Reader says , “The root of the problem is the failure of our Village Council to distinguish between their Narrow interests and the underlying drivers of value for Village residents”

“The root of the problem is the failure of our Village Council to distinguish between their Narrow interests and the underlying drivers of value for Village residents. Their self-interests are reflections of important aspects of Village business; but however important and useful for Village planning, they should not be used in a self-congratulatory list of “accomplishments” as surrogates for the underlying value of the Council’s work. Genuine value creation fur residents requires a Council culture that compels our Governing body to pursue projects that promise to improve life for all residents, whether it be property tax reduction or paving our third world roads – while not treating their own narrow self-interests (Schedler, Elks HQ, Hudson Garage) as ends in themselves.”

Trenton NJ, Murphy Administration Pushing to Amend NJ’s Law against Discrimination to make violent offenders, including murderers and rapists a protected class.

Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi said yesterday on Facebook ,”I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone. The NJ Division on Civil Rights (the arm of the Governor’s Office) is currently arguing in our Housing Committee meeting that NJ’s Law against Discrimination should be the first in the nation to be amended to make violent offenders, including murderers and rapists a protected class in the State of NJ and that if a landlord refused to rent to such a person because of their criminal background the landlord could be sued under NJ’s Law Against Discrimination , receive attorneys’ fees, penalties, etc. An interesting side note is crime victims in Nj are not provided with the same protections.”

Reader says , “Affordable housing is a noble thing to do but force feeding it into places it does not belong shows the graft and favors being passed out.”

“Courts forcing development on communities that are built out and on environmentally sensitive lands full of threatened and endangered species is really developers owning certain politicians and courts. When re development is used to pave over perfectly good farm ground rather than re build the cities that these laws were suppose to address , you know corruption for profit is a lot of what this game is about. Affordable housing is a noble thing to do but force feeding it into places it does not belong shows the graft and favors being passed out.”

Wayne NJ,  Judge forces over development on Wayne . Judge Thomas Brogan, sitting in state Superior Court in Paterson, ruled that Wayne officials have avoided their responsibility through five-plus years of “bad faith” and “concerted procrastination.”  The court decision  means Wayne  has lost protection from builder’s remedy lawsuits this week after a judge ruled that officials have dragged their feet for too long in their obligation to plan for low-income housing.

Steve Kim from a post of Facebook
Ridgewood NJ, I wrote this back in 2018. The discussion is still relevant. Local issues impact us directly. We need to focus on them as top priority. That can be best done in spring.
Vote NO to November election consolidation. The vote is way back in your ballot on page 3. In November, all local issues get placed way in the back and many are forgotten.
