The companion funding ordinances of $42 million and $18.5 million will facilitate borrowing through the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank for the four largest PFAS treatment facilities and the associated raw water mains to connect satellite wells to each treatment facility. These treatment facilities, producing upwards of 11.5 million gallons per day of PFOA and PFOS free water, will be located in Wyckoff, Midland Park and Glen Rock. A total of 10.4 miles of raw water main will be constructed to connect offsite wells to each treatment facility, raising the total amount of wells treated at all four facilities to thirty three. Ridgewood NJ, during the week of May 8th, Ridgewood Water is performing a Fire Hydrant Test at 20 locations throughout the Village of Ridgewood, in cooperation with the Village Fire Department. This test includes a pressure and flow test that could cause a disruption in the normal operations of our distribution system. While unlikely, this test could cause mineral sediment to dislodge and enter our water supply, causing discolored water to flow through faucets and appliances. While discolored water is a nuisance, it does not pose any known adverse health effects.
If you’re looking for a way to improve the quality of your water, you may have considered purchasing a water softener. Water softeners are designed to reduce hardness in water, which can cause scale buildup on plumbing fixtures and appliances. This can be beneficial for both preventing damage from hard water and improving the taste of your drinking supply.

Ridgewood NJ, as part of New Jersey’s legislative mandate to remove all lead service lines (including galvanized iron) by July 2031, water utilities need to determine the material type of every service line in their water system. Ridgewood Water continues its work to determine the service line material for those properties where the material type is currently unknown. We will be utilizing our Vac-Con truck to dig small holes in the right-of-way of properties, allowing us to expose both sides of the valve that connects the main in the street to the service line running to a home or business. We will then document the material type of both the main-to-curb (utility-owned) and curb-to-building (privately owned by homeowner/business) portions.
