Route 17 Temporarily Closed to Address Downed Live Power Lines in Waldwick

Waldwick NJ, the Waldwick Fire Department was dispatched to live wires down and on fire at Rt 17 and Grove St. The situation caused the highway to be shutdown in both directions. In addition there was a snapped utility pole with a transformer up against a parked car and a nearby tree had also fell blocking Hudson Ave. Waldwick Fire Department stayed on scene for several hours assisting the DOT in repairing the damaged highway which occurred from the wires burning in the road. Engine 631 stretched two lines to cool the road surface. At the time the Waldwick Fire Department cautioned all residents not to approach downed wires as they maybe live and you run the possibility of electrocution.

Car Plows into Waldwick Dry Cleaners

Waldwick NJ, No injuries were reported in connection with an early Monday afternoon, 06/01, vehicle vs. structure crash at 30A Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick. Waldwick Police and Waldwick Fire Department responded to the incident in which the adult female driver of a passenger vehicle accidentally crashed into a storefront. A building inspector assessed damage as minimal and permitted affected businesses to continue operating. The vehicle also sustained only minor damage and was driven from the scene.

At least three (3) victims were transported to area hospitals; one reportedly sustained critical injuries after Route 17 Crash in Waldwick

Waldwick NJ, Waldwick Police, Waldwick EMS, Waldwick Fire Department, and hospital based ALS & BLS units responded to aid the victims of a Saturday evening, 03/28, single vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound at Summit Avenue, Waldwick. At least three (3) victims were transported to area hospitals; one (1) victim reportedly sustained critical injuries. Traffic on Route 17 southbound was restricted while emergency crews worked at the scene. The 4-door sedan involved in the crash apparently spun out on the wet roadway surface and crashed into a retaining wall of a nearby single family home. Firefighters had to extricate one (1) victim from the wrecked vehicle. A tow truck removed the heavily damaged sedan from the scene.

Franklin Lakes NJ, according to North Jersey media ,Franklin Lakes police suspect an unidentified person started a fire at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church early Wednesday morning.

Waldwick House Fire Quickly Extinguished

Waldwick NJ, all Waldwick, NJ Volunteer Fire Department units responded to a residential structure fire in a home on Lincoln Place. Chief Mike Ferrara arrived and found an active fire on the second floor. Chief Ferrara called for a 2nd alarm bringing Midland Park, HoHoKus, Saddle River, Wyckoff, Ramsey and Mahwah Fire Departments to the scene with Upper Saddle River Fire Department on standby. Waldwick, NJ Volunteer Fire Department units made an interior attack extinguishing the Fire very quickly. We would like to thank our mutual aid companies for their assistance.

Wednesday Morning Rollover 17 Southbound in Waldwick

Waldwick NJ, according to the Northwest Bergen Mutual Aid Association this morning at 6:15 am the Waldwick Fire Department was dispatched to a reported rollover on Route 17 southbound. Chief Mike Ferrara arrived to find a car on its side against the bridge that spans over Sheridan Avenue. There were many motorists that had stopped to assist and were holding up the car to prevent it from rolling back over. Chief Ferrara ordered the Rescue Jacks off Rescue 642 to be placed into service immediately to secure the vehicle. Meanwhile the crew from Squad 634 assisted in putting the Hurst tools into service to free the victim who was trapped in the vehicle. With multiple tools working the victim was freed from the car very quickly and was treated by an ALS & BLS unit from the Valley Hospital. An excellent job by all who responded.

Midland Park NJ,  A 2-alarm Tuesday afternoon, 12/18, fire heavily damaged a building housing a first floor beauty salon in the 200 block of Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Midland Park Fire Department was assisted by Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department, Waldwick Fire Department, and Wyckoff Fire Department at the scene. No injuries were reported in the blaze. Mildand Park Police and Midland Park EMS also responded. Wyckoff Police assisted with traffic control

Van Slams into Auto Repair Facility on Crescent Avenue in Waldwick

Waldwick NJ, A work van owned by a heating/air conditioning contractor slammed into a gas station/auto repair facility located at 11 Crescent Avenue, Waldwick on Monday morning, 10/15. Waldwick Fire Department and Wyckoff Fire Department personnel worked to stabilize the building after the vehicle was removed by a flatbed tow truck. The extent of injuries to the van’s occupants and/or employees of the facility was unknown. Waldwick Police officers detoured northbound traffic on Crescent Avenue away from the scene while emergency crews worked.

Lightning Strikes Home on Hillcrest Road in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, Lightning struck a 3-story single family home on Hillcrest Road in Ridgewood during a late Tuesday afternoon, 07/03, thunderstorm, igniting an intense fire inside of the structure’s third floor. Ridgewood firefighters extinguished the blaze within 50 minutes of arriving on location. Firefighters from Waldwick Fire Department , Glen Rock Fire Department , and Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department assisted Ridgewood Fire Department  at the scene. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood EMS, and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel also responded to the incident. Three (3) dogs were reported to have been inside of the residence when the fire started; their current location/condition is unknown. A team of commercial house painters working at the home when the lightning bolt struck escaped injury.

Bathroom Fire Causes Ho-Ho-Kus Public School Evacuation

Ho Ho Kus NJ, A smokey fire that began in a bathroom forced the complete evacuation of the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Tuesday afternoon, 05/29. Ho-Ho-Kus Police officers used hand held extinguishers and contained the fire prior to the arrival of Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department and Waldwick Fire Department firefighters. Due to high heat conditions, two (2) ambulances were dispatched to the scene as firefighters worked to ventilate the structure. No injuries were reported in the incident and some students were observed re-entering the building within 30 minutes of the fire alarms sounding. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Waldwick NJ, Waldwick Fire Department and Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department personnel extinguished a vehicle fire on Route 17 northbound near Manhattan Avenue in Waldwick on Monday morning, 04/16. Northbound traffic on Route 17 was backed up for miles due to the closure of multiple travel lanes while firefighters worked. Waldwick PD and Ho-Ho-Kus PD officers were also on the scene. The charred vehicle was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.

Waldwick NJ, A Thursday afternoon, 10/26 Waldwick fire that reportedly originated in an outdoor barbecue resulted in one (1) person sustaining minor burns and required the response of Waldwick Fire Department  personnel to extinguish. Minor fire related damage was reported to the exterior of a single family home located on Charles Terrace, Waldwick resultant from the fire. Waldwick EMS transported the burn victim to The Valley Hospital for treatment. Waldwick Police also responded.
