Murphy Administration Continues War Against Black and Latino Educational Options

Newark NJ, Statement from Harry Lee, President & CEO, New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association on Acting Commissioner of Education’s Decision to Close Newark’s University Heights Charter School With Two Weeks Left In School :

“On June 1, the families of nearly 700 students learned that their school, University Heights Charter School (UCHS), a pre-K-8 public charter school in Newark, will close in two weeks. As a result of this unjustifiably late notification by the Acting Commissioner of Education, families are left in a lurch and are frantically scrambling to find an alternative school for their children for the summer and fall. Since 2006, UCHS has served the Newark community with support from Bethany Baptist Church, one of the city’s largest and oldest Black churches. UCHS was set to deliver a robust summer enrichment program starting on July 6. Due to this closure decision, parents are left to fend for themselves with very little time. The lack of care, compassion, and planning for such a high-stakes decision that impacts so many low-income families is unconscionable.

Center For Education Reform Blasts Murphy Administration Charter School Failures

Trenton NJ, once again the Murphy administration called out for disadvantaging working families and low income parents.  Center For Education Reform drops New Jersey from C to D . According to CER the Garden State’s political leadership needs to be badly weeded. The Murphy Administration has been arbitrarily rejecting expansion of successful charter schools with waiting lists as well as the opening of new schools to serve more students. While New Jersey has always been strong in having higher than average teacher standards, today’s leaders seem to be stuck in a great big pothole on the NJ Turnpike, unable to grasp that parents need more exits.

The Wild Duck Pond Restoration in Ridgewood

0 1

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, started in 2021 with a $1.7 million budget the Wild Duck Pond project is a restoration which will restore both the ecological function and enhance the public use of the existing Wild Duck Pond Area. Funding for the restoration project comes from the Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund and a grant from NJ Green Acres. The man-made waterbody constructed in the 1900’s for ice production and adapted by the Parks Commission in the early 1950’s as part of the new Saddle River County Park, has ceased to function as designed: to divert water from the Saddle River down a conveyance channel and through the pond back to the Saddle River. As the Saddle River’s elevation has decreased and the pond’s clay liner deteriorates, the pond and channel needed vital reconstruction to restore the health of the pond’s ecosystem.
