Hackensack University Medical Center Attacker Found Dead

Hackensack NJ, the travel nurse charged with attempted murder after allegedly lighting a Hackensack University Medical Center employee on fire has been found dead, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Authorities said Nicholas Pagano, 31, died by suicide via a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Waterford Township in Camden County, after an active manhunt.

An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer in Charge Captain Darrin DeWitt. On Monday, February 7, 2022, at approximately 5:15 a.m., the Hackensack Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a Hackensack University Medical Center (“HUMC”) employee on a report of an assault at the hospital.
