Lisa’s Mediterranean Cuisine Closes for One Week

91734217 3159929127353569 2259322998660005888 n

Dear friends, family and valued customers,

As many of you know this is the third week we have been adamantly providing meals for our health care workers through our own volition.

However It is time for me to listen to my own kids and follow their advice on staying home. When they told me “we only have one parent, you “is when the severity of the situation hit . They gave me no choice.
Now is not the time to risk anything for the sake of my kids.
We decided to shut Lisa’s Mediterranean cuisine for a week.
Thank you all for your continued support during these tough times.
Please take good care of yourself and others in the midst of this unease
With Love always Lisa’s Mediterranean cuisine

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood restaurant owner Lisa Mayisouglu of Lisa’s Mediterranean Cuisine wanted to help those volunteers on the front line, who are responding to the emergency medical calls during the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Thinking of how she could help, Lisa reached out to Ridgewood Emergency Services Volunteers and offered to prepare dinner for the volunteer EMS crews. “I have the food; our restaurant can only provide take out service now. So I decided to give back and provide a healthy meal for the Volunteers who are away from their families and risking exposure to the virus despite all the precautions that they take”.

Lisa, who has owned her restaurant for 15 years in the Village is taking her efforts even further by organizing other restaurants in the Village to follow suit. Ridgewood Emergency Services Public Information Officer Bob Krane stated “that the Volunteers really appreciate Lisa’s concern and thoughtfulness. A big thank you to Lisa. These are difficult times for all. Just as Lisa is supporting the Volunteers, all residents need to support the local restaurants by ordering take out service.”

Coffee With the Chef: Lisa Mayisoglu of Lisa’s Mediterranean Cuisine, Ridgewood

APRIL 23, 2014    LAST UPDATED: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23, 2014, 12:16 PM
THE RECORD

Lisa’s Mediterranean Cuisine, Ridgewood

In 1985, Lisa Mayisoglu left Ankara with her family and started working in restaurants. Seven years ago, she opened her first Lisa’s Turkish Kitchen in Ridgewood. Her husband died a year later, leaving her to care for their three children alone. Two years ago, with the help of her sister, the 46-year-old chef moved locations and renamed her place Lisa’s Mediterranean Cuisine. The restaurant received three out of four stars from this newspaper. Here, Mayisoglu discusses why Turkish cuisine is good for you, her love for desserts and how she stays thin.

The most difficult dish to make: The dumplings ($18). It’s time-consuming. It’s a little dumpling stuffed with lamb and seasoning, but everything is done from scratch. We never buy anything from the outside. The Turkish kitchen is the most difficult to cook in, ’cause everything is done by hand. I know a lot of restaurants say that, but I know myself that it’s true here.

I make my own: Stock, tomato sauce, tahini, cacik [yogurt mixed with cucumber and seasonings], thick Turkish pita bread. A lot of customers take the bread home.

Turkish cuisine is … Unique. It’s very healthy. It’s Mediterranean. We cook with a lot of nuts, a lot of tomatoes, cucumbers. It doesn’t have a lot of creamy sauces, butter.

Advice for diners: Be happy.
