The project, praised by the Finance Board for its innovation, will transform vacant property and one of the state’s busiest bus depots into a multimodal transportation hub right in downtown Hackensack, the County Seat. It’s a fact that public transportation provides economic opportunities. Every $1 invested in public transportation generates $5 in economic returns.”

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco announces that the Bergen County Zoo is now home to three electric vehicle charging stations compliments of a new public-private partnership between the County of Bergen and Volta. The three Level-2 electric vehicle charging stations which feature large video displays come at no expense to Bergen County taxpayers and will provide visitors with free vehicle charging for up to two hours.

Glen Rock NJ,  The Division of Veteran Services of Bergen County today hosted the opening of two apartments in newly refurbished supportive housing at 23 Kenmore Place for two formerly homeless and disabled veterans and their children. The day featured 12 community partners who worked with Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, the Bergen County Board of Commissioners, and the Division to fully furnish the apartments.

Police Unions Consolidate at Bergen County Sheriff’s Department

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton, announced today that an agreement has been reached to merge the Bureau of Police Services (formerly the County Police) into the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. The agreement, which was signed on Friday, August 14th, by Sheriff Cureton and the unions representing Bureau of Police Services officers (PBA49) and Sheriff and Correction officers (PBA134), completes the police realignment efforts that began in 2015.

Under the agreement, members of the Bureau of Police Services will become Sheriff Officers and join the ranks of PBA 134, creating one unified police force on the county level. The merger will allow for greater flexibility, improve public safety, and save taxpayers money. All the public safety responsibilities currently assumed by the Bureau of Police Services will continue to be met by the Sheriff Office.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco thanks PSE&G for reimbursing New Jersey customers for spoiled food and medication

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco thanks PSE&G for reimbursing New Jersey customers for spoiled food and medication who went without power for over 72 hours after Tropical Storm Isaias. The move, which PSE&G announced earlier this afternoon, will provide residential customers up to $250 for food spoilage and an additional $300 for medicine spoiled due to lack of refrigeration. Commercial customers are eligible for up to $5000 reimbursement for food spoilage.

County Executive Tedesco asks that all utility companies follow suit and renews his call for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to adopt legislation that makes reimbursement standard practice.

“I would like to thank PSE&G for choosing to take this common sense action that will assist thousands of New Jersey residents at a critical time. This is a great step and I sincerely hope all other utility companies follow suit by putting the priorities of New Jersey residents and businesses first. I am also renewing my call on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to make this show of good will standard practice for future power interruptions,” stated County Executive Jim Tedesco.

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco is calling on PSE&G to reimburse the cost of spoiled food, medication, and perishable commercial merchandise for all New Jersey residents and businesses who lost power for more than 48 consecutive hours due to Tropical Storm Isaias. County Executive Tedesco is also calling on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to adopt legislation that requires utility companies to make this standard practice, putting the priorities of New Jersey residents and businesses first.

COVID-19 Hits Bergen County Budget With Massive Spending and Tax Hike

Hackensack NJ, , Bergen County’s coronavirus outbreak has led to a  31% increase in spending in the county’s 2020 budget, which comes with a 4% tax hike .The county plans to shell out $741,887,685 this year, a $177.7 million increase from last year’s total appropriations. Fortunately most of that amount or $172.7 million is being reimbursed by the federal government, largely with CARES Act money.

Mobile COVID-19 Testing To End in Bergen County

Hackensack NJ,  Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco announces that the final two locations for the Community Mobile Testing Program, which has hosted 39 locations over the last ten weeks, will take place next week with sites in Teaneck and Waldwick. The program has administered over 30,000 tests for COVID-19 and COVID-19 antibodies to county residents free of charge thanks to a partnership between the County of Bergen and Bergen New Bridge Medical Center.

BERGEN COUNTY MOBILE COVID19 PROGRAM, OVER 11,000 RESIDENTS TESTED AND COUNTING

Hackensack NJ,  Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco announces that 11,336 tests have been administered in the first five weeks of community mobile testing across Bergen County. According to results processed by Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, of the 8,147 COVID-19 saliva diagnostic tests and 3,189 COVID-19 antibody tests taken at mobile testing locations, only 2% of the saliva tests and 18% of antibody tests yielded positive results.

Next week, the community mobile testing program, which is available to all county residents thanks to a partnership between the County of Bergen and Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, will deploy to Alpine, Cresskill, Hasbrouck Heights, Mahwah, Palisades Park, Ridgefield, Tenafly, & Wood-Ridge.
