Ridgewood NJ, Grab and Go parking spaces, which provide for 15 minutes of free parking in the Central Business District, are off of East Ridgewood Avenue, on Oak Street, Chestnut Street, South Broad Street, and Prospect Street. These spaces, which are sponsored by local establishments and various residents, are helpful for a quick errand or for picking up a food order at a restaurant. After the 15 minutes have expired, the driver must move their car or a summons may be issued. The Grab and Go parking spaces will be removed as of September 30, 2022, with new parking guidelines beginning in October. More information on the new parking guidelines will be explained in a future E-Notice.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire extinguished a passenger vehicle fire in the parking lot of an auto body shop located at 264 South Broad Street, Ridgewood on Friday afternoon, 06/19. No injuries were reported in the conflagration. The vehicle, a 4-door Buick sedan, was totaled. No tow truck was necessary due to the charred remains’ location.
Ridgewood NJ, An unoccupied van owned by Village Taxi of Ridgewood was completely destroyed by fire on Friday morning, 08/17. Ridgewood Fire Department Engine Company #35 extinguished the South Broad Street, Ridgewood blaze after responding to multiple 911 phone calls reporting the conflagration. Several other vehicles parked next to the van were damaged by flames, intense heat, and heavy black smoke.
Ridgewood NJ, Despite objections voiced by local residents to Ridgewood Village Manager Heather Mailander, and to members of the Ridgewood Village Council, heavily loaded tandem axle dump trucks are being permitted to use portions of South Broad Street that are primarily residential as a travel route to and from the former Brogan Cadillac site, which is now undergoing demolition in preparation for the start of high density housing construction. The Village had considered the temporary removal of a speed hump in order to reduce the likelihood of noise and foundation damaging vibrations, but as these photos (taken on 06/28) indicate, that did not happen.
Ridgewood NJ, Village Council members are now considering approval of a Soil Movement Permit in connection with construction work on the Dayton housing project, located at the old Brogan Cadillac site on South Broad Street.
During Wednesday evening’s Village Council Work Session, Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser informed Council members that current plans call for approximately 400 large dump trucks full of soil to use a route which would require them all to exit the site and head southbound on South Broad Street into Glen Rock.
Citizen concerns were expressed as to the appropriateness of directing 400 large dump trucks full of dirt directly into a neighborhood consisting mostly of single family residences, along a primary walking route to and from the Orchard Elementary School, and into neighboring Glen Rock. Mayor Susan Knudsen indicated that given the aforementioned concerns, alternative routes would be reviewed and considered.
The Council is scheduled to formally vote on the Permit during a public meeting next Wednesday evening, November 8th.

RIDGEWOOD — Two down, two to go.
After a literal 11th-hour change to the site plan, the Ridgewood Planning Board approved the application for an apartment complex on South Broad Street at the old Brogan Cadillac site.
The project, known as The Dayton, is one of four multifamily housing applications filed in the wake of a master plan amendment that rezoned areas of downtown Ridgewood for multifamily housing.
RIDGEWOOD — Public hearings are winding down on two more applications for multifamily housing projects proposed for the village’s downtown. If approved, the developments could bring great change to the bustling business district.
A 43-unit apartment complex with affordable housing units mixed in has already been approved on Chestnut Street at the site of an old MVC inspection station. Two more — a mixed-use 66-unit project at the former Ken Smith Motors site on Franklin Avenue; and The Dayton, a 93-unit residential building slated for the Brogan Cadillac property on South Broad Street — are nearing their conclusion.
