Commodity Futures Trading Commission Sues Binance and cofounder Changpeng Zhao for Trading Rule Violations

Ridgewood NJ, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission  announced it has filed a civil enforcement action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois charging Changpeng Zhao and three entities that operate the Binance platform with numerous violations of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) and CFTC regulations. The complaint also charges Samuel Lim, Binance’s former chief compliance officer, with aiding and abetting Binance’s violations.

The DEP is also expanding its multimedia “Know the Bear Facts” outreach campaign to enhance information on ways for property owners and outdoor enthusiasts to stay safe throughout the year.

Dumont Volunteer Ambulance Struck by Motorist while on Call

Dumont NJ, on a Sunday earlier this month , the driver Side door of one of a Dumont Volunteer Ambulance Corps ambulance was struck by a motorist as one of our EMTs was exiting the vehicle after arriving on scene. Consequently, a second of their ambulances had to be called into service to transport the patient, and then another 9-1-1 was dispatched shortly thereafter with their primary rig going out of service.

Closter NJ, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating a crash involving a pedestrian that occurred in the area of Durie Avenue and Legion Place in Closter, NJ, on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m. The investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Closter Police Department under the direction of Chief Jack McTigue.

Doc Walk Celebrates the life of Ridgewood’s Dr. Sheeraz Iqbal

Ridgewood NJ, the Doc Walk was held on March 25 at the Duck Pond in Ridgewood .  The Doc Walk was created to celebrate the life of Ridgewood’s Dr. Sheeraz Iqbal who after a long battle with cancer passed away .on Wednesday December 21st at 46 .Dr.  Iqbal specialized in Pediatrics. Dr. Iqbal is  and was affiliated with The Valley Hospital. “Doc” Iqbal, will be remembered as a legend of “The Dads’ Night Band” .

NJ Attorney General Seizes Control of the Paterson Police Department

Paterson NJ,  Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin today announced that his Office is superseding the Paterson Police Department, and assuming control of all police functions, including internal affairs investigations, effective immediately. Isa Abbassi, a twenty-five-year veteran of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and its current Chief of Strategic Initiatives, will become the Officer-in-Charge of the Paterson Police Department in May, having been appointed to that position by Attorney General Platkin. In the interim, command of the department will be assumed by key members of the Attorney General’s staff and leaders from within the New Jersey State Police (NJSP).

Truck Crash Takes Out Utility Pole and Closes Paramus Road

Paramus NJ, Paramus Road in Paramus was closed in both directions between West Ridgewood Avenue and West Midland Avenue for an extended period on Monday, 03/27. The closure was resultant from a crash in which a pickup truck severed a utility pole across from the Paramus Food Center at approximately 0830 hours. The pickup truck’s driver was uninjured; however, his truck was totaled and removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Paramus Police responded along with crews from PSE&G’s Electric Division.

Ridgewood NJ, Legendary technologist and philanthropist Gordon Moore passed away Friday at his Hawaii home at the age of 94 from natural causes, according to a family representative.  Gordon Moore was an American engineer and entrepreneur who co-founded Intel Corporation, one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies. He is best known for his observation, known as “Moore’s Law,” that the number of transistors on a microchip doubles approximately every two years, leading to exponential growth in computing power.
