Wyckoff NJ, Wyckoff parents breath a sigh of relief .The Wyckoff school district announced the Brian Faehndrich, currently an Assistant Principal at Wayne Valley High School, will be the new principal at Eisenhower Middle School for next school year. Wyckoff suspended Eisenhower Middle School Principal Christopher Iasiello will get a holiday at taxpayers expense . The Wyckoff Board of Education gave Iasiello a year’s paid leave of absence was granted in return for his resignation.

Elmwood Park NJ, an Infiniti SUV crashed through the storefront of an Elmwood Park furniture store shortly after 8:30 PM on Saturday, 03/19, and finally came to a stop once all 4 wheels of the vehicle were firmly on the store’s showroom floor. The vehicle’s adult female driver was uninjured, as were several store employees and customers who were inside at the time. Elmwood Park Police and Elmwood Park Fire Department personnel & vehicles responded to the incident, which occurred in the 100 block of Broadway, Elmwood Park. Damage was limited to the store’s glass & aluminum façade. A tow truck driver backed the vehicle out of the store to facilitate its removal from the scene by his flatbed. No word at the scene as to what may have triggered the mishap.

Newark NJ, on Wednesday March 16th the US Senate Voted to end airline mask mandates. The proper policy is let each airline decide for itself whether it wants to require passengers to wear masks. Then flyers can choose for themselves whether they want to book flights on planes that either do or don’t require masks The market works. That is how Senator Rand Paul sees it as well. He brought an amendment to the floor yesterday ending federal masks requirements on planes. It passed 57-40.

River Edge NJ, Friday’s Fare from Historic New Bridge Landing is Peach Ice Cream . Thomas Jefferson, enamored with French cooking, brought one back along with the recipe from his stint as US Ambassador to France. A sabotiere is a copper cylinder can with a handle placed in a bucket of salted ice. First, a [French] custard of eggs, cream and sugar is cooked the day before. A flavoring is then added in. Some flavors back then were oyster, parmesan cheese and orange blossom. We added in chopped peaches, preserved from last year. The cooked custard is left to cool overnight in a spring house [in the fridge]. The sabotiere is placed in a bucket of ice with salt, and then is 1/3 filled with custard. It sits to get the metal cold, then is turned 10 times, the inside is scraped down to move the more frozen custard to the center and stirred, then turned 10x; repeating this procedure until the contents have thickened. It takes awhile, and does not get rock hard like today’s confection. It’s more like a very stiff cold custard. FYI – French ice cream has eggs, whereas American generally does not. A special treat from last month’s General Washington’s birthday celebration was making ice cream using a sabotiere. Our ad hoc version gave our young visitors a hand at turning it, as they counted the 10 turns. There were so many, they were it turning all day and had fun. https://www.bergencountyhistory.org/
