Amazon Calls Grocery Business an ‘expensive hobby’

Ridgewood NJ, despite spending billions on developing services and technologies to become a grocery market giant, Amazon is still just a niche player in the industry. Its delivery services have failed to stand out in a crowded field and its Go automated convenience stores have been deprioritized. The technology Amazon implemented in its stores was novel, but it didn’t add any value to the shopping experience. Groceries were not a big topic on Amazon’s fourth-quarter results call earlier this month.

Dog Walker Struck in Ridgewood’s Central Business District

Ridgewood NJ, yesterday it was reported that a dog walker crossing Broad Street in the Central Business District was hit  by a vehicle and taken to  St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson.  Sadly the dog did not make it . Over the years the Ridgewood blog has reported numerous similar instances .

NJDEP : Water Systems Required to Replace all Lead Water Service Lines in their Service Area by 2031

Ridgewood  NJ, yesterday February 21st was the cut day to be notified if your water was being delivered to your residence via lead pipes. According to the NJDEP website, water systems in NJ are required to notify residents, non-paying consumers (e.g., a renter not responsible for the water bill), and any off-site owner of a property (e.g., landlord) when it is known they are served by a lead service line no later than February 21, 2022. Water systems will also be required to replace all lead service lines in their service area by 2031.

Camera Stolen From Maple Avenue Home in Glen Rock

Glen Rock NJ, on Thursday February 17th at 6:32 PM Glen Rock Police Patrols were dispatched to a residential burglary report on the 500 block of Maple Avenue.  Investigation found that the home, which was not occupied and the subject of an estate sale, had been entered via a basement door which was forced open. The only item reported stolen was a camera. The scene was processed by Crime Scene Investigators from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department BCI. Glen Rock Detectives have recovered video surveillance footage from the area and the investigation is ongoing.

Hermès Bag Missing from Delivery Box of Glen Rock Customer

Glen Rock NJ, on Friday February 02-18-2022 at 9:57 AM ,a Glen Rock resident reported that a package which was delivered to their home by the US Postal Service was missing a Hermès Her-bag, valued at $2,800, which it should have contained. Inspection of the package found that the bottom of the box had been cut opened and then taped over. The matter is currently under review and will most likely be transferred to the US Postal Inspection Service for further investigation.

Upper Saddle River NJ, the Borough of Upper Saddle River has joined the growing chorus of New Jersey towns hit by rampant car thefts . Like other Bergen towns  , key fobs left in unlocked cars are blamed for a “dramatic increase” in vehicle burglaries and thefts in the past year.

Traffic on Route 4 Westbound was Backed up for Miles after Crash Left Minivan on Top of a Pickup Truck in Paramus

Paramus NJ, Paramus Police reported that three (3) persons were injured in a horrific two (2) vehicle, Monday morning, 02/21, collision on Route 4 westbound near Fairview Avenue, Paramus. A Ford pickup truck apparently rear ended a Toyota minivan, sending the minivan off of the roadway sideways into a utility pole, with one of the vehicles winding up on top of the other. A fire hydrant was also a casualty of the incident. Paramus Fire Department , Paramus Police, Paramus EMS, and Paramus Rescue Squad personnel and equipment responded to the incident. Needless to say, both vehicles were towed from the scene. The right lane on route 4 west under the Fairview Avenue overpass was closed .Traffic on Route 4 westbound was backed up for miles as a result of the crash.

Ridgewood Police Department Investigate Suspicious fire on Sunday Evening off of Crest Road

Ridgewood NJ, members of the Bergen County Arson Squad assisted detectives and patrol officers of Ridgewood Police Department investigate an outdoor fire believed to have been intentionally set on Sunday evening, 02/20. The fire, in the 200 block of Crest Road, Ridgewood, was reported via 911 by a nearby resident. There were no known fire related injuries, and minimal damage was caused to a heavily wooded area. Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification personnel collected evidence at the scene.

The YMCA will be leaving its Main Street Location in Hackensack after 90 years

Hackensack NJ, the Greater Bergen County YMCA, a branch of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges located at 360 Main St. in Hackensack, is under contract for sale with a development partner. While the Y will be relocating many of its programs and services effective March 31, 2022, it will continue to operate its School Age Child Care programs in Hackensack schools.
