Record Editor Uses Child’s Suicide to Push “Rainbow Flag” Talking Points

IWO JIMA FLAG RAISING

May 8,2017

PJ Blogger

Ridgewood NJ, in a recent editorial Alfred P. Doblin , NorthJersey media , ( https://www.northjersey.com/story/opinion/columnists/alfred-doblin/2017/05/07/doblin-its-2017-fly-pride-flag-ridgewood/311938001/ ) attempted to bully the Village council into hanging the “gay pride flag” over the village hall to prove we are an inclusive community .

Mr. Doblin in Ridgewood we are all Americans and the American flag is highest form of inclusion the world has ever known. Sorry if you dont like the American flag .In Ridgewood we are not defined by our race , creed or sexual preferences . Nor are we segregated by it .We are defined by our willingness in invest our energy and debate for our community . We don’t always agree on things , but in the end all the acrimony amounts to the fact that people really care about where they live .

In Ridgewood no one needs to prove anything to anyone , if you want to fly the “pride flag” in your front yard your more than welcome to do so . You see in Ridgewood we respect peoples choices , even if we may or may not agree with them.

However I do take special issue in using a child’s painful suicide as a lame attempt to manipulate pubic opinion . While some would suggest it is desperately “sick” , I will assume you are sadly misguided.

Instead of the focus on flag flying and calling people cowards or racists  I would suggest a change in editorial policy for Bergen Record . If you really want to help the gay community, perhaps embracing  a more aggressive vetting of refugees, might avoid more instances like the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, or the San Bernardino shooting. It would also lift suspicions off of people legitimately coming to our shores in hopes of making a better life.

Or better yet if your looking to raise flags ,there are many Mosques in New Jersey that should as you have suggested for Ridgewood prove they are “inclusive”,  and unfurl the rainbow flag right in front of their welcoming doors .

Ridgewood NJ, On Friday June 9th at 8 p.m. Ridgewood Friends of Music will present a one-of-a-kind benefit concert featuring internationally renowned banjo master Tony Trischka and the locally beloved bluegrass band Blue Plate Special. Surprise guests will join them.

Tony Trischka is one of the most influential banjo artists in the world. His Grammy-nominated album Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular features appearances by banjo luminaries like Steve Martin, Earl Scruggs and Béla Fleck.  In 2007 he was named the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Banjo Player of the Year. His latest album is Great Big World (Rounder Records).  The artist has also been featured on multiple NPR programs like Mountain Stage and A Prairie Home Companion. Blue Plate Special (Jay Friedman, Dave Gross, James Hempfling, Rob Hecht, Dan Whitener and Tom Wise) plays the kind of music that can make you feel like you’re home wherever you are.  A group of infinitely talented musicians and singer-songwriters, Blue Plate Special performs Americana, bluegrass, and swing. Their latest album, Back By Popular Demand (2016) features fourteen original tunes. Thematically eclectic, the songs will take you on a bluegrass-style journey through life, from the depths of a man’s sorrow, to courtship on a rotary phone. The band has a sense of humor as well; one of the catchiest tunes on the album is a waltzy number about the end of the world. Even if you’ve never heard a lick of bluegrass, a night with Blue Plate Special will make you realize this music was in you all along.

“Bluegrass Under the Stars” will take place outdoors at Graydon Pavilion (rain location GW Middle School). All of the proceeds of this event will go to support Ridgewood Public Schools’ music programs grades K-12. Friends of Music funds music assemblies, helps pay for RHS concert venues, provides showcases and master classes for young musicians, lends financial support to the Ridgewood Summer Music Academy and offers a college scholarship to a graduating senior.

Tickets are $25 online and $30 at the door. Bring your own lawn chair.

Concession stand will be open for the show. Age minimum is 14 and over. Online tickets available at bluegrassunderthestars.brownpapertickets.com

FYI :  The transaction fee is included in that $25 price.

Ridgewood NJ, in a recent letter to the editor former Village manager Roberta Sonenfeld looked to undermine the current Village Council on the Village budget . Tony Loving of Ridgewood asked “Doesn’t Ms. Sonenfeld have a formal ethics complaint pending against her? For allegedly using tax revenues inappropriately? And didn’t she resign in a huff? Makes me wonder about both the accuracy and intent of her letter.”

While the idea of a lawsuit was refuted by none other than Jan Philips.Anne LaGrange Loving followed up with some hard evidence “Actually, Jan, yes and yes. For those who are interested in the facts, here are three links to information regarding the ethics violation pending against Ms. Sonenfeld:”

Loving went on , “I was in touch with the complainant yesterday, and indeed the matter is still outstanding. It can take up to two years for resolution of these complaints.

And as far as “resigning in a huff,” we all read the letter of resignation, which was made public, and it was not exactly a friendly lovey-dovey letter of resignation.”

Reader Sees Nothing but Doom for Hudson Garage

PIKE Garage

Unfortunately , despite the fact that the new price tag is significantly less than when the Aronsohn cronies were running the show, this parking garage is still destined to become a financial disaster of major proportions. I predict that parking rates throughout the Village will skyrocket and parking times will be extended in an attempt to raise revenues. This will kill the restaurant business for sure, and maybe even some service businesses and retail stores. Unless the garage is filled to the brim, it won’t even break even. The only way to fill it is to force all commuters there. An operational and financial fiasco in the making. Just you wait and see

Reader predicts the Village council has already decided to move forward on a garage

PIKE garage

My prediction is that the council has already decided to move forward on a garage that will fit on the Hudson space. The new garage proposed offers 240 spaces in total. I believe we have something like 80-90 spaces there now so we are picking up 150-160 additional spaces. Will that solve the parking problem?? of course not. I think it will end up being used as a commuter parking garage which will free up spaces in other lots. Adding another level adds about 60 extra spaces.

4 Tips To Sleep Better During Allergy Season

allergies

May 5,2017
the staff of the Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, Spring is the season of renewal. Plants and trees start to rebound from the harsh winter that claimed most of their leaves and vegetation. Birds return from their Southern vacations, serenade us with their morning songs and rebuild their nests in preparation for new arrivals.

Unfortunately, there is another renewal that many people don’t look forward to in the spring: the return of hay fever season along with symptoms such as sneezing and sniffling that can give you sleepless nights.

In an allergy survey conducted by HayMax (www.haymax.us), 92 percent of respondents said their hay fever symptoms affect their work, school or daily routine, which includes sleep patterns.

“The trick to sleeping well when you suffer from hay fever is to reduce the amount of pollen getting into your body at night,” says Max Wiseberg, creator of HayMax Allergen Barrier Balm.

People can tolerate a certain amount of pollen without reaction, he says, but once this amount is exceeded – called the trigger level – hay fever symptoms start to occur. Stay below this level at night, you won’t get the symptoms and your sleep won’t be affected. Go above it and that’s when the trouble starts.

Wiseberg offers a few tips on how to avoid reaching that trigger level, allowing you to rest easy at night.

  • Keep bedding and fabrics clean. Vacuum the house regularly, especially beds and fabrics, such as bed covers and curtains, to remove pollen, dust and pet allergen particles. Wash bedding regularly to remove allergens and dry them indoors rather than on a clothes line to prevent pollen particles being blown onto them by the wind.
  • Keep the house closed from the outside world. Close windows and use an air conditioner, preferably with a HEPA (High Efficiency Particle Arresting) filter to capture pollen and dust particles, as well as cool and circulate the air.
  • Have a nightly routine before bed.Shower at night before sleeping to remove pollen particles and pet hair from your hair and body. Clear the nasal passages with water, or use a saline nasal spray, to clear pollen from the nose. Finally, apply an allergen barrier balm to the nostrils and around the bones of the eyes to trap pollen, dust and pet allergens before they enter the body.
  • Ensure that pets are well groomed. If you own a pet, shampoo it as much as possible to remove pet allergens and pollen particles, or ban it from the bedroom completely.

“Loss of sleep because of hay fever is very significant, as it can impact how a person functions the next day at school or at work,” Wiseberg says. “The effect of sleep deprivation on productivity and health loses costs companies billions of dollars each year.”

About Max Wiseberg

Max Wiseberg is the creator of HayMax™ (www.haymax.us), a natural, organic balm that traps allergens when applied to the nostrils. As a lifelong hay fever sufferer, he was inspired to develop the balm when other allergy remedies didn’t work for him. Wiseberg, born and raised in Manchester, UK, regularly writes for newspapers, magazines and blogs on the subject of allergies and airborne allergens, and has appeared on TV and radio.

Ridgewood NJ, reader says its been pointed out so many times before ,cottage place lot and other muni lots are like an artillery range of deep potholes…if Parkers fall an break bones and sue town for outright neglect..completely mill and repave and
repaint stall lines for all of those lots.people don’t see those lots as safe and useable.Impossible to shovel and plow those surfaces to any degree of safety..they are ice fields and broken unsafe utilities…shackle and spit
Fill never worked and was a waste of towns money.
