Hasbrouck Heights Nj, on Tuesday march 7th , around 4 pm, Hasbrouck Heights Fire Chief 62, Engine 1, and Engine 2 responded to Route 17 North for a motor vehicle accident (MVA) with a vehicle on fire. Members quickly responded and extinguished the fire. EMS attended to one patient on the scene with minor injuries.

Paramus NJ, Barnes & Noble has found a new home closer to Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus to replace the popular store it will be closing this month after 28 years. The announcement came on the companies Facebook page:

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood’s Historic Schedler Property is the only physical barrier protecting an entire Ridgewood neighborhood from the harmful pollutants of Route 17, a major transportation corridor.
The tree and green-filled parcel (7+ acres) filters out light, noise, visual, airborne particulates, gaseous pollutants, and air toxics emitted by nearby diesel truck and motor vehicle activity. Equally important, it protects property values and helps deter crime.

Hackensack NJ, the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the County of Bergen have long concluded that Route 17 from Essex Street in Hackensack to the cloverleaf at Garden State Plaza in Paramus need to be widened in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the area . For most commuters and shoppers living in Bergen County this fact has been obvious for a very long time.

Mahwah NJ, the township of Mahwah has approved a redevelopment plan that reduces its largest affordable housing site surrounding the Mahwah Sheraton on Route 17. The original plan to build an 800-unit multi-housing project with 120 affordable units has been scrapped in favor of one that calls for two warehouses and 74 affordable units on the site of the hotel, which faces demolition. Without these revised agreements, Mahwah taxpayers would most likely have to pay Veolia for additional water capacity, move towards paid fire department and ambulance services, and increase the number of our police officers in the Mahwah force.

Ramsey NJ, a horrific Wednesday afternoon, 12/28, collision on Route 17 northbound in Ramsey, involving two (2) motor vehicles and a pedestrian who was crossing the busy highway when he/she was struck, resulted in the temporary closure of Route 17 in both directions through portions of Allendale, Ramsey, Saddle River, and Upper Saddle River.
The pedestrian sustained life threatening injuries and was rushed by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus. Numerous public safety agencies and the NJDOT responded to the incident. On scene were Ramsey Rescue ,Ramsey, New Jersey Volunteer Fire Department , Upper Saddle River Police, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office , Valley Health System.

Waldwick NJ, an Uber driver who had pulled over on Route 17 to check on a sick passenger was hit by a passing vehicle and hospitalized with injury. Waldwick police Lt. Troy Seifert said the ride-share driver, from Yonkers, was hit about 12:35 a.m. Saturday on Route 17 South prior to the Sheridan Avenue exit in Waldwick.
