Reader calls taxing bags ,”just another money grab”

traditional fish and chips wrapped in newspaper on a pure white background A76AXA

” I was happy with paper bags. Then they put handles on them and I was happier. Then, ‘they’ said that WE WERE destroying the rainforests and plastic bags became the rage – despite their lack of support. Then, supermarkets and Whole Foods-esque places asked ‘paper or plastic?’. Now, it’s plastic bad, paper better, reusable best. Oh, and we’ll tax/charge you to use the first 2 options. I don’t mind being charged by the market for bags, like Ikea would do, I’m not a fan of taxing. It’s just another money grab. Taxing bags is another in a year-long tax-a-thon – bags, rain, salons, signs, leaves (oh, that’s a fine, my bad) gas…on top of the $.23 that Christie adopted, weed. And the list goes on. “

Reader says of Plastic Bag Ban, “This is virtue signaling, par excellence”

This is virtue signaling, par excellence.

Mike Sedon’s a good guy. But he’s dead wrong here.

Bulky paper bags were largely replaced by plastic bags decades ago because of the incredible percentage the paper bags took up of the total volume of landfill space and the fact that as soon as they were covered over with dirt or additonal garbage, they did not degrade at all but were found to be perfectly archeologically preserved, decade after decade. This is due to the total absence of oxygen or sunlight within the landfill heap. From that discovery it was a perfectly logical step to take to replace paper bags with the gossamer-thin plastic bags which, by comparison, now take up a vanishingly small percentage of the total volume of space in modern landfill heaps.

Ridgewood Business Owners and Saddle River Power Couple Host Gala for Saddle River Arts Council

Saddle River NJ, Ridgewood Business Owners and Saddle River Power Couple , Dr. Brooke Rezvani, a cosmetic dentist and her husband Dr. Fred Rezvani, OB-GYN from Saddle River hosted over 200 guests in their lavish home in Saddle River (that by the way is for sale for little under $10 million after several price reductions) in the spirit of giving back. A newly formed 501(c)(3) organization called Saddle River Art Council exceeded all expectations last weekend. Sold out concert by Eric Genuis, an award-wining pianist, composer, and inspirational speaker was a smashing success by all standards. Kudos to ALL involved and to the quests who generously supported this newest Saddle River organization. According to The Wall Street Journal the Rezvani purchased the property for $2.5 million in 2003. The original structure was demolished and the current structure was erected according to Brooke Rezvani. The first attempt to sell the house was undertaken by Sharon Kurtz of Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty. The asking price back in 2012 was $19 million. The declining Home prices experienced in Upper and Saddle River area caused the Rezvanis to cut the asking price almost in half from the original listing.  More about this unprecedented declining real estate trend in 07458 one of the most affluent zip codes in the United States in the upcoming book by Derek Michalski titled: “How to destroy a vibrant NJ community in just 15 months”. Stay tuned. Here is the link to The Wall Street article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-pet-friendly-castle-in-new-jersey-seeks-14-9-million-1439485015
