Utility Pole Snapped after Being Struck Truck on Oak Street in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, A utility pole in the 100 block of Oak Street, Ridgewood was snapped in half on Wednesday morning, 10/21 after being hit by a small, refrigerated box truck. No injuries were reported in the mishap, but damage to PSE&G, Verizon, and Cablevision owned equipment was evident. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Fire Department responded to the incident. Oak Street between Linwood Avenue and Robinson Lane, Ridgewood was closed to facilitate repairs to downed equipment, for what was estimated to be an extended period.

Truck Flips on Route17 Southbound Exit Ramp in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, A fully loaded commercially owned refuse truck flipped on its side while exiting Route 17 southbound to Linwood Avenue westbound, Ridgewood on Wednesday morning, 10/14. The truck’s driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported by a Ridgewood EMS ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. A traffic control sign and utility pole were damaged in the mishap. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, Ridgewood EMS, Paramus Police, Paramus Fire Department, and a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital responded to the incident. A heavy duty tow truck was summoned to right the vehicle and remove it from the roadway. The exit and entrance ramps to Route 17 southbound at Linwood Avenue were closed for an extended period of time to facilitate vehicle removal and debris clean up.

Collision on Franklin Turnpike Sends One to Valley Hospital

Ridgewood NJ, a two (2) vehicle, Saturday afternoon, 09/26, collision in front of 657 Franklin Turnpike, Ridgewood resulted in one (1) bodily injury that required ambulance transportation to The Valley Hospital. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Fire Department responded to the incident. Personnel from Ridgewood Fire Department attended to a crash related fluid spill. One (1) vehicle was towed from the scene.

Driver escapes late Tuesday evening rollover crash in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, an adult male driver of a Subaru SUV escaped without injury during late Tuesday evening, 09/22, rollover crash at the intersection of Linwood Avenue and North Walnut Street, Ridgewood. There were no other occupants in the vehicle when it slammed into a large shade tree. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS responded to the incident. A flatbed tow truck righted and removed the wreck. A Ridgewood Police supervisor at the scene indicated that at least one (1) crash related summons would be issued.

Ridgewood Fire Extinguishes Car Fire on South Broad Street

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire extinguished a passenger vehicle fire in the parking lot of an auto body shop located at 264 South Broad Street, Ridgewood on Friday afternoon, 06/19. No injuries were reported in the conflagration. The vehicle, a 4-door Buick sedan, was totaled. No tow truck was necessary due to the charred remains’ location.

Ridgewood NJ, on Wednesday Ridgewood Fire Department, “B” Shift was called in for a fire in a detached garage in the early morning. Later that day Firefighters from “C” Shift rushed to fire inside of a garbage truck. No injuries were reported at either fire.

UPDATE : Man Killed Falling from a Tree in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, a tragic work related accident claimed the life of a tree service employee who was working at a home near the intersection of Carlton Terrace and Waiku Road, Ridgewood on Thursday morning, 06/04. The victim reportedly fell from a tree, and then had a limb land on top of him while he was on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital. Multiple news media reports identified the victim as a 35-year old male from Bergenfield. Personnel from Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the incident. The victim’s co-workers stood by in shock and disbelief as they watched authorities remove the deceased employee’s body from the scene. The accident’s cause has not yet been made public. No information was made available as to whether OSHA was notified of the sorrowful incident.

Ridgewood NJ, on Wednesday Ridgewood Fire Department “B” Shift using Tower 36  had to remove slate shingles that were falling onto the sidewalk on Broad Street  .  This is the second instance of concerns over falling debris in recent weeks  . No Injuries were reported.

Downed Tree Takes Causes Power and Communication Service Outages in Old Country Club Neighborhood of Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, A downed tree resulted in damage to at least two (2) utility poles and caused electric and communications services outages to many single family homes located in the Old Country Club neighborhood of Ridgewood on Friday evening, 05/15. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services responded to block streets and monitor fallen live electric wires until PSE&G crews were able cut power and restore primary & secondary electric service. Property damage was minimal, with the most serious being a tree limb that damaged a fence before landing in an in-ground swimming pool. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Ridgewood Fire Inspector Uncovers an Unstable Brick Facade on Broad Street

Ridgewood NJ, a Ridgewood Fire Department Fire Inspector performing a routine inspection on Thursday afternoon, 05/14, observed an unstable brick facade on the front of mixed use building located at 18 South Broad Street, Ridgewood. A Ridgewood Police uniformed patrol officer and personnel from Ridgewood Emergency Services assisted Ridgewood firefighters in getting vehicles moved from the street, and cordoning off the sidewalk & parking spaces in front of the damaged building. Front doors to apartments above and the restaurant below were marked with caution tape and signs as being “unsafe.” A construction crew was scheduled to perform demolition and repair work on Friday, 05/15. The building was deemed safe for occupancy by a sub code official from the Village’s Building Department.

Ridgewood East Side Accident Sends Victim to Hackensack University Center Hospital

Ridgewood NJ,  the Ridgewood Police are currently conducting an investigation into the exact circumstances of a Thursday evening, 05/14, single vehicle crash of an SUV on Henrietta Court, Ridgewood, in which the front driver’s side door was almost ripped from the vehicle, and its adult female driver was found lying in the street with serious injuries. The victim was transported by a Ridgewood EMS ambulance to Hackensack University Center’s main campus. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital assisted Ridgewood EMTs with patient evaluation and transport. Washington Township Police also assisted at the scene as did members of Ridgewood Fire Department Engine Company #35.
