GLEN ROCK, NJ — A local teen reported a disturbing encounter near Glen Rock High School on May 25, 2025, when he and his friends were allegedly targeted by Airsoft gunfire during a game of spike ball, according to the Glen Rock Police Department.

Glen Rock High School Student Reports “Threat” to Putnam County Schools District Received on Social Media

Glen Rock NJ, on Thursday March 23rd at  08:29 AM the administration at the Glen Rock High School contacted Glen Rock police in regard to a social media threat.  School officials had been approached by a student who reported a threatening message which was received via TikTok.  The threat involved a potential act of violence at a middle school in Putnam County New York.

Glen Rock NJ, on Monday January 23rd at 8:16 PM , the administration at the Glen Rock High School notified police of an incident of bias graffiti which was reported by a student. In this case, the “N”-word was written with highlighter ink on the edge of a desk in the media room. School officials have indicated that they intend to review seating charts and video surveillance footage in an effort to identify the individual involved.

Glen Rock High School Victim of a “Swatting Event”

Glen Rock NJ, on Friday January 27th at 5:27 PM , Glen Rock Police Patrols were dispatched to the Glen Rock High School on a 9-1-1 report that a shooting had just taken place. Responding officers met with school security personnel, who were present for an athletic event at the gym and were unaware of any problem at the school. Officers cleared the school building and determined that this was a swatting incident. There had been no gun shots fired nor any other act of violence.

Second Catalytic Converter Swiped in Glen Rock in a Matter of Days

Glen Rock NJ, on Tuesday November 30th at 1:21 PM , the Director of Security for the Glen Rock Public Schools reported that a catalytic converter had been stolen from a truck belonging to the school district’s Buildings and Grounds Department which was parked behind the Glen Rock High School over the Thanksgiving break.  A review of video surveillance found that the theft occurred on November 25th at 6:40 PM.  The video captured images of two unknown individuals driving up behind the school, one subject used a battery powered saw went under the truck, and quickly cut and removed the catalytic converter from the vehicle.  The video images were not clear enough to record a license plate number.

Swastika Graffiti Discovered at Glen Rock High School on the Eve of Yom Kippur

Glen Rock NJ, on the eve of Yom Kippur a Swastika graffiti was discovered  on a desk at Glen Rock High School  prompting an outcry of concern from local officials . School officials said the swastika was found “etched” onto a desk at the high school on Wednesday morning, and the desk was promptly removed from the classroom and a police report has been filed.

Dear Glen Rock High School Staff, Parents and Guardians:

This letter is to inform you that since our return from Spring Break we had fourteen (14) high school students test positive for COVID-19. Though several of these results occurred over
break, we did receive notice today of an additional ten (10) students with positive tests. With these additional positive cases, Glen Rock High School will transition to remote instruction from
April 7th – April 9th, 2021. The High School will return to in person instruction via the previously
announced three (3) cohort schedule on Monday, April 12th, 2021.

Glen Rock NJ, On January 24th, 2021 Glen Rock Detectives began an investigation into racially biased comments being circulated to Glen Rock High School students via Instagram. Approximately one month later, while the investigation was ongoing, additional information was received from the administration of the Glen Rock High School that questionable comments had been entered in the chat section during a school Zoom session which appeared to target another student over their gender identity.

Glen Rock High School Teacher Test Positive for COVID ,Glen Rock High School and Middle Schools to Go All Remote Learning as of Monday

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock High School will shut down in-person learning for the second time in less than a month after a teacher tested positive for COVID-19.

On Saturday, Superintendent of Schools Brett Charleston in a letter to parents and gradians said both the high and middle schools will close for at least two weeks and shift to remote learning instruction due to the positive test, while fall athletics and other after-school activities will remain unchanged.

Virtual instruction at the schools will run from Nov. 16 to Nov. 25, the letter states.

Racist Graffiti Discovered at Glen Rock High School

Glen Rock NJ, on October 21st, at 8:42 a.m.  the Director of Security for the Glen Rock Public Schools reported finding racist graffiti on the wall of a bathroom at the Glen Rock High School. School officials were alerted to the graffiti after receiving an e-mail from a parent. The Security Director was immediately notified, searched for and located the graffiti in question. The bathroom is for male students and is located on the first-floor science wing, which is used by both middle and high school students. It is unknown when this occurred, and no evidence was recovered. Maintenance personnel were assigned to remove the graffiti.

The Marjorie Vandervoort Vocal Award in the amount of $1,200 was instituted during the 90th Anniversary Season (2017-2018) in honor of Marjorie Vandervoort’s 25 years of service as our Music Director. This award is intended solely for excellence in vocal performance.
