westwood NJ, Kmart is closing its last location in New Jersey . The chain’s Westwood location at 700 Broadway will close in the end of September or early October and already has signs noting that “everything must go” in the windows.
Westwood NJ, four seats up for grabs include two three-year terms and a one-year unexpired term, all representing Washington Township, and another three-year term representing Westwood. Ten people will be running for four seats this November on the board of the Westwood Regional School District. The district serves about 2,800 students from the two towns.
Westwood NJ, Senator Holly Schepisi panned a plan approved by the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) today to begin the electrification of homes and businesses, saying it will lead to overreaching mandates and costly bans of affordable natural gas stoves and appliances.
Westwood NJ, in an effort to reassert the rights of parents , the Westwood Regional School District board has voted to require superintendent approval for classroom discussions of any “controversial issues” not specified in the district curriculum, clamping down on teachers politicizing classrooms but drawing criticism from those who warned that the change will stifle conversations about real-world topics.
Westwood NJ, Westwood Mayor Ray Arroyo says , “Spotted lantern fly nymphs have been reported in Westwood over the past month. You can help us mitigate their presence by constructing a spotted lantern fly circle trap”. Folks if they are spotted in Westwood they are in Bergen County !

Westwood NJ, an 18-year-old driver crashed through a chain link fence and down a stream embankment after losing control of her Tesla sedan at the intersection of Mill Street and 1st Avenue, in Westwood late Tuesday afternoon, 05/23. Neither the driver nor her two (2) male passengers were injured in the mishap. Two (2) tow trucks were involved in recovering the white colored Tesla from its predicament. Westwood Police responded to the incident along with a Hillsdale EMS ambulance.
