Village of Ridgewood : FLAG AT HALF-STAFF – MAY 16TH, 2016

half mast flag

May 16,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, In  accordance with Flag Code section 7(m), the United States flag is to be displayed at half-staff for the entire day in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, Sunday, May 15, 2016.

Customary Dates to Fly Half-Staff

Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15th, unless that day is also Armed Forces Day. (sunrise to sunset)

Memorial Day, last Monday in May (sunrise to noon)

Patriot Day, September 11th (sunrise to sunset)

National Firefighters Memorial Day, October (typically a Sunday during Fire Prevention Week, which is around Oct. 9, and along with a memorial service held in Emmitsburg, MD)

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, December 7th (sunrise to sunset)

Other Special Flag-Flying Days

President’s Day, third Monday in February: a celebration that takes place between Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays. It is not a half-staff day.

Flag Day, June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which was by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

Veteran’s Day (formerly Armistice Day), November 11th: This is a day to honor our nation’s veterans. It is not a day of mourning, but a day of celebration and honor. Therefore, it is   not a day of half-staff. Citizens are encouraged to fly POW/MIA flags and flags of the military branches on this day to show support to our Veterans.

National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, July 27 of each year: This day marks the anniversary of the signing of a treaty that ended the Korean War. From 2000 until 2003 (during 50th anniversary years) this was a half-staff day. Each year since the proclamation only acts to “encourage the display of the flag”. This is a day for special remembrance of the veterans of the Korean War, and especially the United States and allied combatants who made the ultimate sacrifice in Korea.

Reader says Best of luck to the new Council – please remember the grass roots organizations that helped get you elected

VillageHall_floods_theridgewoodblog

Congratulations to the winners and condolences to the losers. In the end, I’m not even sure that Mr. Weitz and Ms. Willet even wanted to be in the race. Mr. Brooks is a nice guy and a good neighbor. He campaigned hard but was just on the wrong side. Next up: Revoke the Pfund ordinance the afternoon the new Council is inaugurated. Valley – fight the lawsuit and sue them to revoke their non-profit status in town. The $4.5 million that their Linwood Ave campus will generate in taxes will pay a lot of legal bills. Apartments – 18 units per acre seems reasonable. If developers can’t make it work with a 50% increase over what’s been on the books for decades that shouldn’t be the residents’ problem. And if they sue us, so be it. Garage – how about a nice 2 or 3 level commuter lot? Keep it small enough so that no developer can incorporate it into his plans for oversized apartment buildings. Schedler – outside of the RBSA brass, I haven’t heard any support for a baseball field there. Plus what’s the hurry to cut down all the trees? Best of luck to the new Council – please remember the grass roots organizations that helped get you elected.

Pivotal Village Council Election Day Today

Vote Ridgewood

May 10,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, in case you have been out of the country ,Village Council Election day ,the polls are open from 6 A.M. to 8 P.M.

This is a pivotal for the future of the Village of Ridgewood .

Weitz Willet and Brooks signed the Paul Vaggianos development pledge , which is a continuation of current  movement to turn Ridgewood into Union city . And signifies they will be working for special interests instead of the residents of Ridgewood .

Weitz  has never voted , or been to a council meeting because he is “busy”.

Willets husband moved to Florida with out her.

Weitz Willet and Brooks are backed by the current council majority (3 amigos), developers and Progress Ridgewood the pro development group ie double the size of Valley hospital  ,build ,build ,build .

CRR, CBR and Preserve Graydon groups as well at the Ridgewood Chinese American Association all endorsed Voigt ,Hache, and Walsh .

Most importantly Walsh, Voigt and Hache all understand the unique nature of what Ridgewood is all about unlike the current council majority ,who think Ridgewood is a small Union city waiting to happen. https://theridgewoodblog.net/the-ridgewood-blog-endorses-jeff-voigt-bernie-walsh-and-ramon-hache-for-village-of-ridgewood-council/

Today Ridgewood Village Council Election Day

VOTE_theridgewoodblog

Dear Nattering nabobs of negativism,

This is a reminder that tomorrow is Election Day for three seats on the Village Council.  The polls are open from 6 A.M. to 8 P.M.  As is customary, we will be running our Senior Citizen bus so if you need a ride to your voting place, please contact Beth Spinato (201-670-5500, ext. 203).

If you have any questions about voting, including the location of your polling place, please contact our Village Clerk’s Office at 201-670-5500, ext 201 or email Heather Mailander at hmailander@ridgewoodnj.net or Donna Jackson at djackson@ridgewoodnj.net.

Local elections generally generate very low voter turnout, historically less than 20%. This is despite the fact that local governments in certain ways have a more profound impact on our day to day lives than national government; we as residents should make sure that our voices are heard.

“Voting is the right upon which all other rights depend.” – Thomas Paine

My wholehearted support for three candidates for Ridgewood Village Council – Ramon Hache, Jeff Voigt, and Bernadette Walsh

Vote Ridgewood

To the MANY  taxpaying citizens who read The Blog,

I am writing this letter to announce my wholehearted support for three candidates for Village Council – Ramon Hache, Jeff Voigt, and Bernadette Walsh. Each of these candidates is an independent thinker, and each is truly dedicated to improving the Village of Ridgewood without ruining it.  They are informed and involved.  They are intelligent and reasonable individuals.  As a regular attendee at Village Council meetings, as well as being involved in other village governance activities, I have come to know them well and trust them completely.  They will work with the two Village Council members whose terms are continuing, and we will once again have discussions instead of diatribes, and votes on important matters will no longer be in the form of a 3-person bloc on every single issue.  There will no longer be bullying of citizens by elected officials from the dais and outside of Village Hall, no more bullying behavior at “safe harbor” places like church and in restaurants.  I encourage everyone to vote on May 10, and to cast your votes for Hache, Voigt, and Walsh.  We deserve a change for the better.

I am voting for Jeffrey Voigt, Bernadette Coghlan-Walsh, and Ramon M. Hache they will exercise independent judgement in the best interest of Village residents

Vote Ridgewood

To the Editor:

I was relieved when three members of our Village Council decided not to run for another term, hoping that we would finally see a change from the consistent voting bloc and divisiveness that has occurred for the past four years within the Council.  Now we have six new candidates, but three are already calling themselves “a team”.  Should we be encouraged to vote for them and endure another 4 years of sniping within our council? Are we continuing the pattern of “our side vs. theirs?”

I am voting for Jeffrey Voigt, Bernadette Coghlan-Walsh, and Ramon M. Hache.  They are NOT a team, but rather will exercise independent judgement always in the best interest of Village residents.  They probably will not agree on every issue, but they are dedicated to community engagement that allows residents a voice in their future.  And most critically, these candidates share the concerns of many Village residents that growth and progress be balanced with preserving the character, size and scale of our Village.

The election is May 10…every vote makes a difference!

Reader reports unwanted Ridgewood Council Candidate Brooks, Weitz and Willett “Robo” call blitz

362319-robocall

The robo phone calls blitz starts. Got a robo message on answering machine tonight from R.Brooks saying to vote for him, Weitz and other for council, and that he paid for this message. Caller I.D. says 201-345-4962 Ridgewood, NJ.. Report call as Spam. Following same tactics as someone else we all know who’s used robo calls, signs in CBD planters to vote yes for garage, signs in tree wells. I will Not vote for them.

Rather, I am voting for the candidates who will put Ridgewood and the residents in their best interest – Voigt, Walsh and Hache. Matter of fact, concerned citizens and supporters of Voigt, Walsh and Hache, went respectfully door to door in neighborhoods today with flyers to remind people to vote on May 10th. Thank you, well received.

Ridgewood News Drops Key Election Eve Coverage on Ridgewood Council Elections

Reading_theridgewood_news_theridgewoodblog
Editors Note : Folks the Ridgewood blog would welcome the opportunity to host any letters in support of candidates ,even on election day it self ; email onlyonesmallvoice@gmail.com Fyi the blog traffic nears 20,000 unique visits per month thank you

Ridgewood Nj, Ridgewood News squashes story garage petition, certification and special election, days before pivotal Village Council election.

From the Facebook page It Takes a Village , “Before you read the Ridgewood News tmrw, please know this-We, Lorraine and I, were interviewed by a smart, new reporter recently employed by the Ridgewood News who was excited to report our side of the story on the garage petition, certification and special election. We had an hour long conversation and she even was speaking to our attorney to share her response. The reporter called me today to apologize and tell me they will not be printing the article due to “space constraints”. Maybe next week she said. I told her we know it was not her decision, and encouraged her to find a new job at a real newspaper. I have cancelled my subscription.”  , Gail McLaughlin McCarthyIt is also being reported that Janice Willet’s campaign manager is a long time employee of the North Bergen Media Group (who owns the Ridgewood News), Pam Wyne. Big surprise.!The inequity of the media coverage in our area is disgraceful. I hope everyone cancels their subscriptions to all of their publications immediately and sends them the message loud and clear that we do not tolerate bias in our journalism, period. Laurie Bender

If you do a quick search on line there are many instances of this-bias newspapers are part of our culture and are protected-they can turn ads away all they want if they don’t adhere to the publishers bias-and of course editorial content is under their discretion. The real problem is that ALL our local news outlets are owned by the same people-this is an issue worth examining. Ellen D’Arcy Simpson

We have already reported that the Ridgewood News decided not to print any letters to the editor in support of candidates on the eve of the election yet felt in necessary to post pro Village manager commentary and advertising.
