Ridgewood NJ, RBSA is offering a Fall Recreational Baseball and Softball Season. In this unprecedented year, and with the loss of the spring recreational season, we wanted to offer the kids one last chance to take the field in 2020. Given the short notice and unknown demand, Fall Baseball will be limited to Ridgewood students currently enrolled in first through sixth grade and Fall Softball will be limited to first through eighth grade. Leagues, teams and schedules will be shared as soon as we have a better understanding of the player count. The intention of Fall Ball is a balance between instruction and competition beginning the week of September 14, running through the end of October pending weather and field availability.

NJSIAA Revises Guidelines on Spectators Attending Games

Ridgewood NJ, As it continues addressing challenges unique to the coronavirus pandemic, the NJSIAA today released updated guidelines related to transfers and spectators attending games.

Regarding transfers, while NJSIAA will continue to prohibit students from transferring for athletic advantage, it has modified what it identifies as “athletic advantage.” For the 2020-21 school year, a transfer for athletic advantage will not include a transfer made because the student’s school cancels or postpones an athletic program due to the pandemic. However any student who transfers after September 1, regardless of the reason, will be required to sit for half of the fall season, or 30 days, whichever is shorter. Fuller details on this revision and others related to transfers are available online, HERE .

By  Colleen Maguire, NJSIAA Chief Operating Officer NJSIAA

Ridgewood NJ, During the past five months, the lives of our student-athletes have changed drastically.  Last March, NJSIAA made the difficult decision to shut down high school sports.  That decision was necessary to slow infections and to allow for mitigation efforts to be established.  However, cancelling high school sports has come at a significant cost – the emotional and social well-being of our student-athletes.  We need to return to sports this fall.

Reader says ,”Playing doubles for pickleball differs significantly from tennis doubles”

Pickleball Court Dimensions 1024x576 1

“I am on the Board or work with a number of tennis/pickleball facilities. Playing doubles for pickleball differs significantly from tennis doubles. With pickleball you have the same 4 players, but you’re playing in a space that’s 40% the size of a tennis court. Due to this reduced space it’s common for players to be within 3-5 feet of each other; and while striving to make the next shot, grunt, talk or otherwise project numerous oral and nasal particles into this reduced space placing their fellow players at risk.
In addition to standard safety practices such as bringing and using hand sanitizers, to play pickleball doubles many clubs have adopted the following rules:
1) Wear masks while playing
2) Bring a ball to be used by team 1 and a separate ball to be used by team 2. Team 2 would not use their hands to touch team 1’s ball and vice versa
3) Players sign a waiver stating that they are playing their own risk and hold their fellow players and the club (or whomever owns the facility) harmless.
These rules are easy to follow and meet the goals of all concerned”
