Miami Launches ‘MiamiCoin’ to Fund the Police

Miami FL, the City of Miami has launched its own cryptocurrency called MiamiCoin. Revenue from the coin will be diverted to the city treasury. Mining the coin is less energy-intensive and less difficult than mining Bitcoin or Ethereum.iami Mayor Francis Suarez recently announced that the city of Miami will launch its own cryptocurrency called MiamiCoin (MIA). Starting this week, MiamiCoin mining is ready to be activated. Traders can trade, buy or sell the coin on California-based crypto exchange Okcoin, according to CityCoins.  The Miami government will have its own wallet and a portion of the coins mined will end up in that wallet to be used to improve the city. Speculators can purchase the coin on exchanges, which will ideally raise the value of the coin. The project aims to incentivize stakeholders to participate in the city’s success. The Village of Ridgewood should give this a thought to fund the Hudson Garage .

Warning: Phishing Emails Impersonate NJ MVC

Phishing emails are being sent to New Jersey state employees and the public regarding driver’s license updates, similar to recently circulated SMS text scams. These messages claim that the recipient needs to update their information with the Social Security Administration to avoid suspension of their license. These phishing email includes a link that, if clicked, directs the user to a malicious website that appears to be a French news site. The website is now identified as malicious by a number of anti-virus programs; however, new websites  – as well as different sender emails and subject lines – may be used in subsequent phishing campaigns. Email and text-based phishing messages impersonating the MVC may be targeting New Jersey residents in part due to the rollout of REAL ID.

Camden NJ,  two Indian nationals today admitted to conspiracy to commit wire fraud by accepting illegally obtained wire transfers from victims across the country totaling over $600,000, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced.

Zeeshan Khan, 22, and Maaz Ahmed Shamsi, 24, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joseph Rodriguez in Camden federal court to an information charging each with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Brick NJ, a local youth wrestling coach was arrested today on a charge of receipt and distribution of child pornography, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced today.

Alec Donovan, 24, of Brick, New Jersey, is charged by complaint with receipt and distribution of child pornography. He appeared by videoconference before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor and was released on $100,000 unsecured bond.

Despite a recent recommendation by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that all people in Bergen County, including those fully vaccinated, wear face coverings/masks indoors, in public places, no members of the Ridgewood Village Council, nor anyone else on the dais, were observed wearing face coverings/ masks during their Public Work Session, held on Wednesday, August 4.

Emergency Responders Representing Several Municipalities Provide Aid for Fair Lawn-Hawthorne border Rollover Crash

Fair Lawn NJ, a late Wednesday afternoon, 08/04, rollover crash with entrapment in the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue, directly on the Fair Lawn-Hawthorne border, triggered a turnout of emergency responders representing several municipalities. The lone occupant of the rolled over vehicle, its adult female driver, was extricated by Fair Lawn Fire Department and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue members and transported to a nearby hospital by members of the Hawthorne Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Her injuries appeared to have been non life threatening in nature. Fair Lawn Police, Glen Rock Police, and Hawthorne Police officers also responded to the mishap. Traffic on Lincoln Avenue between Harristown Road and Loretto Avenue was diverted while emergency crews worked.

Morristown NJ,  in a new research report  New Jersey’s Energy Future: At What Cost to You? issued today, the Garden State Initiative offers an independent review of New Jersey’s Energy Master Plan (EMP). Since the EMP was released in January 2020, the details of the plan have largely eluded public scrutiny as portions have moved towards implementation.  The report, which continues GSI’s commitment to independent analysis of how government can most effectively serve the public, provides an overview of what is, and more importantly, what is not in the plan, and recommends area residents demand more information from the Murphy Administration and the state’s Board of Public Utilities.
